1) Have a lot of the typos from the Japanese version been fixed?
2) Are there any harmful effects that playing a US game on my UK DS might have?

2) No there is not. I have an Euro DS too, and I have played imported games with it. There has been no difficulties with Japanese, American or UK versions of game cartridges.

As for typos, a good amount have been fixed. Roughly... 85%? They did leave one or two in though, and even added one, but there are significantly fewer typos in the US version than the Japanese.
