Is Godot's name supposed to symbolize anything regarding the story of Ace Attorney 3? I'm aware that it's taken from the famous play, Waiting for Godot which is about some men who wait for a man named Godot who never arrives, but does his name have any deeper meaning than that? It must have been really important to the plot, considering his name was kept as Godot in every single version of the game.

Well, to be waiting for Godot means you're waiting around for something/someone that will never happen. It's pretty easy to tie that into the plot of T&T.

That and
Spoiler:
DieGO ArmanDO.

But
Spoiler:
The origin of Diego Armando would have to be based on Godot, because Godot was Godot in the Japanese version too, but his real name is Kaminogi Souryuu which has no relation to "Godot". It shows how Godot himself might have come up with the name, but the creators certainly thought of it in reverse.

All that can really be said is that it's based off of the play. If anyone here has ever read it, perhaps they can give some details on the relation...
Well, I plan to read it as soon as I get some issues with my library card straightened out. :godot: Perhaps I can report back then.

Moot point. His original name was Kaminogi Souryuu, and that has nothing to do with the name Godot. The relationship was drawn by the english translators to make the names related.

Well, occasionally he pauses before speaking, so you have to wait on him in that way, I suppose... Plus Luke makes a remark about people waiting around for him too.

That and...
Spoiler: 3-5
You have to "wait" for him for the first day of the trial. 'Course, Edgey would've called Fanzy anyway, but it's still interesting to think about...

Godot is desctibed as a mysterious man whose name and identity are unknown. This is akin to the Godot of the play Waiting for Godot. The Godot of the play never appears, and is a complete mystery to the characters Estragon and Vladimir, who are waiting for him. They spend the entire play waiting for Godot, and he never shows up. I assume the mysterious identity of Godot in T&T is a reference to the Godot of the play.

What was weird is that I played T&T before I watched the play. I half-expected Godot's theme to play as it started.

But basically, I think Gyakuten Phoenix is right. In the play neither of the main characters have met him (or indeed ever do), and in T&T Godot's identity is a complete mystery until the last two cases.
Strange source material for a Japanese game, though.

I think it also has a lot to do with

Spoiler: 3-5
how Godot explains that when he woke up from his coma "no one was waiting for me".

It pretty much became the driving force behind all of his actions, as it affected him deeply. It probably had to do with his name choice as well, though as a twist on the original meaning.

Because it sounds like robot and he has that robot-esque visor?

I know the T is silent but I like "Godot" better that "Godo".

Actually, it's from the play 'Waiting for Godot', but that's NOT another explanation, according to Balrog.

Adding Coffee Addict onto the end just to get a "t" is a stretch.

They make sense because the translators forced it to make sense. Godot's original name was, as I stated before in this very thread, Kaminogi Souryuu, which has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the name Godot.
