I actually think that 3-1 was
very much about Diego. Even though Mia asked Grossberg to let her take the case in the first place because she noticed that Hawthorne was somehow involved, it's pretty clear to me that she intended to nail her for Diego's poisoning, too, from the get-go. She brings the newspaper clipping of the incident with her to court (basically the only real evidence available to her relating to it) and spends a big chunk of the trial trying to make a connection. She probably needed it to prove Phoenix's innocence, sure, but she couldn't have known that from the beginning, given the cases in question, and the fact of the matter stands that she was
completely and utterly convinced that Phoenix's case and Diego's poisoning were connected in some way, shape, or form without... any real evidence to go by. To an outsider looking in, the two cases are completely unrelated, save for Hawthorne. Add to it that she says to Grossberg sometime after showing the newspaper clipping "I need to finish this myself," and I think it's safe to say that Diego was a pretty powerful motivator for her. There's also Grossberg's "boyfriend" comment if you want to count that.
In the present timeline, I'm going to have to agree with what was said before that Mia is a pretty closed person in general. She does a huge personality 180 from 3-4 to present, and since all the times she actually comes in contact with Godot, they're in
court, I really can't see her dragging personal issues to the forefront too much. But I can say that the way she talks to Godot is an indicator in and of itself, despite how shortlived it is. The only time she really talks to him is when she's
asking if it's all right for Phoenix to bring out the truth of 3-5, and, well, given how justice-driven Mia seems to be and how professional she is in court, that line seemed really emotionally-charged, especially coming from her. There's even an argument that can be made for that last conversation she has with Phoenix, but it's sticky and probably long-winded, so I won't go into it unless someone really wants me to.
Anyway, I could go on about this for a while, but yeah. I personally think Mia is a really,
really complex character, and it's kind of hard to pin down her motivations for much of anything. But from what I took from 3-4, 3-1, and the way she acts in 3-5, I don't think it's a stretch at all to say the feelings were mutual.
