Shiryuu Rou's English name is confirmed as Shi-Long Lang. Why this name? Read on:
osaka_dahlia wrote:

Capcom just changed his Japanese kanji name into its counterpart Chinese reading.

Kanji - Japanese On reading - Chinese reading (in Ping-Ying)

狼 - Rou - Lang
士 - Shi - Shi
龍 - Ryu - Long

It makes sense considering where he's from and how he acts in the Japanese version (He uses a lot of Chinese words and Chinese mannerisms in the Japanese version. I often wondered why they didn't just make him Chinese instead of that fake country Seihou XD ).
Plus, even the Japanese name is very "Chinese" in that all of the Japanese readings for the kanji arrrrrr "On" readings, not "Kun".
So yeah, I don't get why people arrrrrr upset... Chinese people have Chinese names...
Maybe people need to know more about the character first before bashing his name.

And on to the names people don't have problems with:

Zinc White II's last name is Leblanc (obviously to prevent players from assuming he's related to Redd)

Ichiru Konomichi's last name is apparently Teneiro.

There's also something about Kay:
Spoiler: Spoilers?
It mentions her 'predecessor, the great thief Yatagarasu'.

Spoiler: Finally got my scanner working

Seconded.

Well, Rou's English name aside, I am very much looking forward to AAI being in November's NP. Can't wait to get it!

Is this issue out now? It took me a long time to find the June issue with AAI info.

Shiryuu Rou = kickass name

Shi-Long Lang = WHAT THE FUCK.

This is basically all I can think of for his name:

Starts with the same first syllable (Shi)

"Ryuu" and "Rou" are KIND of similar (Ri-u and Ro-u) and "Long" and "Lang" are similar.

But I haven't played the game yet, so I have no idea HOW the FUCK that could ever be used.

That name is horrible. It's rascist as well.
Just stick with Rou, Capcom. It sounds better.

Can we start a petition or something to change it back?

Meanwhile, the other names sound interesting, LeBlanc sounds French, but also European which fits with him being Borginian and all.
I won't be surprised if he starts saying "How you doin'?". *shot*

Interesting. I don't get why everyone is in an uproar over his name.
Capcom just changed his Japanese kanji name into its counterpart Chinese reading.

Maybe people need to know more about the character first before bashing his name.

Hmm, yeah, I guess so. Plus, it keeps with the Borginian thing of fake French-sounding names like LeTouse and Lamiroir.

Ha ha, sounds like De Niro, but like Femme Fatale said, it's probably a play on her Japanese name.

It's pretty logical, but I kind of agree that Capcom should have put more thought into this. Oh well, they still have half a year left in production.

Yeah, I don't think it sounds all that great, but I'm sure I'll get used to it too. I probably just got attached to "Rou", you know?
If we're lucky, maybe they'll just use his last name. I can live with "Lang".

Sticking osaka's explantion in the first post since some folks tend to not read the whole thread.

I don't really have a problem with the name myself. I thought 'Wocky Kitaki' was a lot worse. :yuusaku:

Why put "more thought" into perfectly reasonable logic? He's from a fake "almost China." So they gave him a Chinese reading of his canon name. Plenty of us were already hoping he would get a Chinese name.

It kind of reminds me of Dynasty Warriors. In the English version all the characters are referred to by their Chinese names, but in the Japanese version they're referred to by the Japanese readings for their names.

osaka_dahlia I guess that explains what I found of it. (The same Shi and how Ryu/Rou and Long/Lang sound similar)

Even so it is still a horrible name. If they were going to keep it asian, they could have just stayed with Shiryuu Rou. sob. Now when people say "What's your favourite character?" I'll be like "Shi-long" and I will look ridiculous. THANKS CAPCOM.

I was hoping he'd be all cool and be all "YO, EDGEWORTH, YOU SUCK" but now when he says it there will be "Shi-Long Lang" on his name tag and I will be laughing at him instead.

Now there will be a bunch of jokes about if you say his name fast it will sound like "Shlong" and people will make fun of him and say "what a shlong he has ;)" and stupid things like that and he will become the equivalent of how Daryan is "penis-head" instead of "that cool jerk" (of course, that one wasn't localisation's fault haha)

Whatever, I guess I'll have to deal with it. I don't mind the fact it's chinese, but I'd prefer a better sounding one that I wouldn't keep reading in my head as "shlong wang" or something.

The "Shlong Wang" jokes will come, I assure you.

Hey... how did you get a November magazine even before October, FD?
I'm still hoping for a September Fools. His name doesn't fit him at all, it has no attractive, and it's ridiculous. Zinc and Ichiru's last names aren't half bad, tho.

...How is this name racist? It's not at all a slur against Chinese.

I understand a lot of people automatically react badly to changes from originals (read through some of the reactions to "Odoroki Housuke" being localized to "Apollo Justice," for example, when news of Apollo's english name was first released) but.. if his japanese name was meant to be chinese like, and he uses chinese mannerisms and words...

You know what they say, if it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, then... :|

Well I never knew he was chinese so.... :lana:

And I'm chinese and I've still never heard of a guy name "Shi-Long Lang" or whatever...

According to the info that's been re-posted in the topic, he comes from a made-up country and imitates a lot of chinese mannerisms, that's all.

Yeah, it's not ACTUALLY a chinese name--the way it's pronounced in the original Japanese differs from normal and is supposed to be chinese-like. To reflect that, Capcom romanized his name differently to also look more chinese. It's the same as "Garyuu Kirihito" becoming "Kristoph Gavin"--the word "Kirihito" loses the implied connection to "hitokiri" or "murderer" in translation when it was switched to the more german-sounding "Kristoph," probably to match Klavier's naming.

WOW MAN I've been tl;dring all over this topic
