Your post count is still viewable in your profile. They're not being restorted throughout the forum itself because too many people have admitted to spamming just to get their numbers up. It's stupid and it doesn't help the spamming problem that already exists.

It pleases me that post counts are no longer viewable but if that's so then does it make much sense to have a ranking system? A user's rank is basically a sign of how many posts they have.

You would think that, but Ranks are a vague measure of how manys posts you have. And even then, do you know how many you need to go up? Much less how many posts each marker tells you? That's also why I left the Post rate up. It's a vague marker, that unlike Post count, also goes down.

We'll see how far we go with this. If it still reeks of stupidity I may go farther. But I think I've done enough damage.

I dunno, I'm sitting on the fence a bit here. I like how more laid-back people would be without post counts (as in 'gotta make it to 200!'), but I also enjoy seeing how many posts my friends and new users have.

Maybe that's just me though. :/

I think we should have the post count of everyone publicly viewable, because it can be useful information to see whether someone is an experienced user on the forum or not, it just shouldn't be in such a prominent place (i.e., not underneath your avatar). Off-topic posting just to increase one's post count and ranking is a huge problem on many forums, so we'd better not promote it.

Except post count doesn't prove anything about how "experienced" a user you are. You could have a million posts and still be a terrible poster.
