From the link:
Quote:
・Athena’s last name is spelled “Cykes” with a “C” for two main reasons: 1) the more common spelling “Sykes” is too similar to Ema Skye’s last name and 2) the crescent shape of the letter C ties into her overall character design – from the crescent moon motif in the Mood Matrix icon and on her glove to the earring she likes to play with when she’s thinking.

From the eshop demo:

More courtroom drama as Apollo Justice and new Associate Attorney and psychoanalysis expert Athena Sykes join Phoenix at the Wright Anything Agency.

It kinda would've made a bit more sense if her last name was Sykes instead of Cykes, since, you know, she specializes in psychology.

Interesting read about Blackquill. I figured he was a tough challenge for the localization team because, like Lang his overall design caters so much to people understanding of Japanese culture. I think their work on making him Victorian-english is gonna pay off or at least seem ridiculous in a good way. Can't wait to play it.
...Although, maybe I'd prefer if the prosecutor for the next game's gonna be a little more down-to-earth. I miss prosecutors who are just prosecutors like Edgeworth, Payne and Manfred... probably Franziska too.

I thought "Blackquill" was just a play on the real world surname Blackwell and quill, a feather. (Like Taka's feather.)

I thought it was 'Blackquill' because of, like you said, the feather/bird theme and the fact that he wears black clothing.
