Capcom released a press release for the third quarter. When it mentions digital releases, it referenced the European and American markets.

Quote:
b. Furthermore, projected sales were basically achieved for not only "Dead Rising 3" (for Xbox One) that has been geared toward the European and North American markets, "Resident Evil Revelations" (for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC), but also "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies" (for Nintendo 3DS).

While this isn't the sales info we want to hear, this is a great sign.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's referring to Western sales of DD. The entire report's a little wonky with the translation, so here's the original Japanese:

Quote:

Translation wrote:
2) Furthermore, in addition to titles geared towards the Western market like Dead Rising 3 and Resident Evil: Revelations, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies also met sales expectations.

...Still a little awkward (and if I've mistranslated anything, please let me know!), but the point is that the group of titles geared towards the West includes DR3 and RER, but not DD, though DD also met sales expectations. The issue is that they don't specify if these are global or Western sales expectations.
Hi! I've largely stepped back from C-R due to life stuff. Please contact one of the other staff members for help!

I wonder if we'll ever find out exactly how well DD did.

I would imagine it would have to have done better than AAI, based on the time it spent on the "best sellers" list, the media exposure it got, and the money saved by the digital only release. But whether it did as well as the original or AJ is something else.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Yeah, but the whole report is about how well their titles did world wide. So why would they talk about the world wide sales of every title but Ace Attorney?

Regardless I hope it warrants the 'sequels-to-be' coming stateside too (hopefully we won't be seeing another AAI2 situation happen anymore).

At this point I would be surprised if we didn't get the next GS game, unless somehow all the hype and huge outpouring of love over GS5 that was seen somehow seemed bigger than it was. I would think we would probably get GK3 as well, although that one might be a little less likely.

Regarding this sales info, it is worded a bit vaguely, but if I'm not mistaken Capcom already discussed DD's Japanese sales a while back, so I'm thinking this might be talking about overseas sales.

The one problem with the wording is that it's worded almost exactly the way as the wording of the Japanese sales discussion.

Well, in light of today's news regarding a new AA, this is going to be important. My guess, though, is that we won't hear about whether we'll get the game until Capcom officially announces it; I doubt they'll announce localization right after the product announcement like they did last time.

I just wish Capcom USA or someone in the company would let us know roughly how it did! It would be terrible to get all excited for the new AA and then have it not come to the west! Based on what I've seen regarding DD's popularity and on PLvsAA's arrival soon, though, I'm still pretty optimistic we'll get it, especially if its the official GS6 and not a spin-off.

Well, if that is the case: if the fail of localizing AAI2 taught us anything, it is that there are dedicated fan who will localize it if Capcom USA fails to do so.

It's a ton easier to hack the DS and manipulate its sprites. Doing the same process for 3DS is all but impossible.

Well bear in mind there is a team localising DD to the DS so people can play it in other languages.

With brand new sprites and remade music? If it took the fan made AAI2 this long just for cases 1 and 2, by the time that's done GS7 would probably be out in Japan.

I think a fan-translated 3DS game might be possible at some point in the future, maybe when its successor is out and the 3DS can be hacked/emulated more easily. It would still be a HUGE undertaking though.

Still, though, I'm optimistic. I think we'll definitely get the GS123 Phoenix Selection, I think we'll probably get GS6, and I think there's a big possibility we'll get this new Takumi game. From the evidence I've seen (public interest, eShop status, possibly the article being discussed here) I can't imagine DD did badly.

What changed your mind about sales? You used to be really pessimistic about that.

The huge support I saw when DD launched. I really expected it to get minimal coverage and just be a note on the last page of the eShop. Instead, it was reviewed very highly by all of the high-profile gaming sites, it spent like a month on the eshop best-seller list, it was picked as one of Club Nintendo's best games of the year, etc. All the attention seems to indicate a lot of people bought it. I think that coupled with the digital release cutting costs means it had to be pretty profitable for Capcom.

And it was still on the frontpage of the EU eshop as of yesterday.

In the UK eShop, it's No. 15 all time best selling! (When I looked last... It was 18/19th at Christmas)
