dang, it's been a while since I last have been on here. Ok, so I decided to use Xdelta for applying the patch to the Japanese text. Apparently, there's this "output file" option. What to do select for that in XdeltaUI? Should I make a new folder/file or something? Also, pardon me for not understanding too much ROM tech details, so I hope someone can provide an understandable explanation for a rookie like me, thank you

Just use the ... button to specify a folder and name the file something like "AAI2 English Case 1-2 Beta.nds"

You're specifying what you want to name the final patched file (which is the output of the patching process) and where to put it. Just like a save file prompt.

So in other words, it's like "renaming" the original file during the process, right?

No. Think of it as the "Save as..." function in a program like Microsoft Word. A new file is created with the modifications from the patch, and that is the ROM you use to play the game in English. The original remains untouched.

I tried all I could, but I keep on getting this message saying "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately. The system cannot find the file specified."

Just follow the directions someone posted earlier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uhyXAqAfiE

It uses BEAT instead of Xdelta, but the outcome is the same.

I'll give it BEAT a try once again (I tried using BEAT only to get the same exact message like my incident with Xdelta)

The patched ROM should be about 67 MB. If it isn't that big, you must have messed up the patching process. Are you sure you extracted the original ROM and patch from their .zip or .rar archives? Also, double check to make sure you followed all of the instructions in that video I linked to.

Then make sure your emulator is up to date. Desmume should work fine, though I only tested it on 0.9.7 (not the latest version) since I'm not using an emulator. The latest version has some sort of performance problem with default settings (look in this thread for information on how to fix that) but it'll definitely run. Apparently No$GBA without No$Zoomer has problems though.

The usual error happens because of the patch you're using. You should make sure that you download the proper patch program and the patch that works with the program.
e.g: Install Xdelta then install the patch that has "Xdelta" in its name.
Or
Install BEAT then install the patch that has "BEAT" in its name.

When I run DeSmuME, I make the screen about as big as my 3DS XL screen. But it looks a little pixelated (obviously), so I go into the settings and turn on "filter" and it looks great, exactly how it would look on an XL DS/3DS. My only issue (and its a slight slight one) is that it doesn't stay on when I close the program, so everytime I boot up the game I need to turn it on again. Is there a way to have filer set on by default?

I used BEAT, applied the correct patch, ROM is still at 67 MB, and Desume still shows a white screen. However, during the patching process, a message saying "Patch application failed!" appeared before the new ROM was created.

There you have it. Do you use a clean rom and unzip it (when necessary)?

I got the original Japanese ROM from a website, but it could've been tampered with. Maybe I should download the ROM from a different, reliable source?

I'll quote part of my earlier post. A file hash basically generates a hard to replicate value based on the contents of the file. Because it is hard to replicate, if two files have the same hash, their contents are likely identical. I used the following program for determining the md5 hash: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Fil ... -MD5.shtml

To people who are having problems patching their ROMs: make sure you have a CLEAN version of the ROM. A ROM that has had the Borginian AP patch applied (so the text doesn't appear to be Borginian when you play it in some cases) will NOT work.

The ROM I used has the following md5 hash:

2D02FFE1F6CC97FB291E28F350877938

Search for an md5 hasher to check to see if your ROM is clean.

Also, here is the md5 of that ROM after I patched it with the xDelta version (hopefully should be the same when patched with Beat):

So in theory every one who patches the file will get the same hash, correct? Or would it depend on the ROM and the way it was patched?

Everyone who properly patches the proper original ROM will end up with the same hash. At least, they will with XDelta. The Beat patch should also produce the same output, but I haven't verified that. It wouldn't make sense for it to produce different output though.

The patch basically holds all the differences between the original ROM and the modified ROM that Auryn compiled. If even a little bit of the input ROM is wrong when patching (especially if there's a bit of extra padding at the beginning for some reason), the resulting ROM will likely fail to work, because the output won't be the same as what's intended.

I was trying to get some progress on flashcards tonight but sadly I didn't get anything to work.
I have at the moment 6 different flashcards in my hands with only 3 results:
- DSTWO: working fine
- Acekard2i: working fine
- R4 SDHC Dual Core 2013: working fine
- R4 Original with original FW: White screens
- R4 Clone with very old Wood: Error message in Japanese/Gibberish (See below)
- R4i 1.4 (r4-v.com) with FW 3.0: Crash while loading [error -4]

So at the moment i am not able to check out the AP protection with the borgian.

What I discovered is that there is some text that i believe we never found in the game :P
If you get this screen:

Image

I am sad to tell you that we will never have any fix for you.
This is one of the "AP" that Nintendo introduced (if my memory is not wrong) with the first Mario & Luigi game (the RPG) that had a savegame bigger than 512KB.
Most cards at the time had 512 as default and that was the max size the flashcards usually supported. So that is not a problem with our patch but with your card. See if you have an update to your flashcard firmware or if you can install alternative firmwares on your cards (like wood firmware).

For the curios between you, the original text is this:

Image

If my japanese isn't too bad it should say something like "Error writing or creating savegame" (please somebody make a correct translation).

Hey everyone. I just downloaded this last night, and was so excited I shotgunned the two cases within 24 hours (I did not expect them both to be as long as they were). Over the past few months, I would check in the translation progress every now and again, and I honestly had my doubts as to whether it would ever be released, but I am so glad it was. The gameplay was smooth 90% of the time, and the translation/localization so good I forgot I was playing an unofficial translation. I wish I could have been more involved, but congratulations to the team.

Now that the actual hacking has been done, what's next is the translation, localization and text insertion for the next three cases. Based on the team's experiences so far, how long do they think it will take for that to happen?

Additionally, I saved at the end of Case 2 like the text recommended, so now I have save data for Case 3. Will future patches (whether they are progressive or not) maintain that save data, so I can repatch the ROM that has my existing file and start Case 3?

Hello to all, I want to ask 2 questions about this cool translation:
1) Why, by playing with desmume in some moments is possible to skip text even if you play that case for the 1st time?
2)Why in some moments the colours are inverted, like they are in logic or when psycho-locks appears? Is this a glitch or, just the emulator?

1: Well, I think skipping text is a glitch.
2: I believe that the inverted screen is basically a slight error.

I've played it on my acekard ds and I love it. Works like a dream and it plays just like an Ace Attorney game! Great work guys and girls! :hotti:

I love everything about it and I hope you continue to keep up the brilliance you've set and I look forward to see what you give us in the future. :will:

Sorry for answering a bit late (did not have internet connection for the last couple of weeks :sadshoe: ) and

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this great release. I've only managed to finish to first case - which was unexpectedly long - but so far it really felt like playing AA in terms of language and all. Really an outstanding work you did there!

For the interested: I'm playing on m3dssimply with Wood (1.6.2 I think) and it works perfectly. I needed to update the fw first as the card was still running on moonshell which ended up in a white screen and nothing else.
Oldbag: Shush! I'm talking to my dear Edgey-Wedgey right now! Don't interrupt us, gramps!
Judge: Yes, madam.
Edgeworth: No no no, please, by all means interrupt her! Please!
