Here’s our first look at Ryuunosuke’s assistant, Mikotoba Susato! As Ash mentioned, she’s a judicial assistant; according to Takumi, she also loves foreign mystery novels and is a forward-thinking dreamer.

Hmm... is it just me, or does it seem that she might actually be a bit older than our new protagonist? She just seems too refined and serious to be a teenage sidekick.

That's my understanding.

Well it does take place during the Meiji Era so I would assume she would have to be more refined and serious especially if the game is gonna have more of a darker look than the previous games.

I can see that, but it's not like they're all going to be played perfectly straight to the way they would be in reality. It's still Gyakuten Saiban at the end of the day.

True but if he is gonna go with a darker approach to the series then it would make sense she would be more serious and more refined than wright's previous assistants.

I feel as if the personalities will be a bit reversed this time around, she looks like the serious type, and from what the quote we have for Ryu, i see it fitting a goofball protagonist.
...I get the feeling i'm gonna like this girl.

Now she just doesn't need to be a teenager and a carbon copy of Maya and we're all set.

Also, if Ryuunosuke's in the military, shouldn't he really be the more serious one? I just hope we'll get to know a little more about the personalities soon. Maybe Lil' Ryu is going to end up being the final culprit after he uses that sword a little too carelessly, gets charged with murder and is executed or whatever - just before sharing a passionate night with the new assistant, who then flees to America. I'm a genius!

Who drew it?

In any case, hoso_boso just carried the hype for me. I'm hoping the new gameplay element involves using that sword. Kojima is working on this game. I demand an action gameplay sequence where we let fly a barrage of attacks.

I'm with the members that suggested this might be Takumi's take on finally rebooting the series and at the same time pleasing the Capcom execs. I presume we will see the ancestors of a couple of more characters (three, counting Phoenix). Other than that, the entire cast should be entirely new. Here are some thoughts I have:

- Nick's mentor is a forefather of Edgeworth's
- Not seeing it but would be kind of ironic if the von Karma lineage actually started as a "clan" of defense attorneys and Manfred was the one to break that tradition.
- Not seeing this one either, but if Miles' ancestor isn't Wright's mentor, he could be his assistant (or both: the mentor has a son which is Feenie's assistant and both are related to Edgey).
- The theme of this game could either be spirit channeling or something to do with demons.

That would actually not be a reboot. That would mean that the entire continuity is disregarded resetting the characters back to the beginning. This could easily be a prequel in the existing universe since I don't see how a game set a least 100 years before the main series could contradict the timeline short of an asteroid hits Japan destroying the entire country.

A few more details:

-Takumi doesn't think of this as a spinoff or a gaiden game, but rather a full entry in the series.
-They'll be adding new systems to the investigation and court phases.
-They'll release screenshots next time they show off the game, whenever that might be.

That would support that it is not a reboot since the fact that he considers it as a full entry strongly implies that the game is set in the existing universe.

*sigh* Why...? Why can't we have a 20+ woman following us around? I was so happy when I had Franziska as my assistant in GK for two cases - okay, one she was 13, but still. Or give us a male assistant. Unless they think it's impossible to have a male hero and a same-sex assistant.

C-A

Didn't GK2-3 have a male assistant?

And actually about the evolving thing, it actually seems that his work seems to downgrade as the Ace Attorney series went foward. They all were great, but JFA and T&T didn't capture the essence that the first game did. Then after that was of course, AJ. But then he created Ghost Trick which was a masterpiece, seriously. I think the only reason why his work in the series wasn't as good as the first one was because he didn't really want to do the other ones, not because he didn't have good ideas. AA was supposed to be the only game, but it caught on and Capcom was all "Hey, let's make a trilogy!" and Takumi was like "Well... OK."

...Literally half of the crime plots in the first game, were, like, the worst crime plots ever. It was literally just "The person came and killed them a few minutes before/after defendant arrived/left the scene and killed them in exactly same manner defendant was accused of doing."

How can you look up to the first game, dude...

That... Makes me worried. A lot. I do not look up to Takumi as most people here do, and him interfering with the series worries me more than anything...

I imagine so.

Though I'd relax a little Neavarex, I presume you enjoyed some of the previous games to an extent. Another should be fine be it Takumi or the AAI team.

Perhaps I'm not picky but for a niche franchise like ours I'm happy for anything.

I'm actually happy the way Takumi want's to take the series because I actually wanna see the AA series take a more darker approach to it.

Actually, I did enjoy the last two (three, if we count 1-5) chapters of the first game as well as the two following games, so it's not like I think he's a bad writer. It's just his last in-series AA game that left me with a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak ^^;

Looking like this game shows promise. The only thing is that with such rich Japanese culture there will be trouble localizing the game; hoping there will be an English version at all.

Maybe they can finally come out and say we were in Japan all along. :edgey:
Mr. Edgeworth, do you realize if we played by the rules, we'd be in court right now?

Hmm, so this is Takumi's new project. Certainly intriguing, to say the least, and I am curious to see more of the setting to see how Japanese or Western it is. Considering Takumi's comments on how he considers this a full entry to the series, I'll consider this game to be a prequel.

Here's just the trailer music for those who, like me, can't get enough of it.

What do you think it is? Objection, Pursuit, or something new altogether? Definitely sounds inspired by Layton. Maybe it's being composed by the PLvsAA composer, Yasumasa Kitagawa? Or hell, maybe even Tomohito Nishiura himself is doing it! That would blow my mind.

I seriously have to be careful not to misfire, ack... Forgive me for coming off as spammy.

EDIT: Also, I just noticed in the second page... is that dog in the bottom-right Missile? If so, I love that Takumi still finds a way to insert his dog into his games no matter what.

This reminds me: Takumi Shuu is a big fan of mystery writer Awasaka Tsumao and his A Aiichirou series (亜愛一郎), you can find all kind of references in GS. After writing the main A Aiichirou series, Awasaka also wrote a short story collection about Aiichirou's forefather A Tomoichirou, (亜智一郎), also an amateur detective. Coincidence?

EDIT: Also, I just noticed in the second page... is that dog in the bottom-right Missile? If so, I love that Takumi still finds a way to insert his dog into his games no matter what.

Don't be ridiculous. It's Missile's forefather, Gatling. >:)

I would say it's not, but at the same time, it's not really a surprise. :3

But thinking about it, there should be a guy with 亜 in his surname in this game. There's always one in a GS game.
