Anyway, Boss Velotix is right. If we want to be heard, we need to be vocal, but not in a complaining, "woe is me, Capcom sucks" kind of way. I'm all aboard for petition. The key, I suppose, is organization. How many members does Court-Records have?

Would a letter writing campaign be more effective than a petition? Of course, we would have to get someone to draft a letter, post it here, provide the address to mail it to, and the rest would be left up to the forum member to mail to Capcom.

Its not like they would have to put this merchandise in every store in America. They could just sell it from their own online store or one of the major online retailers (Amazon or Barns and Noble).

We love GS as much as the Japanese fans, I think we would appreciate some merchandise as much as they do.

I can't stay quiet anymore, so her goes.

When I first read about the opera (which was just a moment ago, since I couldn't get to my computer earlier) I was a little dissapointed about it (and I still am, a little). But then I started to think. Now it actually sounds an interesting idea and I'd love to see it, but I guess the chances are slim. I just hope they will release a DVD.

I agree with that and that's why I understand why some people get angry. Since I live in Europe, I'm used to the fact that we don't get even as much as America does. That annoys me, but still, I wouldn't get angry with Capcom if they make something only for Japan.

I agree with others. Rather than just complain here, we should all tell Capcom that we, too, want to see that opera (and everything else). Hopefully they'll hear us if we keep enough noise.

Awe, come on guys, where's your sense of adventure? Yes an Opera is Random, but lets at least give them a shadow of the doubt first.

Please tell me that the time-zone difference between us and Japan is so great that it's still April first there... ^_^;

Oh, I'm sure this will probably still be immensely fun to watch (even if it turns out there's a lot of humor of the unintentional sort), but I admit that this wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for. Maybe if there's enough of a popular response, we'll still get some kind of live action or anime television show. By the way, the headline at the top of the page at the Dengeki link included the following sentence: "テーマはラブロマンス!?" That would be, "The theme is love romance!?", right? Is that a reference to the opera? (Sorry if someone has already brought this up.)

But hell, I watch Sailor Moon musicals. I don't see why I wouldn't to enjoy a GyaSai Opera. The use of the name "Pheonix" instead of "Naruhodou" weirds me out a little, plus an all-female cast...

The problem here, at least personally talking, is not that it's a female only group. The problem, as other people has already quoted, is that the Opera thing has a very narrow way of expanding and coming to other places, like Spain, my country. Personally, I think it's a bad move coming for Capcom. I don't say that they must know what we, the fans, are thinking, and I'm sure that they have thought it very well before doing anything but, as other products in other times, they have centered the project in the people of Japan. I think a little research would have discovered a more appealing project for more fans.

PD: If I were living in Japan, I would try to go to see it.

PD2: I second the motion of making a e-mail or something like that to the people of Capcom making our little wishes and preferences for futures GS related stuff.

Now you see, there's a difference between the opera we know of to the opera in particular this seems to become.

I mean there's a difference between the gritty, rock-edge RENT to the Rose of Versailles opera made in Japan.

But yes this does in fact seem interesting Though, pretty awkward with the female troupe. (I mean things like the Sailor Moon musicals or Utena are totally different as they are flamboyant as is, why GyakuSai is pretty western and....masculine)

Yes, but we've been promised a big announcement, we patiently wait, and then get a Japanese only female only Phoenix Wright opera. Cool for the Japanese, I guess, but over here in Europe and America we pretty much had no real Ace Attorney news for a year. No release dates on Edgeworth game, or even the new Apollo Justice we're waiting for.

It's not that the musical is necessarily a bad thing, but we were all hoping for something else.

Well, we did just get some new information about the new Edgeworth game, just last week. We didn't get an American or European release date, but we did get an estimate (Oct. 2009), which is something.

Oh, and there's no problem with being disappointed in something. It's the whining that's an issue.

As for this musical, nothing you say or do is going to make it any more or less profitable for Capcom, which is part and parcel of the reasons that they market more to the Japanese audience.

you are misinterpreting what i said. i never made any mention of "i give capcom money, so they should give me what i want" - i meant more that the games are selling tremendously well in the western world, and capcom should at least give us more than what we are getting. more so that capcom should realize that it will sell well, not just that we have given them lots of money.

anyway - i see everyones' points, and agree to an extent, but stand by my original statement.

I'm not sure about how I feel about this. If it was a normal musical, it would be okay. An all-female cast, it might be strange, but still has a chance of being good. I just wish it were in English! I know we will probably never get to see it. If they could modify it to maybe tour the United States and Europe, that would be great. But, in all likelihood, they will not. We should demand more! I'm all for petitions and anything else to support our cause.

I have no trouble normally with actresses portraying male roles, but I just don't feel that a female-only opera really fits the feel of the GS series, and of course it won't fly with Western audiences. I hope this production turns out well, but I also hope that Capcom is working on other projects for a wider audience.

Uh, what? I don't see how that has any relevance to anything...I was just stating my opinion that I don't think that Phoenix Wright can be pulled off accurately with only females, because there's something about it that doesn't seem right. Research has nothing to do with this. I wasn't assuming anything.

I wasn't pulling the sexist card. I just thought that you should research the Takarazuka Revue if you haven't already. If you knew anything about the Revue, then you would know that they have been doing top-notch performances with all-female casts for decades. They definitely know what they're doing, and that includes the art of convincingly playing male characters (if you would call that an "art").

It has nothing to do with grrrrrl power and everything to do with professionalism.

Interesting. I wonder which characters they will use (it's hard to image a female Gant XD).

As for those expecting an animé, calm down. Does the series really need one? Yes, it would be cool but I'm happy with just the games but bringing a few GS items to the west would be nice.

Look on the bright side, there is GS5. Okay, there is no release date but there is a 98% chance this will get translated into English. I can't see why Capcom would not translate it for the English fans as the other PW Games are in English and are slightly popular.

a lot of Takarazuka Revue shows are on youtube. just look to check them out. They DO release their stuff sometimes

There's also all male groups out there who play female roles, and hell, look at monty python or kids in the hall. They're not opera groups, but it's the same thing you're arguing about. Except those were completely for the lulz

and you can definitely be female and be sexist. Most of the women at my work are and being the androgenous butch person I am, it ticks me off

A few things-

1. Guys, Takarazuka is AWESOME. They really spare no expense in their productions, full orchestras, great musical numbers, the works. Go and look up some of their productions on youtube if you want to see what they're all about.

And don't be so sure that Western fans will never get to see this. I for one will do whatever I can to get a glimpse of this when it happens.

2. Don't discount an anime yet. You're all acting like this is the last PW/GS project they're ever going to make. Seriously-- what is the LEAST likely thing we ever thought they'd do with PW? A musical. (Not really an opera. A musical.)

With odds like that, you really think an anime is out of the cards?

I'm interested to see Manfred, Gant, and Grossberg played by women.

They say its a love story, so whose to say it would be about Mia and Diego? I think its one of safer choices in the fandom. I don't think they announced which game the opera will be about, so anything can happen, right?

I don't recall the sexist card ever being pulled. Perhaps I missed something somewhere?

@(Witty Name Here)

I don't think anyone here thinks you're a sexist. It's just that those of us who are familiar with Takarazuka's work want those who are not so familiar to not underestimate them. Thus the request that those not in the know should familiarize themselves with them, either through Wikipedia or YouTube. It might put some of your minds at ease if you have some reservations about the project.

Then again, it might not. Not everyone likes theatre, let along the unique flavor that is Takarazuka brand theatre.

Well, it's a mixture of things. One, even though I'm a weeaboo I am about as far off the mark from an Eastern theater fan as can be, and that's where my Amerifag shines. Two, like I've said before, there's just something about an all female cast for something like Phoenix Wright that skeeves me out.

Skeeves you out, you say? I can understand that. Is it because of the fact that most of the male characters are fairly muscular, square jawed, and generally not-feminine-looking, or because of all the creepy female cosplayers that populate Yaoi-con?

Well, I guess I'd choose the former. I mean, there are feminine looking characters in PW, but none of them are major. I mean, with the photo of Tomu Ranju in that Phoenix outfit...I don't know, it just didn't seem right.

Some of the male characters are rather feminine looking though.

Hey, I resemble that remark. :sadshoe: (Going to Yaoi-con on Thursday!)

Although, I hope that I won't be a creepy Edgeworth. ^_^;;

You have to share pictures. Also, is it a requirement to cosplay as a male character at Yaoi-con? Or do some people dress as female characters too? Dumb question is dumb.

The more we talk about the opera, the more interested I become in it. I hope we can find out some more information about the story soon.

Well, I guess I'd choose the former. I mean, there are feminine looking characters in PW, but none of them are major. I mean, with the photo of Tomu Ranju in that Phoenix outfit...I don't know, it just didn't seem right.

Yeah, it seems kinda bishi-tastic... kinda shojo manga-esque. That kind of look appeals to a lot of people, it isn't the PW style.

Personally, I have three reasons why this doesn't bother me:

1) I don't and probably never will consider this musical to be "canon", so as far as I'm concerned, they can do whatever they want. To me, the musical will basically be a high-budget form of fanart (which is fine, because I like fanart).

2) As somebody who has been in theatre for a long time, I'm used to the concept of "suspending belief". Even if the characters look off, if the acting is good, I should be able to forget that fact as the play progresses.

3) The lulz. A short, petite Phoenix with heavy mascara is hilarious. Just think of what Edgeworth is gonna look like!

I will definitely share some pictures, for sure. :edgy: This is my first year going, but from what I've heard, anything goes. (Meaning guys dress as girls and girls dress as guys. But, guys dress as guys and girls dress as girls as well. ^_^) So no, it is not a requirement.

I'm definitely getting more and more interested in this whole opera/musical thing. :edgy: Especially since I might actually be living in Japan when it comes out and will be able to see it! Plus, I'm curious about the songs and story and such. And who is the romance going to be between? O_o
Thanks to .•°٭blinq٭°•. for the lovely sig. ♥

Haha. Maybe I'll come and visit you sometime; I could introduce you to my Japanese relatives. I've been meaning to visit them for a long time now, and this musical just might be the perfect excuse to finally go. If I'm not completely broke, that is.

As for the pairings, I personally am not too concerned. No matter what, it's gonna be instant pseudo-femslash. Although part of me is hoping for P/E. The fangirls would go nuts, and the yuri-fanboy's brains would explode.
