One person per case sounds like a good idea, too many translators working together on the same thing can just make it harder and more confused, but if it's per case then that's different.
We'd just need to agree before hand on anything that is repeated so that we don't translate it differently from one time to the next. of course I need to first play to see if that would be an issue, and it could all be checked as a whole in the end to make sure it's consistent.

I definitely think there should be at least a translator + editor for each team, and several proofreaders wouldn't hurt either. I just wasn't sure how many people we were working with here, since we need people who can help and are willing to help at the same time ;)

It's good to be at least two translators on it. Hopefully we will have enough people, but not too many (you know what they say, too many cooks in the kitchen ruin the dish).
Of course not everyone needs to be a cook to run a restaurant so there will definitely be room for a lot of people to help.

But yeah, it will go a lot faster if we work simultaneously on all cases. Then we could have every "team" just check the whole thing once it's done and point out any inconsistency they might notice, and we'll be good to go.

I'm still hoping people who know more than I do about programming can make something out of it, as playing it while reading a transcript wouldn't be practical at all. But when I see all the fan-games that have been made, I'm thinking it should be possible, I hope? Obviously not as easy as adding subtitles to a video file, but maybe doable. If anyone can clarify that point, that would be really great.

Oh, that sucks for you French guys.
(Makes things easier for me though - I won't have to import, the German translations are terrible.)

The only problem in doing something like a fangame, is that people may go and play the 'French unofficial version' without buying the original one. Of course, translating anything without the written agreement of the owner of the game is illegal, but providing a playable version of the game is much worse... since I don't think it's possible to change something directly in the cartridge.

But I totally agree with you: Playing the game while reading a transcript is far from being practical or fun... yet, for a start, it would be better than nothing at all for those who can't understand English. :phoenix: And I also agree with everything you've said (about the different teams, etc...).

I think we should create a blog or something, and start recruiting people for this job... :)

Yes, I was hoping we would be able to provide something that wouldn't be playable as is but that required you to extract your game first or something. So that people would still need to get the game separately... Even if they might end up getting a pirated copy of the game and add the subtitles or something, but it would really be our fault if they did.

Since I'm guessing the chapters are of increasing size, I volunteer for the last (and I'm guessing biggest) one, unless you has another idea of course. Since you had the translation idea first, I'm cool with following your lead :maya:

It's a good idea for the blog, but I wouldn't know where to start I have to admit. We should probably make it in French though I would say. If you know how to, I'll let you and take care of spreading the word :edgy:

Your help is welcome :)
Depending on what other help we can get, I guess we can put you down as either translating one case or correcting :)
Thanks for volunteering :jake:

Well, I'm not a professional translator either (even though I am studying to become one...), but your help would be very welcome, indeed :)
For now, we only have two translators... well, 2 persons in the team actually.
Avistew and myself, and we will both be translating. So tell me, which job do you prefer? Translator or translation quality checker?
Of course, if we haven't enough people to do one task, we may ask you one more, but frankly, we won't force you to do something you don't want to do.
It's an amateur project, and even though we aim for (near)-professional quality, we still want this project to be a fun and nice experience :phoenix:

By the way, you should check our blog. That's where we'll post most information about our project :)

Thanks :)
