Oh, you finally got your copy Arkillian? I think I remember reading about that in the TAOPW thread...

What else is there out at the moment? Have there been any copies of the GS manga that haven't been given out? Or what about the GK Artbook? Or you can check out this out. Never seen this before...

Yeah- I got mine the day before I got Ace Investigations, which came out on time :) I was disappointed that it didn't come with the concept art :/ I wanted to read about how they came up with the character concepts in english. I wish they didn't rape the english version of things. Why should we get less awesome stuff than the asian market does? T.T It's actually the concept stuff I wanted more than the official art :( It's still a VERY pretty art book though ^^

Hmm... I've been having thoughts about this since I heard of it. Not sure if I can finish an entry on time, though (because I'm super slow at drawing). DX

Regardless, I look forward to the first contest I'll be seeing! Good Luck, everyone!

This contest is interesting! I'll probably enter the fanfic one, if I have time and inspiration to write it... But I have 2 questions...

-Do I have to create an english pun for her name? Because my character is a French Canadian, so I wanted her to have a french name...

-I want my character to become one of the canon character's girlfriend in the fanfic I want to write for the contest... Can I do that?

-No, you don't have to. We've had people submit Japanese characters and such.

-Sure! They can be related to anyone in any way.

Spoilers are fine, because by the time entries open in June, the spoiler rule for AAI will have been lifted.

Bhoo - jaa! Let's see is the third time s lucky as they say.

AAI spoilers are fine? Gotcha!
Though...I guess I'll stay with the original AA - AJ style.
AAI sprites just have too many colors in them for my taste so...
Meh...

Really hyped for this one right now!

Urk! I feel like such a newb. I just started playing AA last summer. :payne:

But I'll definitely be entering! Probably a fanfic. My drawing is really bad, and I'm horrible with sprites. Plus, my english teachers like the stories I write. :redd:

It's sad though because I've been entering so many AA contests lately and I haven't won any of them. :larry:

I have a question, though. Is it okay if the point of view of my fanfic is not from my OC?

A question related to sprites:
- Ummm...Will there be two different categories?
I mean...Like own category forr AA/AJ styled and one for AAI styled works?
Example: If I'd do sprite with AAI style, I couldn't send anything AA/AJ styled.
Just a thought, but...Just in case someone thinks of this too.

Or will there be just one, mixed, sprite...thing...
Just seeing somee AA styled and AAI styled just seems so...Wierd in my taste...

Asking this because I finally had an idea what to do,
but I haven't picked the style yet.
Better check this anyway, right?

So...?

well zinle I'm pretty sure there both apart of the same category
( mostly because I think how few AAI sprites there might be considering how much more challenging they are to make )

now on which style to choose...I dunno about you but im sticking with AJ since there easier but I did make 1 AAI sprite for the character for display purposes...anywho good luck to you zinle whatever you do :godot:

I was thinking about the style of the sprites too.

IMO the AAI ones are easier to edit, but with the AA ones, there are a shitload to play with so you can be more original. But then I was thinking, an AAI one probably has a better chance of winning because they look better but FFS I can't decide whether to stick with the one I'm doing or just bin it for an AAI style.

I might not even enter yet but you know.

I'm just gonna go baww in a corner.

There's only going to be one category for sprites, so you can use whichever sprite style you want. Just remember that the people judging your sprites are familiar with the game characters - just because the AAI sprites have better shading doesn't mean they'll automatically look better and more original if you just slap them together.

AAI will be considered "non spoiler" by the time the entries go live so don't worry about using breakdowns, either.

No, there is no palette rule. But entries are judged on continuity, so if your sprite looks like it came out of a dating sim and not an Ace Attorney game, you may not get as good a score.

I haven't entered at all in the past contests, so I've made up my mind to join this one. I definitely won't be able to make it to the finals, since I'm such an amateur at most of this, but it's still a very exciting event for all of CR. I hope everyone does a great job!!! :keiko:

Hi I have a question, Croik.

I'd like to enter the Fanart section. But I've made animations. Are they allowed? If you'd like me to send you what I have to show you what I mean I'll be happy to.

Thank you~
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn?

Already answered in PM, but for everyone else, flash animations are not eligible for the OC Contest. Sprites should be in .gif form and Fanart entries are limited to two pieces of still art.

Let's say that my OC is Maya/Phoenix's son.
Some people tend to judge by the pairing, and that's kinda like a disadvantage.
Some people won't like the pairing, Maya/Miles shippers won't like it.
Maya/Anyone else too, Phoenix/Miles, Phoenix/Franziska, Phoenix/Iris, Phoenix/anyone else. etc etc.

So, is there some judging-rule about that?

Yeah, it does bring a big disadvantage. There are people who ship many crazy things but since it's their opinion, they shouldn't be judged by that. It isn't right when you, for example, create one of the best OC's you've ever seen and it loses because of the pairing.

Sig by me!
I PROUDLY ship Phoenix/Franziska, Miles/Maya, Klavier/Ema, Apollo/Trucy, Mia/Diego. Phoenix/Franziska day on June 21st! Come one, come all!

There's no real rule against people sending in characters from the result of pairings, but they'll likely get a lower score in regards to the continuity part of the initial judging, which could result in them not getting through if the execution and originality scores don't make up for it.

This could be a real issue for your current sprite Auraion (if you're still using Franziska's child), from what I've seen the sprite itself is ok, but given that her design seems to basically be Franziska, but younger, she probably won't score very high on the originality stakes.

What constitutes improper promotion? It would be beneficial if this information was announced early to avoid any issues in pre-contest hype.

For me, specifically, I had an idea for a thread specifically for discussing and appreciating 2010 Contest OCs. Does identifying OCs with their respective creators violate the rules of promotion? Are the rules different for finalists and non-finalists? Currently, I have drafted thread rules that prohibit flaming and also require that discussion be kept to OCs whom creators have consented to showcase.

If I'm not mistaken, this rule works like this: it's forbidden to use your own blog/website/livejournal/facebook/twitter/etc... accounts and tell people to go and vote for your entry (something like 'Go there and vote for me!'), just because you want them to vote for you, without even reading your entry, or anybody else's.
This contest is not a popularity contest, so Croik wants to avoid people asking other people to vote for their own entries, but without giving a damn about the contest itself, without actually reading the entries. No people just voting for their friend(s), in other words. The winners of this contest shall not be those who have the most friends.

Of course, if you really believe your friend(s) has/have written the best fanfic, draw the best fanart, created the best sprite(s), there's no problem in voting for him.

I'm trying to finish up my entry for the Fanart section and I have a question.

I have several custom "objection" type Bubbles that I need for my piece. I'm running a little close to the deadline, so I was going to assemble them with Maple Rose's Objection Font. Is this okay? It's only a very minor part of the entry, but I wanted to make sure it won't get it in trouble.

She says they're okay to use, so yes, that's fine. Just make a note in your entry where they came from.

As for the other questions:

Judging is based on specific criteria, so no, a character dependent on a certain pairing is not necessarily at a disadvantage (say, if it's a daughter of Phoenix/Maya vs Phoenix/Iris, it's more likely that the entry could be docked for originality for being "daughter of Phoenix...!" at all regardless of who the mother is. Family members of canon characters are always a little tricky because they have to be very well done to stand out).

Also, since I'm overseeing the contest myself, I will be keeping an eye out for bias (not that I expect that to be an issue with my judges, as they're all very cool people). What that means for the community vote is another issue that I just can't control.

As for Improper Promotion:

Some creators have entered characters that they have posted other places before, thus it's inevitable that you might recognize some of them and know who entered them. But not all our creators have given permission for their identities to be "outed" so I would rather not have a thread dedicated to connecting creators to their entries. Discussing the entries (with an emphasis on the positive!) is fine.

What is definitely against the rules is posting in your LJ, Deviantart, Blog, etc, with a "vote for me!" link directly to the contest poll. That will get you immediately disqualified. If you want your friends to know about the contest, you can link them to the Contest Info page (I'll put up the exact link when voting starts) so that you have to pass through the entries before going to vote.
