It actually sounds closer to Ben Judd's objection from the original trilogy. It's ok actually

As a quick question, due to the new voice clips, the voice actors are all the same from Dual Destinies, correct? :ron:

Yep. Sam Riegel and Orion Acaba are reprising their roles. I'm not too sure about Wendee Lee, but judging from her second line in the Maya Trailer, I guess it's safe to say she'll be reprising.

And joining the cast: Brina Palencia is playing Rayfa, and Abby Trott is Maya. I'm not too sure who voiced Ahlbi, though.

And I know I've said this too many times, but I really hope that Matthew Mercer voiced Nahyuta. I heard him as Shigure in Fire Emblem Fates and thought he'd be a good Nahyuta!

They showed the prologue at the expo, yes?
Maybe we can ask someone who went there to describe his voice?

Mixed on Palencia voicing Rayfa, considering that Rayfa is 14 years old. I would've preferred a higher pitched voice for her, but oh well.

I disagree on sounding closer; both Ben Judd's and DD's had an emphasis on the second syllable of the word, whereas all the emphasis in the new one is on the first syllable. It sounds a lot closer to how Apollo shouts his objection, whereas Phoenix was a bit more even with it.

I don't think it's bad; it's certainly nowhere near as bad as Riegel's Objection from the first DD trailer (which I'm really glad they changed), but I don't think it's an improvement, and when it comes to voice acting I'm not really for redoing things unless it needs to be fixed (like Klavier). More than anything, it seems like something more fitting for Apollo.

Is Wendee Lee voicing Athena? She sounds different than in Dual Destinies.

Also, Rayfa doesn't sound like a 14 year old. Maybe she's just trying to sound grown-up.

But I love Maya's voice. Better than PLvsPW, in my opinion.

I sent Wendee Lee a message on twitter asking her if she's returning, I doubt she'll answer, but if she does I'll keep you updated.

Athena's voice was all over the place in DD. Her Objection, Hold It, and Take That sounded like they belonged to three different people. Her voice sounds similar to what it sounded like during the few cutscenes that she talked in (in particular, her sad tone sounds very similar to the way she sounded at the end of Case 1), and both Phoenix and Apollo are returning their VAs from DD, so I'd be surprised if she wasn't reprising her role.

Is it just me, or does the voice acting sound over-acted? I mean, they could get William Shatner to play the judge, and it wouldn't feel out of place at all.

It usually is during the trailers; honestly, it's one of the reasons why I'm against full VA-ing in the actual games. I've heard from Japanese speaking friends that it's the same way in their trailers. It shouldn't affect the quality of the actual game in any way, outside of some of the cutscenes being kind of cheesy.

Over-acting is a huge problem in just about every dub I've seen. Every line usually sounds harsher than it needs to and the pace of delivery feels slower than something naturally recorded in English might (as if trying to dub over the same scene in Japanese requires fewer vocalizations to convey the same message, so they need to slow down their words more than someone would need to if the whole scene was in English from the get-go).

I agree. In fact, when I heard the Objection, I thought it belonged to Apollo! (I hadn't seen this trailer before as a conscious choice.)

Yup, it's the typical anime-dub scenario where the actors have almost zero voice direction and they just phone it in. (Except they nailed Maya) I almost can't believe Sam Riegel is a Phoenix Wright fan because I don't even think he did a good job by casting himself as Wright -- it just sounds wrong that despite Apollo sounding like a adolescent teen or a young adult Phoenix still sounds younger than that despite of trying to sound more mature than in DD (or maybe Riegel forgot how he made the Phoenix voice back then).

Athena is just... wow, Wendee Lee surely didn't give a damn about this material. At least I hope the general anime-scene direction is better overall. It was judging by case 1 and the first part of case 2 that I played.

As a dane, I always looked up to cartoon dubs in the US because I know it makes me cringe in my native language when watching whatever animated series that all have the same 5 actors in my language that rarely get into character but discovering anime-dubbing in english or just dubbing of foreign material in general, I've realized that that's really what it's about in the end. It seems when actors are paid to dub over a foreign language they tend to do worse because they're probably being told most of the time to simply pay attention to the original audio and make an english counterpart over it. It usually ends up sounding like someone speaking into a mic making a half-baked line delivery.

The only really great and authentic american anime dub I can remember is Dragon Ball and DBZ. It felt like they went out of their way to make the american version unique or localized I guess and though the acting was bad at times it still felt like they were trying to do it their own way which I really liked. Nintendo of EU/NA is also pretty great at whatever dub they create for localizations.

Thing is, it says in the trailer "Two ace attorneys battle in two different lands" and shows silhouettes of both Phoenix and Apollo. I would have thought that if what you said is true they would have said "Three ace attorneys" and included Athena in that.

I don't think this needs a spoiler tag but I'll put one anyways.

Spoiler:
She IS playable. People have played the game in Japan already; trust me, they know. She's playable for only case 4 though.

Spoiler:
And you honestly thought the trailer was 100% accurate? Yes, the game is mainly about Phoenix. Heck, most would probably argue that it has MORE to do with Apollo. And it's been said already, but Athena is playable in case 4, which I believe is the case where Simon hops over to the defense bench.

I remember the old one getting taken down rather quickly. Sadly you are out of luck there. Unless you go via an official source, such as Crunchyroll.

You mean, the English anime prologue showed at AX?

Also, quoting your other reply: not true, Crunchyroll does have English dubs too, though the vast majority of their stuff (like 99%) of it is in the original language.

Not sure what Capcom is going to do regarding the English anime prologue. Most likely uploaded on YT down the line.

Am I the only one who legit likes Rayfa's voice? Sure, she sounds a bit older than 14, but that fits with her character. Maya sounds exactly how I hear her in my head at this point (glad she doesn't still sound 16), Ahlbi sounds good too (no notes), Phoenix and Apollo are both okay, but I prefer certain fandubs.

Honestly, the only one I can never get into is Athena. I don't hate it, but it's not what I picture at all. Homulily (in Tyranee's dub) blows Wendee Lee out of the water for this one, though that might be because I watch that series so obsessively.
