On another note, I wonder how the game would change as a result of (almost certainly) being developed for the 3DS.

I'd personally like full voice acting, sprites that were fluidly animated, an orchestral score during the non-ambient moments, more cinematic camera work, and maybe even cutscenes (for example, if JfA had been made for 3DS, at the part where Phoenix crashes down the door in Engarde's manor, we'd actually see him do it in a Layton-esque cutscene rather than just reading a few lines of text and having to extrapolate what happens.)

Oh man I'd hate full voice acting and cutscenes. As much as change and innovation is necessary I think the old PW formula is what gives the games some of their charm(much like Pokemon). Personally I'd miss the beeping noise of the text if they went full voice acting with it. As for cutscenes I don't know how to explain it, but I feel like they wouldn't fit in well.

What I'd love to see is 3D examining of evidence ohoho hmmm yes. An upgrade to the sprites would be nice too, though the AJ ones were good enough as it is.

In other words you don't really want anything new?
Didn't AJ and even PW1-5 have 3D examinations of evidence?

I think cutscenes would be good at just the right times.

Besides better get used to cutscenes, good ol' Phoenix is going to appear in plenty in PW VS PL

I didn't say that. I said I don't want voice acting and cutscenes. Any new gameplay features(such as Edgeworth's logic)would be very welcome. What I don't want is the overall presentation of the game to be completely revamped.
I know, I just want to see it with the 3DS's capabilities. Now I think about it in the end that isn't asking for anything new though.

I don't mind the cutscenes in PW vs PL because that more than likely isn't going to be a traditional PW game. I don't want it in the main games because I don't want the feel an Ace Attorney game has to go away. Animated cutscenes might be nice at the beginning of cases though I admit.

Lemme put my two cents in.

We lost AAI in Europe aside from English, AAI2 because of localization costs.

Voice acting will significantly increase localization costs.

I really like the cutscenes idea but not sure about full voice acting. The voice of Nick in my head is just the guy from Capcom (who does a great job with his "Objection!" "Hold it!" etc) but he's not a professional VA, and I can't imagine who they'd get to do it.
The 3DS has potential for more interesting examinations like in 1-5 and AJ, with more science :D

I wouldn't miss the science...plus if the science ISN'T in it then I don't need to look at Ema's whiny face for the whole game.
I'd love to see the perceive system make a return though. Maybe even....hone the ability to an extent...perceiving people in 3D to catch like...twitches on their back or something.

Still Wooster makes a good point, what's most important is that we get the games localised here and if voice acting prevents that then I could go without it. Besides full voice acting on every line would just make everything take so much longer.

If GS5 is about Polly, then definitely Percieve should return. They should go more in-depth with it though, and also use it a lot more often.

Nick was Magatama mad but poor Polly'd hardly got to use his signature move.

That's just what I was thinking! I think it would be really great if we could use the precieve system outside court.

Also DON'T GET RID OF SCIENCE Ema would just not be needed if they did that :( And that's no fun.

That's the point!
Besides she's a scientific failure anyway and the science minigames I didn't really feel added anything to it, you couldn't get it wrong so it's essentially just padding.

Now the music puzzle was something that was actually an intriguing little minigame but the science bit...just...well when you can't fail where's the fun in it?

This.

Full voice acting is out of the question. Partial voice acting like in Professor Layton too. And... as much as I would love animated cutscenes ala Professor Layton, they would most definitely also mean voice acting. And those mean paying voice actors, or having programmers/localizers doing the voices for an extra buck and ending up with something similar to the abortion that was Callisto's "Objection!" in AAI.

You played as Apollo for almost all the game except towards the end when you play as Phoenix.

Yes, plus, when Mia helped Phoenix in almost all GS's cases no one complained, right? "The guy was new at this, a little help made the game more coherent"
No one complained about Mia's flashback cases in T&T. Phoenix always received help, this should be the same with Apollo and I agree, it may be Apollo's show time, but this does not makes him a God or a GS history eraser.

Yes, Mia does help Phoenix, but she didn't completely overshadow Phoenix in 1-4. (And she only briefly popped up in 1-5...)
1-4 focused on Phoenix, Miles, and Larry's relationship in a way, while 4-4 serves as a way to tell yet another tale about Phoenix. Doesn't sound right when Apollo should be in that spotlight, no?

Though I think Tayo is kinda contradictory, "I really love that PHOENIX defeated Kristoph (the final boss essentially)" "We got to delve into PHOENIX's past" which was already explored "You got to play as him for the LAST case" where everything counted and gets really important, seriously the last cases in all the games are the most memorable important ones.

Yet Tayo claims....he didn't steal the show...despite getting the limelight at the end.

Though the Mia thing...I'd say it's because it was Apollo's first game...he needs the screentime. By the time Mia appeared as playable Phoenix had two games under his belt and the majority of GS3 playable, whereas Apollo is still just green before Phoenix steps in to finish his game for him in the last case.

By the time Mia was introduced Phoenix was already a well established fun character so Mia wouldn't overshadow...Apollo never really had that chance.

Not only that, but Phoenix pretty much controlled the first trial in GS4. He did all the work while Apollo was his Yes Man...

At least when Mia helped Phoenix, she would just drop little hints that Phoenix would have to figure out himself, or soften extremely frustrating witnesses outside of court.

Adding to this, with Mia and Phoenix, you have a main character sharing the stage with a secondary character. Mia is certainly important, but I wouldn't necessarily put her in the main character category as you would with, say, Maya or Edgeworth. I don't think there was ever really a fear that giving her face-time in court would upstage Phoenix in his own game.

But with Apollo, he's not vying against a fun background character who needs a little more development, but instead, the biggest and most beloved character in the series. That alone makes the comparison unfair, in my opinion. Mia + Phoenix sharing a game =/= Apollo and Phoenix sharing a game. It was a battle of egos, and Apollo was bound to lose. XD

*) I pray that this is true.

*) I HOPE WITH ALL MY HEART that Apollo will be the maincharacter, because Phoenix and Edgeworth have been SUCKED DRY TO THE BONES.

*) "Gyakuten Kenji no Hito"... I feel reminded of my idea that Kay could grow up to be a rival Prosecutor for Apollo, continuing Nick's&Edgey's legacy in a way. :maya:

Well, now that Capcom's got a 10th anniversary event coming up, maybe there is a chance GS5 is on its way - it'd be a nice way to cap the event. I guess it depends on what the event entails.

Level-5 World itself is a few days later on the 15th, but the 10th anniversary event isn't being held on the anniversary - details of the event will be announced then, but the event itself presumably won't be until later.

Since the release of GS4 (2007)there has been a two year gap between games. GK was released in 2009 and GK2 this year so i can see the next game (if there is one) being released at least in 2013. So it kinda made sense that they didn't announce anything about GS in this TGS, aside from PL vs GS. Maybe we're going to hear about GS5 or GK3 the next year. Besides it seems unlikely that they'll release two Gyakuten games in the same year. 2012 is going to be about PL vs GS after all. Anyway..just my two cents.
