Read The Full Interview Here

Following up the earlier report, the EU interview with the Ace Attorney producer has taken place. Here are some of the highlights:

Is the upcoming Turnabout Prosecutor game part of a series? Or...will there be a sequel to it?
Matsukawa-San: It is the Ace Attorney series for sure, but will have signicantly different features. We can't say much for the sequel to this, we'll have to see, don't we.

Will we see many familiar characters in TP? (I know Edgeworth, and Gumshoe are there, but is there anyone else?)
Matsukawa-San: This is actually soon to be announced. More and more information regarding this will be released in the near future so look out!

In Japan, Ace attorney music concerts are quite popular. Do you think it would be possible to have one of these concerts held in the US or Europe in the future if the fan base is numerous enough?
Matsukawa-San: If there are enough people who would like to attend then sure, why not!

Was there any specific reason to release Apollo Justice before Trials and Tribulations in Europe while in the US it was the other way around?
Matsukawa-San: People wanted to play Apollo Justice with all the new characters more than Trials and Tribulations at that time.

Not wanting to ask for any specifics about the releasedate: will perfect proscecutor be released in Europe (almost) simultaniously with America?
Matsukawa-San: I can't really say for now. However, as you may have noticed Capcom is very susceptible to fan voices so if you make enough noise...we'll hear you!

PW suddenly made the whole very Japanese "graphical novel" genre popular in the Western world. Can we expect similar games translated to English in the future?
Matsukawa-San: I'm absolutely delighted to hear that Phoenix Wright made such a cultural impact! It was a challenging task but it was obviously well worth the effort. However, at the moment I would imagine it would be hard to come up with 'similar' games and the PW series will be the one and only of this calibre.

Will we ever see Phoenix & Maya again?! I want phoenix and Maya to be seen again so badly. You built up their friendship, and I think they deserve something more.
Matsukawa-San: Capcom is a company that is influenced by the voices of fans, almost too much so. So, if the fans out there make enough hype and noise about it...you know the drill!

Well, then - let's make our voices heard, shall we?
Does we even do these things anymore?

It was more "maybe, depending on what the fans want" for each question.

Every time a company is influenced by the fans too much, the games get crap.

And So I ask for Maya NOT to be brought back. :3

Well, not any worthwhile info, but then, my reaction to all this is:

BRING BACK MAYA WITH PHOENIX IN GS5!

All I want to know is what Maya is up to and I'll be content. Then get rid of Pheonix ( though I do appreciate him more than Apollo) and have apollo room to grow.

Well, she actually answered "Maybe, if the fans want it enough" to most questions. Even that is more than most people in her position are prepared to reveal. :P

I agree with this. Maybe not getting rid of Phoenix as a character, per se, but at least making him less involved with Apollo's cases. Like in 4-3, for example.

Yes, and pretty much this is why 4-3 is the only cases where Apollo could really shine, and I love that case (almost as much as 4-4).

What I want is bring Maya back for just a short time, make Phoenix playable for half of the final chapter of AJ2 (and maybe a bit more), but the rest of the game should be about Apollo, and in GS6, Phoenix shouldn't even appear that much.

Not really. There isn't really anything you can say that's *less* revealing than "maybe." Not that I blame her, it's just kind of silly to ask for fan questions and then post all the ones she couldn't answer.

I've got it! In GS5, it's revealed that Phoenix goes off to marry Maya and live in Kurain, thus we know what happens to both of them and no more Phoenix! It's perfect!
Buuuut that "couple" is almost definitely platonic and I am trying not to support it anymore, so you didn't hear that from me. >__> <__<

By the way there was one answer that got me:

Matsukawa-San: People wanted to play Apollo Justice with all the new characters more than Trials and Tribulations at that time.

It seems like a big lie to me. I don't know anyone who wanted to play AJ first, only people who were upset because of PW3 wasn't released before AJ.

YES YES YES

A few days ago I had the most awesome, expensive idea that would never happen. D:

Since the US is a big country and AA fans are really spread out, transportation is an issue. Heck, a big portion of PW fans probably don't have their driver's liscence yet and are in school. (like me, lol) What if there was something like a test so you can prove that you're a big fan, and then you get free transportation?

At the very least, it's proof that Japan acknowledges that foreign fans are aware of future titles, as opposed to playing dumb until the native branch 'announces' the title.

... and People want MORE Phoenix in Apollo's Arch? *chokes* GS4 wasn't Apollo's game, it was Phoenix Wright: Ace Ex-Attorney.

Well, if Matsukawa and her team had just left Phoenix with his good, GS3 ending in the first place instead of deciding to ruin his life because "hur hur, it'd be funny", it's likely a lot more people would have been satisfied with moving on to a new cast and this wouldn't be an issue. :yogi:

No, not really. Phoenix was in GS4 to sell GS4. People would've been less likely to move onto the new cast without someone marketable to draw them in. Problem is, how do you make someone godly important a side character? The writers felt that making Phoenix a Hobo would both solve that problem AND create a big "OMG What happened to Nixie!" wave that too over the internet. It worked. Except, they made Phoenix bigger then the person who was supposed to replace him.

Maybe, but I think the whole point of the "interview" was to maintain attention toward the title; to keep us talking about it. No harm in that. The bummer is that because the game is still in production and there's no way to predict how successful it will be, there aren't too many questions she can answer. Capcom just doesn't have the info yet...

I think I've read/watched interviews with policians that were less vague than this 'interview.'

There is no telling what their real reason is. Maybe it will be obvious when Europe finally gets PW3, but who knows. I remember someone else saying that Capcom would really have to tame Jean Armstrong's character for Europe, but I'm not sure if that speculation would delay the game this long for that market.

I wonder what Jean's nationality becomes in the French version.
Does he really need to be a foreigner anyway?
When they say "French restaurant" in the English version, they could just say "réstaurant traditionel" in the French.

Why should they tame him? They didn't do it in the american version, didn't they?

The arguement was that the French might get a tad upset at a character like Jean. He is a stereotypical effeminate French chef. The American audience possibly would not care since its a stereotype not making fun of Americans in general.

Furio Tigre and Lotta Hart make fun of Americans, but specifically the Brooklyn gangster and the south respectively, so the game gets away with it. I'm from the south and I found Lotta annoying, but I wasn't offended because I know people like that exist in our area.

Of course, this is all speculation. I have no idea why the game was delayed. We may never find out. European formers could probably tell us if there is a difference if they play that version and compare it the imported one.

From what I heard from Capcom's guys, censoring had nothing to do with T&T being delayed. It was a simple schedule mess up. I'm not sure how accurate it is to say "Fans wanted AJ more" but at least it's coming out in Europe at all!

What an odd schedule mess up, but yes, at least its coming out there.

Does this mean that we will have to re-enable spoilers for that game?

As far as I'm aware, the spoiler ban on T&T was never withdrawn in the first place.
