Phoenix Wright series is heading online?

"Capcom will release the online version of its popular title such as “Monster Hunter”, “Street Fighter” and “Phoenix Wright”. The number of users who do not own a game console but play games on their computer is expected to increase even more in the future. - Capcom financial report"

... as copied from GoNintendo.

And here's the source of the source from Go Nintendo

http://ir.capcom.co.jp/english/data/pdf ... annual.pdf

Beware the 8 meg PDF...

Also another interesting quote from the PDF...

Quote:
The domestic mobile content market saw our
“Ace Attorney” become a hit, which was one of the
leading factors for our increased profits.

I'm fairly sure that they're talking about Japan in this document. Cause I hardly hear about the Cell phone version over here. Actually, is the cell phone game still out?

And here's another highlight from the PDF
Image

Now that I've taken a second look at that chart, I'm actually curious about the Ace Attorney series future in terms of platform. We might also want to take a look at this article too,

“All major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multi-platform games.” - Capcom financial statement

Taking that statement, and that chart that says that Capcom considers PW a major title, should we expect the Ace Attorney series to seriously appear on other platforms? Historically we've seen the series on the DS/GBA, PC, Cell Phone, and Flash.

IMO, the series needs to stay on DS.

I'm don't think they shouldn't change platforms. If people just want to shout for fun,"Hold it!" or "Objection!" or "Take that!" or-if in the perceive system-"Gotcha!" then they should just let the series stay on the DS.

... so yeah, they should stay on the DS. :grey:

I had posted this earlier, but of course Wooster made a much better description in posting it. Oh well! :godot:

Still very interesting news, though. Even if the series is well suited for the DS, if it can reach more (potential) fans via online distribution, it could be a step in the right direction.

its going to be a flash game now?
I hope its different from the actual games themselves. And I think it should stay on the DS only, I dont know why, I guess its just a conservative mind.

The thing is, if they take it off DS, then no more scientific investigation and 3D Evidence ('cause that used the touch screen) and no more microphone :(

The only platform it could be on and keep that would be PC. (Theoretically Wii, too, but the touch-screen stuff would be much harder to do)

And Tuesday... what is that stuff?! ._.

Ha ha, what you saw are cell phone games exclusive to DoCoMo phones which is a branch of NTT (the Japanese version of AT&T, if you will).
As for what JapaneseGIRL is trying to point out is that the Japanese has been mistranslated. It's not like the PW games will now be flash-based or anything. The original Japanese says that popular games such as Monster Hunter and PW are going to be distributed online, and she linked the actual online distribution site for PW. But the games are basically the PC ports of the original GBA games that went on sale years and years ago. Think STEAM for Valve games.

Sounds to me like Capcom is just trying to find more ways to distribute the games they have, not necessarily make new games for said platforms.

While it wouldn't be the exact same thing, it's easy to reproduce the investigation and 3D evidence without the DS's touch screen. Just because it was made with the touch screen in mind doesn't mean it should have to be exclusive to it. Besides, a mouse can just as well be used, perhaps more accurately, too.

GS-themed cell phone games, released in Japan only, IIRC.

That's why I said PC.

You could also use "touch-screen" with the Wii (since it has the motion sensor) although it wouldn't be as accurate and easy to control.

And the scientific minigames and 3D examination would be kinda clunky without touchscreen. (Press the left/right arrows to rotate left/right. Press the up/down arrows to rotate up/down. By pressing and holding R, when you press the up/down arrows, you will zoom in/out instead of rotating. By pressing and holding L, the arrows will move your cursor. Then press A to examine)

It's just a lot easier and nicer with touch screens =\

Everyone seems to be missing the fact that the iPod Touch/iPhone would make an incredible platform for the Ace Attorney games. You could even do Rise from the Ashes from the first game, if you replaced "blow into the mic" for fingerprinting with "shake the iPod"... :D

In my opinion it should stay on the DS. It would be pretty tough to look at evidence if it was on the wii. But, it would be an interesting experience if it was on another platform. But then again...ah! I'm so confused. It should just be on the DS. :sadshoe:

This caught my eye. I'm in agreement with everyone else: Should stay for DS. I can't picture an online game and thousands of people wanting to be a defense attorney or prosecutor and people would complain about being a suspect. Just an opinion of mine though. The thing I like about the DS version is that everything is already plotted for you. For Phoenix Wright you take the role as Phoenix (or maybe Mia). For an online game, there'd need to be some kind of restriction on how many people can play such and such a role. Least that's the impression I get from reading this...

I don't think it meant online like an MMO. I think it's like a flash game like on a website.

I hope its just stays on DS, but if it is played on a web browser, that's fun.

but not in wii, that's not good...
