Things have been a bit quiet on the upcoming Layton vs. game. While there is nothing new to report, Level-5's American offices are running, and on their website, they have a profile page for the currently Japanese only-slated game.

A few months back, we reported that Level had opened an office in Santa Monica, and that they would be developing games targeted specifically for the American audience. However, Level 5 president, Akihiro Hino, says that they also plan to bring games over from Japan:

This message is part of Level 5’s newly launched American website. You can view pictures of the office, find links to their Twitter and Facebook pages, and read a little introduction about the history of the company at the link.

In recent times, the only Level 5 games that have been consistently published overseas by the same company are the Professor Layton games, which are published by Nintendo in the U.S. and Europe. Nintendo of Europe also published the very first Inazuma Eleven on Nintendo DS.

I'm gonna have to get myself a 3DS one day...

It's a nice message, and it's encouraging to see Layton vs. AA on their site, but if I may play devil's advocate I wouldn't call it any sort of localization confirmation; they've got some clearly JP-only products under "history" as well.

I just hope L5 are better at marketing than Capcom. ">>

Oh, I have no doubt that we'll get PLvsAA eventually; it would be a downright retarded move to not release it overseas. The question is, will it be localized before or after Miraculous Mask? Probably after since the MM is actually, you know, finished.

On a Level-5 related note, I want Dragon Quest X soon. Preferably for the Wii. It felt like while DQIX had potential to become the best game in the franchise, it was held back by the fact that it's on the DS.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does Level 5 have anything to do with Dragon Quest? Isn't that Square Enix's ground? @_@

If I'm not mistaken, Level-5 developed DQIX for SE.

They did indeed.

Great to see PLvsAA in their In Development list, shame there's no "North America: TBA" amongst Ninokuni's release dates...

Maybe this can change now with the glorious-sounding Level-5 International America.

So is it now a financial statement to have 3rd parties develop 1st party titles? @.@

Yep, and DQVIII as well.

Square Enix would be considered a 3rd-party developer, since they don't produce the consoles on which you play their games. Dragon Quest would be a 3rd-party title either way.

Also companies contract other companies all the time to do work for them. But this is good news. I was under the impression that the San Diego offices wouldn't be used for localizing their Japanese titles, since that's what Kotaku said.

So... would that make Level-5, in the case of Dragon Quest, a 4th party developer?

Level-5 is a 5th party developer.

And in the case of Ace Attorney, a 7/2th party developer.

Oh my bejeezus!

Level-5 is currently running a poll seeing which unlocalized games people are interested in. Currently Ace Attorney VS Professor Layton is ruling the poll.

My appreciation for Level-5: +5

Am I in trouble for skipping over Layton vs. Ace Attorney with a dismissive motion, and looking at Time Travelers and being filled with glee that it matched a cannon Layton game in vote support?

Guys, PLvsAA is already going to win, we already know PL5 will come our way whatever happens in this poll, so GO VOTE Ninokuni on DS!

You are mutinying, Wooster. As an Admin for this site you're not allowed to be excited for anything above an Ace Attorney game. :shoe:

Well, its the only one for the DS, and I probably wont upgrade to a 3DS until MML3 is released. And seeing as that was cut...

Dude. MML3 is going to completed. Mark my words. You couldn't PAY for the kind of publicity that game has gotten.

Now I need a new comparison...

Time Travellers could be neat, but I'd like to see some more about it. And while I'm sure Ni no Kuni is amazing... I have to show my PLvsAA support. I'm sorry Studio Ghibli, after Megaman Legends 3 I can't run the risk of another "take my money" game getting axed due to low fan demand.

(As an aside, I'm really not convinced Legends 3 will be making a comeback.)

Is it the same level of publicity as Operation Rainfall has given to Xenoblade Chronicles, the Last Story, and Pandora's Tower?

Oh man, I hope I didn't sound mean. xD But yeah, personally, MML3 publicity is ALMOST reaching OR's (but mind you, Operation Rainfall started on IGN, a major gaming news site).

I wish you could vote for more than one game, because it's not like I don't want the games I didn't vote for. I hope they all make it to Europe and the US.

Shouldn't we front page that poll? I think it needs every bit of support that us AA fans can give.

We probably should all mosey down to the poll for a good voting.

It's nice to see a move like this, was properly concerned about the game and while it's no confirmation it's a great step towards it.

And with the 3DS price cut, all those 3DS titles except the waitress RPG, plus MML3, suddenly seem more possible than ever. The real, actual 3DS launch will be August 12.

Everyone who voted for Ninokuni on PS3 instead of DS should think a bit more straight: the DS version has been out in Japan for months, the PS3 version doesn't even have a Japanese release date. Besides, the DS is dying and needs to go with a bang like Ninokuni, while the PS3 still has life in it.

Dare I ask, how much will the 3DS cost now that the price will be cut? :v

And I already got the 3DS via a deal in a magnize so yeah.

It'll be around 30% off, which is crazy considering it just came out and I bought my DS Lite for more than that. American, it'll be around $170ish.
