Hi folks,

Long-time lurker, first-time poster. Matter of fact, I just registered so I could get this info out to y'all. ^_~

I'm one of the anime/manga bloggers for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (the daily paper of record for this little ol' rock out here in the middle of the Pacific), and my partner, Wilma Jandoc, just posted her review of the subbed Ace Attorney movie in our Otaku Ohana blog. Just to confirm, and contrary to other reports online, this weekend's screenings at the Hawaii International Film Festival constitute the official U.S. premiere of the film, not AM2 in June. (Yes, we got a DVD screener copy from HIFF. No, we can't share it, sorry. ^_~) You can find it at http://ow.ly/agKLf.

Sadly, I've yet to see it myself. I work this weekend, so I can't catch either of HIFF's screenings, sigh. Planning to wrangle the DVD away from her soon, though. ^_~

Aww it's a shame she didn't think it was so great.

It worries me how she says it's worse because of the fact she IS a fan of the series, makes me feel they might really have messed it up. :yuusaku:

Just got back from the premiere. Lots of references to the game, though I wish the cases weren't so simplified/shortened. Definitely one of the better game to movie adaptations

At one point in the movie, there was an intentional blackout, lasted less than a minute. Also, it seemed like there might have been some skipping during von Karma's breakdown. There were also some spelling errors, and the translation from Japanese to English wasn't fully accurate, but such is to be expected with translations..

However, the movie as a whole was a great experience, with many funny scenes. All Ace Attorney fans should see it when they can.

Hello :)

My two cents about the movie.

So the movie does focus a lot on Edgeworth's case compared to the others, and some parts of the movie's adaption was different than the game, but all of the main concepts and ideas were there.
Spoiler:
For example, the Will Powers case introduces Edgeworth as a prosecutor and uses some other defense attorney...probably 2 minutes showing Sal at most.

The characterization of certain characters weren't exactly the same as the game (for example, :udgy: and :sadshoe: though he still idolizes Edgeworth).

Playing the game and knowing its background might influence how much you will like the movie especially if you wanted it to be exactly like the game plot or if you wanted certain characters to be the way they are in the game. I kinda wished that they incorporated Phoenix's internal dialogue, but I understand from a production standpoint that it will probably add another 10-15+ minutes of film.

I still enjoyed the movie though because while it's not like the game, they did a good job in making it humorous, and subtitles weren't even that bad, just minor errors here and there in terms of word choice. My boyfriend went with me, and he hasn't played the game before, but he thought it was a good movie :)

I'd do anything to watch the movie. Sadly, it's most likely that I won't be able to watch due to my country's location and tight circumstances. *sigh* :sadshoe:

Same situation where I'm from, unfortunately.

After reading that review, I'm really curious about how they changed Redd White's appearance now. I really can't imagine him looking like some homeless dude when I'm so used to the blinding pink and purple. And Nick's constipated face. Must see.

There's a picture of Redd White in the GS Movie Official site thread. He looks like Michael Jackson :payne:
