Well. That was certainly fast. Just as I was getting somewhere to the end of Ghost Trick on my (brand spanking new) iPhone 4S (and I'll be posting my impressions when I get to that point), we just received word that Capcom's just updated their iPhone website, and likewise made good on their word and Ace Attorneys 1, 2, and 3 are apparently on the Japanese iTunes App Store.

We don't know much at this point, other then it doesn't appear to have an English option. And unfortunately because I don't have a Japanese iTunes account, I can't even give you guys some rough first impressions. But after having a blast with Ghost Trick on iOS, I have high hopes for this port.

So anyone who's reading this with access to the Japanese App store, we'd like to hear your story about this new game.

Image

Alright, with some elbow grease I've got some very basic first impressions.

First, GS1-GS3 HD did detect that I had the old crummy version of PW1 installed on my iPhone. It offered to upgrade the game for me, but since I bought them from two different App Stores, and therefore two different accounts, it failed. But still, that's a very nice way to make the people who supported the original release to not feel shafted. So thank-you Capcom!

While it was asking me that, I noticed the game would react if I held the system in portrait or landscape. Once the game started however, I was already holding it in portrait, and then it would not go landscape. I don't honestly know, but perhaps there's a way to play the game
landscape?

I don't understand Japanese, but I was able to stumble my way onto GS1-1. First thoughts? The graphics are a MAJOR step up from the DS. But it's not a 1:1 transition. I noticed some small things, Mia doesn't blink, the opening murder scene pans very framey instead of smooth like on the DS. For the small quibbles it doesn't detract from the gorgeous rendering. Anyways, it's obvious that it's based upon the TGS animations. The mouths don't tween like in TGS, they act more like the games.

As for music, Some sound effects were changed a bit, nothing major. The BGM sounds very very crisp. But I don't know if the music is actually better, or if I'm just not used to the speakers on my new phone. I'll settle for the music being optimized for the small speakers.

And.... that's all I could say. I don't have the patience to blindly get through Frank Sawit's testimony.

Oddly enough, when I started to play GS1-1, I had to download the case. I get the impression that none of the cases come preloaded on the system. Even the free ones. It took me a few failed times to download, since, every time my iPhone went to sleep while waiting, it would cancel the download and then I'd have to restart. (And then it'd go to sleep... and then restart, and then it'd sleep...) whoops.

Still... I wouldn't mind seeing this in English Capcom. *Wink wink, nudge nudge*

Image

And it seems... there's an Objection Generator! You can do Phoenix, Mia, Franny, Edgeworth, and Godot. And... I think Von Karma and Movie Phoenix... but I don't know how to unlock them. Oddly enough, it links you... to an Android App. I don't have an Android phone, nor understand Japanese. So I think this is the extent of my updates.

Again, I don't have a Japanese iTunes account, so I can't download, and therefore rip.

'Free' from what I can see*. And... it's all one App. EG, you get GS1, 2, and 3 all in one game.

*Which likely means In App Purchase

I'm betting it's similar to Ghost Trick then? Maybe they have the first case free and separate purchases for the other games...or something similar.
I wonder if this will show up on the NA app store anytime soon? I really hope so.

Man that hit fast.

By itunes store does that mean...you could play it on a computer if you downloaded it or would it be on an ipad/icrap only?

Okay, with Croik's help, we've got jTunes access! Game is installed and here's a bonus

It detected that I had the crummy version of iOS PW1. It offered to upgrade for free for me.

The problem was, that was with my US account... not Japanese. But the gesture is still nice!

Going to the Android app link on my PC's web browser, it appears to be a Gyakuten Saiban movie hype app.

It probably just has some stills, a summary, a summary of the games for newbies, and other things to get people excited for the Gyakuten Saiban movie.

The app is free, JFA and TaT cost ¥600 each (about $7). The rest of PW:AA costs about $3.

Here's a link to the video gameplay trailer for iPad 2.

So pumped for an english version!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6Qyf-psi90

(And it seems that the person who uploaded the video {who I assume is a big part of the apps for iProducts} says that an english version will come out in a few weeks or months...)

I assume that's the Android app Wooster linked to in the first post? Is there any way to get that app on a European Android? While I don't speak Japanese, it would be fun to check it out.

GS123HD is a free app so it should work. Minna de Igiari! as well.
Hope this helps :phoenix:

I also noted that the collection is called "Naruhodô Ryûichi Hen", which basically is "The Phoenix Wright part".

Well, I don't know what other read into that, but in my eyes this sounds to me like that part is over, and Gyakuten Saiban 5 won't have Phoenix Wright as main character.

Your damn right it sounds like that!

If it's his part then to me it implies there will be more Apollo in the next one.

Takin bets on Apollo 4:1 as the protagonist of GS5!

Or you could read into it that the next part will be the Apollo Justice or Miles Edgeworth part.

And, I don't know Japanes, but couldn't it simply be a synonym for the Phoenix Wright Saga/Trilogy. I wouldn't read too deeply into that yet.

I do agree that you can interpret it in different ways - but I personally get the feeling that it feels weird to release a collection with all his games and write that it's his part of the story, and then suddenly release a new game with him as main character again...

I can have wrong of course, maybe Capcom just weren't thinking when choosing the name or something. :meekins:

I read somewhere that Android versions of these games will be available as well, which is good.

I probably won't invest in them, though. For one thing, I have no idea if an English translation is in the cards and then on top of that, I'm already playing these on the Wii as it is (right at the edge of finishing off Ace Attorney 1, case 5) so there's no need to wait for new versions to come out for my phone.

Here's the problem as Capcom sees it. The last new primary AA game was in 2007. 5 years ago. Phoenix's last non garbage port was GS3 on the DS, in 2008? In any case Phoenix has cooled down a lot. With a movie almost out, CApcom needs a way to milk the movie. That's this trilogy port.

After finally registering for a Japanese iTunes account, I am now downloading the game.
I shall post my thoughts later on.
However, something... interesting caught my eye on the app's page. Apparently it's been updated to 2.00.00 with update notes (which I can't copy) which have some English like "retina" (no doubt retina display) and "iOS 5" (support for iOS5...?).
It's sad though, it seems to be getting mediocre ratings... well, it's done downloading so now I'll see what all the fuss is about.

EDIT:

Unlike Woost, I DO have the patience to get past Sahwit's testimony. :garyuu:
First off though, there's no *blip blip blipping* noises. I don't know if that's an optional thing, but I hope it is. The game just sounds... quiet without the blipping noises.
As said above, the graphics look AMAZING in this game, definitely a step-up from the DS and iOS port's graphics.
Also, they fixed the "no-music-loop" bug from the original iOS port, which is all I wanted! :edgy:
Other than that, nothing seems to be too off, besides some sound effects being changed (and Mia not blinking, maybe she's actually a relative of the Gramarye's... *shot*).
I give this HD remake 4.5 stars for changing sound effects and one animation flaw (I don't know if there are any more because I didn't download the other cases, as there is a big chance this will come over to America).

Okay I played around a bit more and here's what I've learned:

I still cannot find the sprites, but I'm led to believe that Adobe image ready was involved in someway in the project. (Though, not necessarily the sprites?) and that's curious in and of itself since the software was discontinued two or three cycles ago?

The Super Objection, missing from the DS release, has returned. (Though I don't hear Mia's voice?)

The only song I've truly noticed an improvement in the quality is the detective Marshal's theme. Sound effects on the other hand sound better for the most part. Though most menu sound effects are the same.

Curiously, ringtones are considered sound effects, while the people shaking their heads in commotion in the court room is considered BGM.

Music is, for the most part, split into two files. The intro and the loop.

The sprite issue is really bugging me. I feel like it's there laughing at me, but unseen.

I could be wrong, but I believe super objection could only be found on the GBA version (And by extension the PC version?). On the DS, both West and Japanese got a non-objection super objection, for whatever reason.

Spoiler: GS3-5
There's a point in the game where both Phoenix and the ghost of Young Mia object in unison. It... has a lot of audible buildup before it's shouted.

Yeah that's what I thought it was, thanks for clarifying. :phoenix:

Also, I really hate how Mia doesn't blink. I saw that trailer on YouTube and her not blinking was detracting from the rest of it... Hopefully no other characters do that. :payne:

Interesting.... It isn't actually HD. The frames of the screenshots are 960x640 The minumum for HD is ????x720

Sure it's High-ER Definition but not High Definition. But it's still good! Not complaining! It still looks great : D

Although, I reckon they could've made the animations like in TGS (I mean the mouths) and have actual voice dubbing, like in most games nowadays. Sure, it would be time consuming but many games, like the Assassin's Creed series, have lots of lines but still have voice actors...

Well, that is the resolution of an iPhone 4/4S. No reason to have a higher resolution.

Though, originally HD was a tag put on games that were enhanced for the iPad's 1024x768 screen. Is this game only iPhone 4 size, or can it also run on the full iPad screen without scaling?

An objection generator? I've seen those around online here and there. But is this for the iphone version, or is this something entirely different?

I wonder if there will be any chance of someone making an objection generator HD for online use. Like there have been those that use the regular graphics.

There's been an update released.

The "po, po, po" sound when people speak has been put back in.
Plus you can download it in one pack now (rather than dl each case individually)

Plus some minor (undisclosed) changes. Can someone who has the game look to find out? I do hope it's blinking animations.

I'll find out as soon as I can. And that will be once the update is done downloading. Though, if they fixed the animations, that means I'll have to download all the cases... Again. It's for a good cause so I'm all for it. But by the fith update I am going to need a straight jacket.
