I received an email a few days ago by Gaming bus, regarding their recent article regarding Ace Attorney 5 and Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney. There isn't any new info per say, but it is well written and provides a concise overview of what was presented in that busy week. It's well worth the read if you missed the activities.

Just a little heads up... http://level5ia.com/blackbox/

Level-5 International just posted this link on their Facebook page, and with a Nintendo Direct for the 3DS coming (in europe anyway) on Thursday, i thought there may be a connection?

I could be completely off with it being Layton VS Ace Attorney localisation, but i might not be. So yeah!

I doubt it. The Nintendo directs have been about New Super Mario Bros. 2 DLC so... The black box, on the other hand, could be.

That was today's (was revealed about 15 hours ago) and all regions have had that announcement. A Nintendo Letterbox message came through earlier for Europeans from the European president of Nintendo saying that there was going to be a new 3DS related Nintendo Direct on Thursday at 8pm CEST (7pm GMT). NSMB2 DLC was released in Europe today (i.e. i already have it muhahaha).

Also, considering that the only 3DS game that is known to be released at the end of this year (to my knowledge) is Layton and the Miracle Mask, it would be unusual to have no more games releasing the rest of November and December.

I somehow doubt that the Europeans would get an announcement for something like this before NA, but, maybe I'm wrong. :/

But it seems awfully strange that they would put a Nintendo Direct for a non-Nintendo made game (but I think it is Nintendo published not in Japan right?)

Well, Layton is a best seller in Europe (we got the Layton movie way before NA) and Nintendo is publishing the games, so I could imagine it.
But I think this ND will be mainly about Paper Mario.

Pretty sure that there was a Mario or Zelda game that got released in Europe first.

I'm not saying that this is a ND based specifically on this one game, i'm sure we will hear announcements about Paper Mario, maybe Animal Crossing and more, but they previously showed a Layton trailer in the 3DS XL reveal ND, so why not Layton VS AA (if it does turn up)?

Yeah we (UK) got Layton's movie about a year before US.

True, but i doubt they would spend a whole 30 minute presentation on just this.

RE that news... not much variety with just Mario games hey...

Well, I think it's more likely than seeing a PWvPL localization. >.<

Yeah, I guess the ND will most likely dissappoint us in this regard. However the blackbox thingie seems very possibly! I mean it's from Level5 International so it won't be a new game, but most likely a localization and what other game is there besides PLvAA?

But i do hope this black box thing is related to a few 3DS games!

There aren't that many candidates. It won't be PL6 and it won't be any of those smartphone games/apps. So only PLvAA, Fantasy Life and Inazuma Eleven remain (I really doubt it'll be Inazuma Eleven, because these games were never released in the US).
So it's between Fantasy Life and PLvAA and during the poll last year PLvAA had 7399 votes against Fantasy Life's 359...

Mmm… I wouldn't read too much into Level-5's 2012 TGS show. Don't forget the gap between Japanese releases and English localization. I'd keep my eye on the candidates from 2011's Level-5 World. Which obviously includes Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, and a few Level-5 titles that have already seen localization like Ni No Kuni.

Image

Personally, I'm not too hopeful about Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney being the secret title. I figure a title like that is best revealed after the Japanese release, which is two months from now. So it just smells too early to me. On the other hand, as of May, We received a hint that a Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney announcement could be around the corner at E3, which obviously never surfaced. Bolt trusts the source, however, and plans do indeed change for reasons we are not privy to. But the point being an announcement could be closer then I imagine.

Personally, I think it could be Time Travelers. I don't know much about Level-5's other titles. But I don't recall a black cube being important to Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, and I'd figure parchment would be more thematic. The page tastes sterile, which might fit with a SciFi game. Then again, there's the not-insignificant issue of it selling horribly in Japan.

That said, the website doesn't betray much. Digging into the flash file, I only know they used this to create it. The flash file is little more then a frame by frame animation. I don't know why they used flash for this. An Animated GIF would've done as much.

Don't diss Flash. It is much better than GIF at encoding any kind of content. Drop by on IRC and I will give you the long lecture of why.

During the ND they said Europe is getting Guild 01 games via eShop. Available right now. I wonder if the black box is really related to this? Probably.
