"Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" has been announced in the August Nintendo Direct for a 2014 release in both North America and Europe!

Just when the announcements segment was going to end after a first look at Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, a familiar "Objection!" resonated, and our beloved crossover was announced for a release in the West! Here's the teaser trailer that was shown during the presentation. The trailer contains one or two localized character names, and shows some in-progress screenshots of both the Layton and Phoenix segments, as you see in the images.

The game has been given a provisional PEGI 12 rating, and is expected to launch in EARLY 2014 in Europe! To celebrate, here's the Nintendo of Europe president doing one baddass Phoenix impression!

But yeah, the official title is Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and the trailer looks awesome.

I'm at work and when they said "this is all we have for today", I was all like "aww, okay...", then literally went "AAHHH!" when that Objection popped up, thinking "Dual Destinies!", and then PROFESSOR LAYTON VERSUS PHOENIX freaking WRIGHT.

I can die happy... After I play this game.

While I'm extremely frustrated that we didn't see a DD release date, this is AMAZING news!

Two Layton games in one year! I'm guessing that PLvsPW:AA will be released in fall 2014, around the time most Layton games are.

Also, I had assumed they were going to either call it Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright or Professor Layton vs PW:AA rather than just Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, but it's interesting they are using the GS1 logo, where Phoenix Wright is in big letters and Ace Attorney is in small letters. Probably because Phoenix is more recognizable, I guess.

I cannot express how happy I am to hear this news. After AAI2 wasn't localized I was a bit worried about this. I am hoping they announce the release date for Dual Destinies soon as well. But in the meantime woohoo!!!! :jake:

Confirmed for an EARLY 2014 release in Europe (Uk/EU Nintendo twitter), as we get Layton 6 on November 8th, makes sense for sometime around spring!

You don't know how we were hyped in Europe saying that we have non-localized Dual Destinies. And when I see the trailer, i was jumping in the air. The Layton franchise is quite a big deal in Europe and we can say (some kind without a doubt) that this game WILL BE Localized in Europe.... So, if it's a great hit, as I expect to, CAPCOM will reverse and say to European Fans something better than "fuck you, we don't like you" and say "We have realised an error, take Ace Attorney 5 in Multi-5 !".

Also, the western trailers always seem to be more gameplay focused, while the Japanese ones seem like they are edited to be more like a film of an anime.

Glad to see an official release confirmed! Also, if you're like me and insane to the point that you pause trailers to look for names, you can see that Mahoney's named "Aria", Yutorino Garder is named "Johnny Smiles", and Olive is named "Olivia".

YES! I was soo excited when I saw the Objection appear! I don't think I've ever been excited in my life, not even for Christmas or something. As I just said, I'm not a very excited person but when I saw this I jumped out of my chair and yelled "YES!" I honestly think I'm more excited for this than for Dual Destinies!

I actually knew it was going to be in the Nintendo Direct, but when the objection came, I yelled YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

I have a feeling the logo shown isn't official... plus I'm surprised they kept the VS in the title. (Of course, if you look at other Level 5 games, they don't have the best English names...)

I think we can guess early 2014 for PL6 and summer 2014 for PL vs PW.

I guess so, but even with your first reasoning, the reveal had voices and that was in 2011 (2010?) i think?
The worse part is that no voices were even in the Azran Legacies trailer, heck it didn't even get a real trailer.
I hope Dual Destinies will at least have the voices, even if it's a sound clip or two. :larry:

I did notice there were some names, but not knowing anything about the characters since I avoided all spoilers from the Japanese version (SO glad I did now!), I decided not to try to see who's who and just wait for you to pop up. I was actually expecting you :P
