No news for a release date in NA.

The video on the English website was pretty good, except for Phoenix's Objection and Hold It... those better not be the final versions.
Does Professor Layton have the same voice actor in the UK version and in the American version?

I'm pretty certain he has always had the same voice actor for both English versions. I thought Luke was the only one who had a different voice actor?

I've never played any of the layton games before. Should I play them before I get PLvsAA or it doesn't really matter.

Yes the only difference is Luke's voice actor between UK and US. Looks like Japanese girl beat me to it!

I have to say, I'm glad they are keeping in line with the Japanese version's bad voice acting... I joke, but Phoenix's objection isn't great... Maya's voice in the direct was good!

There was a fully voiced English trailer in the EU direct?

No, it was gameplay clips, but you can hear Layton, Luke, Maya and Phoenix speaking if you listen closely

I am not digging Phoenix's voice AT ALL. That better be a temp voice. If it's not I hope Riegel will be Phoenix's voice in the US version.

As for Layton, he sounds like the same guy as always.

Is there usually a difference between the US and British versions of the game regarding voice acting?

All the Layton VAs are the same. It wouldn't make any sense to have one guy voice Phoenix for the EU release and have another for the US. Riegel could be considered "older Phoenix"_, where this gentleman could be considered "young Phoenix"

Edit: Only Luke has ever had a different VA between the UK/US version.

I really wish we got a release date for North America already. Man, Phoenix's new VA is really eh. His "Hold it!" is perfectly fine but his "Objection!" is really boring. I was one of the few people who liked Sam Riegel as Phoenix and I miss him already. :sadshoe:

Wait, did not that many people not like Riegel in Dual Destinies? I know a lot didn't like him in UMvC3 (myself included), but he did a much better job in Dual Destinies and I really like his voice for Phoenix.

I was actually kind of excited to see what they would do for Phoenix' voice for PLvPW:AA since I felt that the Layton games had great voice acting, but now I'm just dissapointed. It's really making me miss Riegel too.

That was exactly my thought. That voice for Phoenix is absolutely horrible and lifeless. It's like some guy on YouTube "voice acting" the game for his crappy camcorder Let's Play.

It sure reflects his expressionless objection face, doesn't it?

Of course, the objection voice is missing the *shing* sound effect that always accompanies it, so that probably doesn't help matters (I'd hope that sound effect will be there in the game...). But it would probably sound bad regardless.

Italian Phoenix is Luca Bottale, AKA Brock from Pokémon, Dib from Invader Zim and Usop from One Piece.

The trailer was pretty slow going, but what gameplay footage was there seemed good. Not keen on the voice acting, but I'm not a big fan of change and I'll probably always miss Nick's original objection. :payne:

The other versions are simply on the other language pages linked in the OP.

Wow, that Phoenix was some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard, and I heard some shitty acting over the years. Does ADR not have quality control anymore, or something? Because even if they couldn't get Riegel for whatever reason, there's no way in hell I would've let takes like that pass.

Danchat wrote:

I really wish I could be more optimistic about this, but with 6 weeks until release, that is not likely in the slightest. The game is probably already in certification as we speak, so unless they accidentally picked some of the worst takes for the trailer, these are the interjections we'll have to deal with in the full game.

Oh dear, I totally didn't realize the video was actually on the demo page...

Anyway, Geman localization seems to be great. I think I will actually play it in German first before trying the English version.

Yeah, me neither. I don't really like Riegel's voice for Phoenix (Ben Judd is still the best, IMO) but the second I heard this voice I was like "No no no, Sam Riegel is twenty times better than this!"
Like this new voice actor's "hold it!" is OK, but his objection is extremely boring.
I kinda feel bad complaining about the voice though, just goes to show that no matter what, people will always find something to complain about, eh? I hope the voice gets better with the cutscenes and all.

It literally just sounded like someone off the street was told to shout "Hold it!". But Layton's voice is the same as it always was, so I'm pleased with that.

See, this is what happened when you complained about Sam's voice as Phoenix. Then again, it could be just for the UK version. Maybe they have two different people doing the UK and US versions.

I felt slight disappointment after hearing Phoenix's voice but it was almost instantly replaced by uncontrollable excitement after hearing Layton's awesome "Hold It".

I'm thinking that in the US version they are going to use Sam Riegel. It would be really disappointing if they didn't.

It's unlikely since the only character that had a different voice in the two versions was Luke. That being said this would be a good time for a second case.

Spoiler: About a returning character in PLvsAA
If Reigel isn't playing Phoenix, does that mean that we won't be hearing Edgeworth's amazing Dual Destinies voice in this game?

Anyway, I doubt that Reigel was "fired"/didn't get the job because of negative fan reaction (the reaction seems mixed at worst). They probably are just using somebody from the same company who hires the other Layton voice actors. I am a bit disappointed, though. Now that Reigel's voice has been planted in my mind, I hear his voice whenever I'm reading something Phoenix says, whether it be the original games, the manga, or others. I hated him before in UMVC, but now I don't actually mind him, although that performance still isn't that great.

Have to admit, the idea of that demo was fun, it is just that it happens to be the easiest puzzle in all of Layton. Also, this just may be a small over look, but I can't read the losing and winning text, it goes by so quick.
