There were a few bumps along the way, but we're pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 (2014?) Court-Records Sprite Cup!

First place: space coyote's Inspector Cabanela!
sc takes her second Sprite Cup, and with it wins the GS5 Phoenix statue! Congratulations!

Second place: mercurialSK's Prosecutor Justice!
mercurialSK's bad-end-Apollo wins the silver and the GS5 3DS carrying case! Nice one!

Third place: Athena Cykes' Trucy Gramarye!
While we're guessing Athena Cykes is a pseudonym and the lines between Ace Attorney and reality haven't blurred that much yet, Athena's take on Trucy pulled bronze and the GS5 sticker set out of a hat!

Fourth place: Barbz's Mona Arch!
Barbz's Shakesperian butterfly thespian is the only totally original character to make the top five!

Fifth place: Lil's Hipster Klavier!
Klavier may have fallen on hard times with this entry, but he's still glimmerous enough to round out our finalists!

And thanks to a generous staffie at Capcom-Unity, all five finalists will receive one of these foam Phoenix fingers! We'll be reaching out to you via the e-mail you submitted with to collect shipping info.

And to everyone who participated, be that by submitting or voting: thank you very, very much! We had a great turnout this year with some really stellar entries, and we'll be making all entries, including non-finalists, available for viewing on C-R in the near future. On a personal note, it was my first time managing a contest for C-R, and I'm hoping to apply the lessons learned in the process to help our upcoming OC Contest run a little smoother. (Oh yes, that's still on its way!)

Space Coyote, heh. Pretty nice work, definitely a sprite worth losing to.

Thank you to everyone who voted :) - I will admit I never expected to make it to the finals at all, so thanks again. Those foam fingers are quite cool.

...Oh gosh, I didn't even realize that the bronze and silver trophies lined up with the entries/entrants like that, haha.

Unfortunately, cool as it would be if we actually had trophies to give out, the most we can do is the Phoenix statue for first.

Yay! Congrats to all the finalists~ This was my first time voting in the Sprite Cup, and boy was it difficult! I really enjoyed all the entries and I can't wait 'til the next one! :edgey:

There are some great entries, like Mr. Hobo's, Zinle's, Stephanie's or Chocobo Head's... In fact, I can't understand why didn't they make it to the finals.

Javier M's entry is weird... It's a weird mix of "well-sprited" and "very flawed", even though I wouldn't actually expect myself to use these two in same sentence.

'Very Flawed' how so? I've not got a great eye for flaws.

Huh... The biggest problem is I can tell something's wrong, but I can barely say what. I believe it's something about proportions, like body being too long, thin arms, asymmetrical shoulders, too small head on too big body... I can't be sure though, because I can't yet picture the "fixed" version of these sprites.

the problem is infact mostly proportions as hes using sprites from AJ and splicing them with AAI which you may guess causes both proportional and directional issues as while the court sprite is close to the angle used its slightly different also because of the use of 2 types of sprites the shading suffers in a difference of quality.

and thats what i see whats wrong with it. :P

Looking at Javier M's entry, the only thing that I see as flawed is the hands are wayy too big. Like when he puts his hand on his chin it's like, huge hand and a little chin. In fact the whole head just seems a tad too small for it's body. It's still better than anything I could do.
I hope I'm not sounding rude to Javier M. or his entry...
