Three years and ten months - that’s how long it’s been since Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was first revealed in a blaze of glory (and animated trailer). Since then there’s been a second Ace Attorney Investigations game released, a fifth Ace Attorney game announced, developed, and released internationally, another spinoff series announced, and three Layton games released internationally.

Busy times for both series, but for North American fans, the wait is finally over. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney launches today in North America, and is available now on the Nintendo eShop for $29.99 USD. Tomorrow, a physical copy will hit store shelves.

As always, the forums are open for discussion of the game and anything else AA-related. We’re still on the lookout for people to provide content (case summaries, walkthroughs, etc.), so if you're interested, reach out to us through e-mail (courtrecord@gmail.com - no, there’s no ‘s’) or post on the forums to let us know.

Finally, our OC Contest is coming into the home stretch - and there's PLvsPW artbooks and plenty of other swag still up for grabs!

So dust off your top hats and pick up your picarats, folks. A very special court is now in session.

It's 11,218 blocks. Also... it seems that they didn't change over any of the British spelling. Not that I mind, but it makes me question the necessity of the wait. :eh?:

Got up extra early to go pick up my copy when the store opens. Maybe I'll wear my attorney's badge pin and see if anyone recognizes it.

I've played the prologue, and it was worth the wait so far. The only thing is that a YouTube comment spoiled the ending for me. Kinda angry about that, but it's still a great experience.
I'll do a thing eventually.

I sincerely hope you all enjoy the game as much as I did - it's not perfect, sure, but it's a damn fine game and one that is still worth the wait!

In the European version, the British people talked in British English and the people from Japanofornia spoke American English. I think it was a nice touch. Though this really does make the wait seem unnecessary.

They did this in the previous Layton game too. Their localization team doesn't seem to care as much. However, now they have an excuse as part of the game is in London... still.

I have to figure out how to get out of college and find a store with this game! I've been wanting to play this for so LONG! Way too long. Must. Get. It. Soon.

Why did Wright get a new voice actor? And could someone tell me if Luke has his North American voice? Thanks.

Wright has a different voice because the game was localized by a different company, probably right around the same time as DD was being localized. Shame there wasn't more communication between the companies, but what can you do.

I heard that it's the European Luke voice.

Urk. I really despise Luke's European Luke voice.
I'm having a hard time imaging why this game came out so far after EU got it... it appears that next to no localization has been done. I suppose the only reason was the odd gap between PL6 in EU and NA....

I'm convinced the delay was to avoid stealing Azran Legacy's thunder or having 2 Professor Layton games released a month-ish apart. (Not that it would have been a bad thing...)

Hmn.. I have seen small bits and pieces from the european version of the game, but not many story elements luckily stick out in my mind so I can say the game will be just as much of a surprise. Unfortuatly have to wait on a delayed amazon shipment(I can understand the delay, they have to get out all the 1-day shipping after all. I didn't get the 1-day shipping so I'm a bit lower on their priority list.

On the plus side gives me time to work on a few other things and wrap them up up in time so they're not lost as I'm sucked into the world of PLvsPW. Definitely looking forward to my copy though.

Glad it's finally out! Haven't started it yet; I will begin it tonight. I do wonder why Azran Legacy/Vs. weren't released in the US on the same schedule they were in other countries. Both games don't seem to have any major differences in localization (although Luke's voice was changed in Azran Legacy) so I'm not sure why both games had to come out at different times.

I actually don't mind Luke's European voice; I got used to it in The Eternal Diva and it didn't bug me that much (Emmy's non-game voice was much more noticeable to me).

It still seems crazy to me this game is finally out. When it was announced I hadn't been into Ace Attorney for a long time. In the 4 years since announcement (excuse the massive run-on sentence):
I sold my copies of the 4 GS games, then got a 3DS, then played and loved AAI, then I went and re bought the four GS games, then I realized there was a GK2 that I'd never play, then GS5 was announced, then the GS/GK manga was released, then I joined Court-Records, then I began to play the Layton games, then DD was released, then GK2 was localized and I WAS able to play it, then the new AA game was announced.

Looking back on it now, even though DD was more important to me because of the years of waiting for it, this game brought my attention back to the AA series (and got me interested in Layton) and got me excited about Ace Attorney again. So PLvsAA getting released is a milestone of the series for me personally, because it's because of this game that I began to "care" again. I probably wouldn't have even known that DD was announced if I hadn't been following news about this game back in 2012.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

Does someone here knows if the retail US version contains three languages (English, French, Spanish), as the eshop version apparently does ? I'm still waiting for my game to be delivered ; hopefully there's always DanganRonpa 2 to fulfill the wait o/

The retail and digital copies should function identically to one another, so they should still have the language options.

(I remember how excited I was when this came out in March... I bought my eShop cards the day before, and got up early and downloaded it straight away! :basil: )

I didn't see any language options in my retail version, but maybe it chooses language based on your system language. If that's how the eShop version chooses languages, I could check the retail version for you. I'd be surprised if the two would be different though.

I bought a physical copy in the US, and I didn't get an option for different languages either.

Ok, so I just tested it: if you change your system language to French or Spanish, the game language changes accordingly. Looks like even the voices are localized. Heh, even the logo model that appears when you select the game in the system menu changes.

Portuguese is not an option though; doing that just puts the game in English.
