This is actually very interesting. It tells us about some of the characters, and the issues with production of the first three GBA games. Some interesting things include:

- The class trial in episode 4 is based on something that happened to Mr. Takumi in real life when he was in 2nd grade.
- JFA was meant to have 5 cases, and its original case 4 became case 3 in T&T
- Jean Armstrong is gay:
Janet Hsu wrote:
"Jean is a typical “okama” character. At the time, the word “okama” was the generally used catchall word for an “effeminate-acting man”...
"Using all of the info we get about Jean in the game, the answer I came up with was that he is a gay, cis man who enjoys performing non-passing drag... Or to put it in a more concrete way, think Conchita Wurst."

- T&T's theme is meant to be “not everything is always what it seems on the surface”
- The reason Young Gumshoe is regular Gumshoe with a new coat in T&T was due to memory limitations on the GBA. (He was meant to have a cleaner look, with one side-spike, instead of the 2 :eh?: )
- "Klavier Gavin is not German, but he did study in Germany for a while"

That's some severe memory limitations, it would have been quite cheap to have such minor tweaks, most of the graphics could have been reused.

Grossberg only has 2 sprites in AA cuz of memory limitations.

It seems like we finally have some official info on this.

I loved reading through this article. It was great to get some insight into what was going on through the makers and localisation team's heads when they were putting together Ace Attorney. I have to say I love that they confirmed that AA was "headcanoned" to take place in an alternative universe to our own -- a theory I think we all share.

My favourite though is the confirmation that Klaiver is not actually German.

I'm really disappointed but at least his accent in DD makes sense now.

Thanks for posting this, looks like it'll be a fun read.

Klavier not actually having a accent makes sense.

Quote:
- “It could be said that the protagonist of AA1 is Edgeworth because, in a manner of speaking, ‘Turnabout Samurai’ exists for Edgeworth’s sake,” penned Mr. Takumi in an AA1 dev blog. “And then, with the theme of the [fourth] episode being ‘rekindling the relationship’, I tried to paint a picture of the intensely strong bond of friendship that two men can share, but I wonder if that’s what people got out of it? There seems to be those who would suggest that Phoenix and Edgeworth’s ‘intensely strong bond’ is more of an ‘intensely passionate bond’ of sorts...”

HE KNOWS

This was so fun to read, omg. The thing about Japanifornia makes me so happy. I also feel extremely vindicated that Klavier is not actually German, because I've been saying that for ages!

Also the Edgeworth sketches :hotti:

(And Xavier Barstucks. Can you imagine?)

He knows about Narumitsu ahhahaha I can finally sleep in peace after wondering that for years.

The fact that Klavier isn't German didn't exactly surprise me, but now I'm left feeling a bit disappointed. I've always thought that he and Kristoph were from Germany, and that's how I wrote all of my fanfiction. Goddamn.

I'm disappointed if Klavier is not German for some reason :( When I heard him speak in DD, I assumed he'd been in America for too long, or something... even his name means 'piano' in German.

It's actually confirmed that he is not German. If you click the link above you will see a blog post where of the main localizers directly stated that he was not German and that a line where Phoenix stated that his accent was affected was meant to show that but was too subtle.

Another interesting localization blog: http://www.capcom-unity.com/zeroobjecti ... e-attorney

The last bit is quite interesting, while it certainly doesn't confirm any future release or localization of the next game, it does imply that it's something she's thinking about:

Quote:
As for the future of this series in terms of its localization direction, I guess the final question that only you can answer for yourself is this: “Do you trust me as its localization director?”
