Court-Records is looking to make the second major overhaul in its history, and we need your help to do it! We’re currently working on a redo of C-R’s main site that aims to not only give a fresher look to the game content and coverage you know and love, but also gives the fandom a place to share, search, and discuss their fanworks and theories.

A big part of this redesign is filling in the content we haven’t covered yet, and to that end we’re looking for copywriters for the site. You’d be writing content for areas we’re lacking (primarily AAI2, DD, and PLvsPW), and likely doing some editing of older content. With AA6 coming up, we'll also need content for that once it's out.

Some questions and answers:

Q: What skills/experience will I need?
A: Strong writing and editing skills - English fluency is a must. Basic HTML formatting knowledge (how to start a new paragraph, how to bold text, etc.) is also required. As for the actual writing, the ability to summarize without getting too dry is what’s really key here.

Q: How much of this content would I be writing?
A: Depends on how many people we get. We've got one copywriter right now and that's nowhere near enough. The plan is that you'll work on things one page at a time. You'll be assigned a character profile or one part of a case synopsis to work on, and once you're done with that, we'll give you another thing to work on.

Q: Will I be expected to cover Dai Gyakuten Saiban?
A: Only if you speak fluent Japanese and volunteer.

Q: What is the timetable for this project?
A: At present, we don’t have a set date for this release. However, we will be doing our best to compartmentalize the work such that you’d only need to be taking part in the content writing and wouldn’t be bogged down by other elements (such as the site layout.) In other words, we hope this will only be a few months on your part, but that also depends on how many people become copywriters.

Q: Didn’t I see an ad like this about two years ago? And again a year ago?
A: This post's timestamp should be a dead giveaway. We've been hitting a lot of snags in getting everything together. We're almost always shorthanded and for the longest time, we haven't really had anyone managing this project to make sure everyone has something they're supposed to be working on.

Q: Is this a paid position?

A: Court-Records runs on a bit of a shoestring budget, so we can’t provide professional-level compensation; you’d be doing this for love of the series and some AA swag, like the rest of us. Sorry - we understand for a lot of people this is their job, and if you can’t do the work for financial reasons we don’t blame you. If you’re cool working like this, you’ll of course be credited on the site.

If you’re interested, please drop us a line at courtrecord@gmail.com (no, there’s no s in that) with a case summary of AAI2-1, Turnabout Target. By "summary," we mean both the “Edgeworth POV” (a description of the case as it happens in-game) and a “Villain POV” (a “how it happened” of the crime) - see our Cases page for examples. There is a fan translation out, and at least one YouTube channel has footage of it in its entirety, so you don't need to speak Japanese to be able to write a summary of this case.

When sending an application, do you include the url= and /url, or do you just send it to "mailto:courtrecord@gmail.com" ?

Just courtrecord@gmail.com

The url= thing is just a formatting issue, possibly due to the forum software not recognizing the mailto: format.

EDIT: and the clickable link in my post is just the forum recognizing an e-mail written straight out; no url tag required.

Sorry about that - I could have sworn there wasn't that issue when I posted it. It's been corrected.

When writing for AAI2, are the original Japanese names preferred? Or are using the English, fan-translated names allowed?

Original Japanese names would be preferred, but if you're only familiar with the fan translation names go ahead and use them - it's a simple find-and-replace after the fact.

How long do I have to write the AAI2 "Case 1" Article? I have played the game before but it's been well over a year since I last played it. I'll have to replay the entire case if I want to provide you with an accurate summary, which might take a while. I am really interested in being a copywriter so I wouldn't want this chance to go to waste.

As far as I'm aware, no deadline has been set, SamV. It's more a question of (if ever) we get so many copywriters that we don't need any more.

Been meaning to ask: Could I get a job that's not a case summary? I've specialized in finding name origins and such, so I'd like to help out with that.

We could even set up a page for notable version differences, though I suppose that's not as high a priority.

The case summary is the standardized entrance exam.

Well, hold on a moment Henke. While it's true the case summary is great for general-purpose writing checks, and the vast majority of the work is case/character summaries, Rubia's been running a blog dedicated to name and localization differences in Ace Attorney for a while now. We'll need people to handle that more specialized as well!

In other words - I'm fine with "waiving" the case summary for this work. We just need to organize how we'd be adding more detailed localization change info first...

Thanks, Bolt. Will I need to send these notes I have on my blog to court-record@gmail.com, or could I just keep them there for reference? I'll be posting notes for AJ, AAI, and GK2 (at least just the profiles) on there hopefully sooner than later. Hard to believe it's been more than a year since I last updated with anything related to it, but I really have been discouraged time and time again from returning to it, for several unrelated reasons. But the new CR may just revive my motivation again. Thank goodness.

I keep seeing this notice and feeling bad I'm not trying to help. Once my assessments are over I'll send in an email, and see if my writing skills are up to snuff.
I don't know HTML, but there's always google! So I could learn it.
