Ever wanted to see Ace Attorney music live, but don't live in Japan? Well, you're finally in luck! Capcom has announced a worldwide upcoming concert series in collaboration with Video Game Orchestra, and Ace Attorney is among the series that will be represented!

Capcom PR had this to say:

Quote:
At "CAPCOM LIVE!" attendees can enjoy live performances of game music from more than ten Capcom masterpieces dating from the 1980s up through the present day, all completely synchronized to HD visuals. In addition to the performance of "Video Game Orchestra"—a group that combines rock and orchestral music into "rockestral" concerts and boasts high notoriety in the US—the tour will pursue sophisticated entertainment via staging that weaves together visual effects and specialized lighting. This tour differs from events that have targeted only gamers by brining to life a forward-thinking musical project that can engage music fans and general audiences as well.

Kicking off with two public performances in China during March 2016, "CAPCOM LIVE!" will be held in North American cities such as Boston before expanding to other areas next year, with the goal of performing more than 30 concerts across the globe in places such as Japan, Europe, Central and South America and Asia.

Tour dates are available at the official CAPCOM LIVE site. Following two kickoff concerts in China, the first Western concert will be in Boston, Massachusetts in April.

This is real exciting news. The VGO always put on a great show, and I've been hoping for them to perform Ace Attorney for years.

Here's them doing Grandia (same composer as AA3 and AA5):

Here's them doing Street Fighter II (good example of their signature rock/orchestra hybrid style):

So far, it seems that Capcom LIVE has but one Western tour date in Boston, MA.

I certainly hope that Capcom LIVE comes to Pittsburgh, PA or somewhere nearby. :udgey:

Maybe with any luck there will be a recording of it.

In all honesty, I'm not a huge fan of a lot of the orchestrated versions of the songs, as I feel they lack the punch that comes with the "rock-ish" instruments that are featured. Some of them are amazing, though. I really love songs like the AA1 courtroom suite, Apollo's theme, Godot's theme, etc. but some of them like Gumshoe's theme really lose a lot in the transition.

I'd really love if they released an album where the songs were interpreted accurately using the same sound as DD: Lots of orchestrated but lots of rock and digital instruments too. Something along the lines of the Zelda Reorchestrated project which was around for a couple years would be great. I wonder how they'll interpret the songs here.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

VGO don't only use orchestral instruments in their performances. They know when and where to add some rock and digital elements.

I'd be more excited for this if they're actually coming to northern California, though. I'm not ready to cross the country just for that.

Yeah at that point I'd rather just buy the album and save some money. I went to the Zelda Symphony of the Goddess concert when it was in San Jose a couple years back and it was great but it was a decent amount of money (and that wasn't including the kind of travel expenses this would entail). And since this isn't a full-on AA concert but rather a Capcom one featuring AA I wonder how much AA music will actually be included.

But its good to hear that they have more varied instrumentation. I absolutely love orchestrated music but I find that the AA score benefits greatly from a nice 80's drumbeat and some synth once in a while.

Considering the press relese already mentions the concert features music from more than ten series, I'd guess one, perhaps two tracks (one of which perhaps a medley)?

(PxZ2 featured Itoshisa to, setsunasa to, kokoroduyaso to as a SF BGM, so this please :D)

This likely warrants a thread of its own, but given that it also involves producer Tommy Tallorico and a single Phoenix Wright track, may as well mention it here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/19 ... -and-movie

The fifth Video Games Live album (Video Games Live being a separate group from the Video Game Orchestra performing Capcom Live) is up on Kickstarter, and a Phoenix Wright medley is a confirmed disc track. You can get a sense of their version here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2ZvTkKOYuE

So if you were more interested in an album than a concert, this might be something worth looking at. A $10 pledge gets you the album, and they've already delivered on two successful kickstarters for their past two albums so there's no real risk.

Went to the show in Boston last night. Really great performances! I think if you went literally just for Phoenix Wright you'd be a bit sad, since they did only play one song from it. But it was a pretty great rock/orchestra medley that fit the tone of the series really well. Check out a video of it:

They also did some great Street Fighter stuff, surprisingly little Mega Man, and a surprisingly large amount of Okami, but the majority seemed to be less-familiar but still really enjoyable music.

Nice Mash up, thanks for the video. They even showed scenes from Dai Gyakuten Saiban, so it's not totally forgotten in the West.

Still, major feels.

The dude on the violin seemed to really be into it. That was nice to see.

Yeah, one of the major factors in my enjoyment of a concert is how much fun the band seems to be having onstage, and this group is one of my favorites because they always seem to be having a blast.
