Time for a totally unsubstantiated rumor! I didn't find this myself, it was linked to me, so I make absolutely no guarantees concerning its validity. But it's just too juicy not to share.

Heads up on the next issue of Famitsu

Perfect Prosecutor (DS/Capcom/??)
* A law adventure game where you act as the prosecutor.
* Main characters are Miles Edgeworth, Dick Gumshoe
* You control Edgeworth, searching for overlooked evidence and inconsistencies at the crime scene.
* New search and deduction systems are introduced.

Now...don't get your hopes up. But if you freak out just a little, I won't blame you.

Check back later this week to see if it proves true once the next Famitsu comes out.

EDIT: Famitsu isn't out yet, but JapaneseGIRL provided us with this leaked photo proving the rumor. The new game is called Gyakuten Kenji / Turnabout Prosecutor and does indeed star Edgeworth and Gumshoe in a point and click adventure.

On an unrelated note, I got my hands on some prizes for the OC contest: our three grand prize winners will be receiving a deck of Gyakuten Saiban playing cards. They probably aren't going to be in print for much longer, so keep sending in those entries to have a chance at one!

EDIT AGAIN: For those still wanting more proof that this isn't some kind of hoax, a full scan of the now released Famitsu article is up in the art section, along with several pieces of art taken from Capcom's Official GyakuKen Site. I've also updated the FAQ page and Staff page to reflect the new info.

But that's not all - Matsukawa still insists they have an announcement on the 20th in addition to the new Prosecutor game: there's still a chance we'll get some GS5 info!

Sounds fake to me. It even smells fake.

I mean, sure.... a prosecutor version game would be nice, but the Ace Attorney games have always been about defending your client. It's like, a tradition. Then you have many fans on the internet whining about how much they would like to see a prosecutor version, which would the perfect 'bait' for gullible fans. :P

You know, if you just flip the scenario, putting 'bad people' in jail works. It's just using a different scenario. Instead of defending the weak, you would be trying to defeat the bad guys who would get away with it, but truly deserve punishment. Or something. Just throwing that out there. Whatever the case, the subject we get the most debates out of is how it would play.

Agreed. Perfect Prosecutor is like a snuck-up von Karma.

If such a thing like this were to exist, I demand it be called Pro Prosecutor.

Edit: I know it is possible to have a prosecutor version, possible. But the defense attorneys have been the game's tradition. There's a difference.

You're... missing the point. It wouldn't be an Ace Attorney game. It would be a spinoff. That's like saying "Mario shouldn't have an RPG, after all, being a platformer is a tradition."

Normally I'd pass it off as fake myself, but this IS the month we're supposed to hear about NGNS~

In any case, I'd rather acknowledge the rumor here, than let it circulate without bringing it up.

Actually, you could even say that that's been the entire series so far - every case ends with your client getting pronounced innocent and the 'bad guy' getting sent to jail because you nailed 'em. I can see this as being very similar to AA, except without the "your client is innocent!" aspect. So basically this game won't have a safety net.

And you could go against a defense attorney who always defends guilty clients just to get paid. An interesting concept, if they decided to do it. We could also have an emotional torture case like 2-4, except you're trying to get an innocent person declared guilty, and because this is Edgeworth, you actually do.

This, of course, with the idea in mind that the game takes place before the Phoenix trilogy, so Edgey's never lost.

I object.

Spoiler: 2-4
Remember Matt? He was the bad guy. Think about it, Edgey faces against an EVIL defense lawyer who only defends the bad guys.

Evil defense lawyer: I have arose from the dead to battlw you, Mr. Worthy.
Edgeworth: At least I don't have a washing machine stuck to my face!

If this is supposed to take place in the AJ future, Edgeworth must wear glasses. There will be Austin Powers jokes. Not saying that this will even exist, but the Croik just made a good point about NGNS. (Saiban is roughly translated into 'court' however, so I still don't see how this spin off could be NGNS)

Yeah, yeah, I didn't think Matt needed mentioning. He's the exception to every GS rule. Besides, the bad guy still gets it in the end, so it's really unchanged even if it seems different.

also, lol washing machine

Seriously, if this is true...it's perfect. A spin-off game where you play as the prosecution. I always thought that the AA series was heavily biased against the prosecution. This fixes everything in an epic way.

Spoiler: 3-5
Investigating as Edgeworth in 3-5 was amusing as hell (and awesome).

I can only dream that the game takes place in the seven years between T&T and AA4. Maybe as Edgeworth, you deliver the only 3 (or 4) defeats to Kristoph Gavin's record and we get more backstory on the Gavins, where Edgeworth was during AJ, and maybe even what happened to Lana (a former prosecutor herself).

That would be so mind-blowingly incredible.

If this is real, it could be a very interesting concept. If it's mostly about two formerly-main characters and doesn't simply revolve around what happened in the first three games, it could make for some good character development. Especially if we get to see more of Gumshoe interacting with Edgeworth. :hobohodo:

Wait a darn moment.

Saiban can be roughly translated into court or trial, a game where you play as a prosecutor and prosecute in court.... means you prosecute in court. Gyakuten can be roughly translated into comeback or turnabout. Judging from the project's name, it would be a non-court related spin-off thing.

Ugh.

Super Judge Bro. beat me to the point, but "Gyakuten NOT Saiban" implies that there's no court involved. BUT... if you're playing as the prosecutor, I have to imagine that the courtroom will enter the storyline at some point during the game. I mean, what's the fun in finding evidence against the guy if you can't stick it to him in a court of law?

1BDI's Conclusion: If this rumor is valid, this project is probably not associated with NGNS.

Then, in the event that this is true, and NGNS really has nothing to do with a Court...

Then wouldn't that mean that we'll have this Edgey game, plus one more Gyakuten item coming our way?

Well, either:

A. "Gyakuten NOT Saiban" is something different than this entirely (i.e. there are two new AA-related things coming this month)

B. By "NOT Saiban" they don't mean there's no courtroom altogether but mean that court takes a backseat to investigation, interviewing people, doing forensics, talking to police, etc.

C. By "NOT" they didn't actually mean "Saiban's not gonna be there." It depends on what the meaning of the word is is. XD

Ah, but Udgey, IRL, defense attorneys don't go around using blowdryers on footprints and run everywhere looking for bowls of noodles and other decisive evidence :P They'd probably have Edgey doing similar stuff to what we've done in the first three in this game (with a different, unique spin on it, of course) XD

The prosecution has close ties to the police, remember. Without a doubt the prosecutors have full access to evidence stores and information files...which is what they need to build their case against a defendant.
