New detective game coming out

I was looking to see what's coming up for releases on the DS and saw that a game called Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles is coming out sometime in June. Has anyone heard about it or if it will be sort of like Hotel Dusk? It would be super cool if it was!

Wow, Jake looks like a cross between Larry Butz and Max Payne. The game looks cool, but I don't think it's related to Hotel Dusk because it's made by Aksys, not Cing.

No, this has absolutely no relation to HD XD

Good character designs, but the appearance of this game is BEYOND extremely outdated, it looks like a Playstation game from 8+ years ago.

And the music screams SNES quality =X

Good concept, but it looks to be poorly executed on the visual/sound side.

Really? I thought the graphics looked quite good, myself. On par with Apollo Justice and Trauma Centre. Maybe even a little better.

The characters and locations are gorgeous, but its an outdated style. It screams 90s game... that and the darn menus/dialouge boxes.

I mean, come on, couldn't they have done at least a little bit better? For the trailer? Which probably isn't going to be shown on an SNES?

I like good game music and graphics of course, but what I really play a game for is more of the game play and characters. I loved Hotel Dusk's and Phoenix Wright's game play and characters. I'm hoping this new game is on par with those things. :fingers crossed:

Just so you guys know, the Japanese name is Tantei Jinguuji Saburou, and it's a 20-year-old series of visual novel/adventure that started on the Famicom Disk System. :3

A friend of mine is piss-happy about this, though not about the English name. xD

That friend got me into reading Dashiell Hammett's novels. :0 Hardboiled mystery is the category of those books, as well as the Jinguuji games.

Japan must really like noir. :0

Hmm putting that at the end is a bit odd, but it does explain what Nintendo Power meant by "menu-based fisticuffs" ... for a while, I thought fisticuffs meant handcuffs, and then I saw the same word in one of the novels I'm currently reading and so I looked it up ... it means fistfight. xD

It reminds me of the battle sequences in Radical Dreamers, which I think is an awesome game ... though I get lost in that game a lot. xD

I'm thinking about getting it too, but I'd like to wait to hear how other people like it. Maybe you could post your opinion on it if/when you get the game and play it? If it's even a little like AA, I'd be sold on it! :will:

They should release this detective game here in the US...

Keiji JB Harold no Jikenbo: Satsujin Club

*This game acts almost like Hotel Dusk in a way. And the setting of the game takes place in Washington DC. However, we did got this in english as "JB Harold in Murder Club" that was released for the Turbografx CD in 1991. (English voices were horrible) This DS version is a remake.

So far reviews are a little low (so far I have only read from Game Informer and Nintendo Power).

Characterizations kind of bland, and localization could have put more effort into the translation ...

I'm pretty sure the Jinguuji Saburou games are very good ... we just have to take into account that the localization didn't to a very good job.

I don't know if there are extras ... the one in Japan had 5 cases from previous games, plus a new one for the DS, as well as 6 Chibi-cases.

Maybe Konami should remake Snatcher, while this is going on ....

I enjoyed the game, I finished Episode 1 in 2 hours from starting it. I'm assuming the game isn't that long to beat. But man, did I catch some grammar errors and spelling errors.

For example. "I looked at the message on the sell phone" Really? I thought that they should've caught those errors in the first place.... I for one am not bothered by them, but at least give a good effort in it...

I like it, and if you want to hear a full review, you guys can see my review of the game when I complete it. I'll post it up somewhere, just where would depend on where you browse <_<;

So far, yes only 3 Episodes. If there is a bonus one I don't know, depends on what secrets the game holds. There is a password system for, I'm assuming, unlocking stuff. But so far from playing episode 1 I got no passwords... unless those 4 letter clues I found during episode 1 where said passwords... hm.... -thinks and goes to replay episode 1 again for investigate-

i mean if your on the edge of getting it then i wouldnt honestly. its not like HD at all D8

- when your not dont searching somewhere, your not allowed to leave. -__- so it kind of can take some of the fun out of it. like...its telling you if youve found eveything...i didnt really like that D8
- not as interesting stories. not as good as HD or PW
-the characters are all not that well drawn in my opinion... :sadshoe:

more realistic but, not as well drawn (In my opinion) as HD or PW (and their not animated)

the one thing i DID like about the game was the cases were much more realistic than PW or HD like they could actually happen in Real life...that was one good point that i liked about the game

That title's actually actively got my attention. Generally time travel/abuse stories make excellent mystery games. It still depends on the writers doing their job, but I'm plotting on getting it. If not on release then Christmas.
