Post subject:  Re: Most annoying/hated character?

I would have to say that Summer was the most annoying, then it would be Dylan.

Summer obviously because of his 'speeches' that just go on and on and on.

Dylan isn't so bad, but he was still annoying. He just kept appearing infront of Hyde, like a had a mancrush on him or something like that and he's always saying
"So what did you and ________ talk about?"
"Was that ______ you were just talking to?"
"So I heard _________?"
"Can you tell me about __________?"
Spoiler: (Big spoiler) And then at the end...
...you find out he is some spy for Nile.

But all characters were all awesome in their own way.

For some reason, Marie was annoying. That puzzle when

was the most retarded thing ever. And while she was tragic, I didn't really like how sappy Kyle got while talking to her.

Eh, it hearkened back to the puzzle in Hotel Dusk where

And to be honest, I did nothing for quite a while, and

Oh here goes then.

Hotel Dusk:
- Actually, none.
At first I didn't like Jeff and thought he would be just an annoyer, but in the end, far before "cross examinationing him" he seem'd pretty OK dude.
Am I one of the few that didn't hate Melissa at all?!

Cape West:
- ...sigh...Marie and Dylan.
I didn't like Marie at all, though even I had to give some sympha..ti....tion (?) points to her.
And Dylan...First time we see him I thought: ...yippee...THE fat annoyer character....
First he was OK, but after he kept asking the same things all and over again...It was...rrrrRRRGHHH!
Serieously...It has been the only time ever I actually wanted to shoot my DS with an shotgun or somethig!! O__O

for HD I didn't hate any characters though I always wondered why they added in the whole Martin and Helen plot since it had absolutely nothing to do with Bradley, or NILE, or anything regarding the plot like pretty much all the other characters. And I always imagined Summer sounding like Comic Book Guy for some reason.

I also wonder why Iris was the only one you couldn't say goodbye too at the end... Least I never saw her.

as for LW I hated Will White at first until Hyde broke him down then I found him understandable, but Dylan.... man I thought the guy was pretty cool at first but then he turned into this creepy douchebag. I was kinda hoping we'd get some kinda "punch Dylan in the face" mini game or something. Would have served him right if Hyde had belted him in the nose.

@ Tomoshibi:
Spoiler:
Summer introduced Osterzone to the plot. Other than that, his/Helen's story is more or less a side-story in the game, except not optional. you could say the same thing about Jeff - other than escorting Mila to Hotel Dusk and having a father with ties to Nile, he's completely irrelevant.

Post subject:  Re: Most annoying/hated character?

I'm replaying LW right now and...

Spoiler:
Damn, Dylan is the biggest troll I've ever seen in a video game. First he earns the player's respect by saving Kyle's ass a couple of times but as soon as he hears the word "detective" he immediately turns into an annoying creep. But that's all I thought he would be, annoying. Thinking back, I probably should have suspected him since the other tenants clearly don't trust him. Since he was cool to me I thought he just made a bad first impression on them. But he collects rare stones, has a drawing of the Condor in his notebook, a puzzle of Osterzone's angel painting and his constant eavesdropping grows increasingly suspicious after a few chapters. Yet something kept me from distrusting the guy.

And when it turns out he's a mole from Nile, everything suddenly makes sense. It's like the developers are laughing at how stupid you are. Dude manages to get away with the last laugh as well.

Jeff, definitely. He reminded me of :wellington: . Summer reminded me of :grossburg: and :redd: , but I got used to him after a while. Dunning kept talking about kicking me out whenever I saw him. Iris reminded me of Dahlia Hawthorne from Phoenix Wright, DeNonno was fun, and Eyepatch Lady was a little too nice, and I thought it was an act. The worst, however, was Dylan.
Spoiler:
Hey Kyle, detective blah blah blah, who were you talking to blah blah blah, I'm blatantly a spy for Nile blah blah blah.

I think the only one I really hated was Dylan. I mean, you're just mindin' your own business (well, not really, but still), and suddenly...
"HEY. HEY KYLE. WHATCHA DOIN? OH MY GOD HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I LOVE DETECTIVES? OKAY I'M JUST GONNA FOLLOW YOU FOR AN UNCOMFORTABLY LONG TIME NOW"

I thought Charles was a bit of an ass at first, but now he's one of my favourites.

I've never played LW...cuz it was never released in north america (i'm trying to watch it online though!)

but for Hotel Dusk? Definitely Martin Summer. He drove me insane, and reminded me of Redd White :redd: . I kinda wanted to punch them both in the face.

Post subject:  Re: Most annoying/hated character?

In Hotel Dusk, possibly Martin Summers. I can't really remember much though, haven't played the game in ages.

In Last Window, easily Dylan.

Spoiler: Dylan
At first, he just came off as annoying. But throughout the game he gets creepier and creepier. I barely even cared when he saved me from the lift. The creepiest moment though is when he's just stood outside Marie's room. It gives me the creeps. His epilogue annoys me so much too, what with basically getting away with everything. I didn't want him to die, but I wanted him to get at least some punishment.

Post subject:  Re: Most annoying/hated character?

Regarding Hotel Dusk, I like the marjority of the characters, however there are three that I just don't like.
First one is Kevin Woodward; he's a complete douchebag and the way he treats Melissa is just awful. However, I give him some leeway due to the events that led to him being in the hotel in the first place.
Second is Helen Parker. She seems like such a sweet old lady, but she's just a lazy fool. You have to help her do every single freaking thing and she just keeps asking, stupid task after stupid task. During her story, I just hate how she CAN'T STOP saying how much of a fool she was and all that. Okay, granny, we get it! You suck! No need to repeat it 6 times in one single confession!
And last but not least, everyone's favourite, Martin Summer. I don't really need to explain why.

As for Last Window, the only ones that annoyed me were Dylan and Mrs. Patrice. Frank, Tony and Betty gave me a hard time at first, but as the game goes on they turn out to be quite likeable, while Will White, someone who many people dislike, was actually a very good "anti-hero" in my opinion. Dylan, on the other hand, starts off real nice (and I mean, like, the veeeeery first time you talk to him and nothing more) and becomes a pain in the ass. And I'm not even talking about creepy 'cause with that dumb face, the only thing he would creep would be a pigeon. Will White's sudden appearance on 306 was way more creepy.
Mags also starts off nice, even if she is a bit demanding over the whole rent issue. However, her constant "inviting-Kyle-to-chat" like she's hitting on him and then suddenly getting all cagey over her past after making Kyle talk about his pissed me off. If that wasn't enough, she decides to play villain and screws Kyle over and over, resorting even to assault. Then, at the end, she gets down on her knees, screams, cries, throws up, dies and revives only to say "I don't need help" to Kyle when he offers her his hand. Also, she's a woman who falls in love with a criminal, is very aware of it, gets betrayed by him, is very aware of it again, and even then lives her life like a freaking love slave. Hate women like her.

I think Al the chicken man Martin and Jeff tie for my least favorite. Scumbag and whiny rich kid. <<

For awhile, I really hated Kevin Woodward. Suspected him of cheating on his wife until I found out his story...then I was like D: You poor man! Can I hug you?

Two words: Jeff Angel. Annoying, whiny little brat who honestly deserved a good ass kicking. Especially....

Spoiler:
When he runs to Dunning and tells him that you broke into Room 217 if you don't get him out of the hallway before you go in.

God I wanted to punch him so bad. Oh, and is it any more obvious that he only picked up Mila just so he could get in her pants?

Oh, and Iris. She was a stuck up bitch for sure.

The other characters didn't really annoy me. I found Martin Summer amusing in an odd sort of way, and Kevin Woodward did annoy me at first but he wasn't that bad. The way he looks always reminded me of the stereotypical 70's TV dad.

I kept thinking he was going to come around the corner sometime and just try to shoot Kyle, like he was really someone working for Nile. I would have preferred that to how they handled him because he was just a whiny kid. I thought there would have been something below the surface but there wasn't.

I actually have issues with how many of the characters were handled, rather than issues with the characters themselves. I never really felt any danger in Hotel Dusk, although I think that's just because of the nature of the gameplay. I think Hotel Dusk could make a great movie but it would have to change up a lot of stuff and make things a little less light and a little more action-y, although I don't mean like tons of gunfiights and explosions. I just mean have it be more of a thriller.

Post subject:  Re: Most annoying/hated character?

Hmmm.... a toughie. While a great many characters got on my nerves at some point or another, they all felt so human, so vulnerable, so REAL that I couldn't really hate them. That said, if I had to a pick a few, it'd be these guys:

1. Dylan: Sorry Dylan; you were cool at first, seeming like just another run of the mill guy who was a little awkward but had a good heart. Then you started stalking Kyle, being annoyingly inquiring and then you turn out just to be some Nile lowlife. Because this guy ends up working for what could arguably be considered the story's antagonist, I can't give him much love.

2. Martin Summer: I understand why he does what he does; the guy failed at his dreams, and he wanted another shot at glory. However, that does NOT justify ruining another man's life; particularly when that man's life happens to be your best friend. I'm glad he has a spirit of repentance and all that, but his dirtbag actions combined with his being annoyingly talkative essentially ALL the time makes him by far my least favorite HD character.

3. Iris: To be fair, she's not all THAT bad. However she is stuck up, scandalous (posing for a nudie mag? Does NOT make her any more appealing to me... does the contrary in fact) and a major princess. I can put up with her, even sympathize with her in some moments, but I can't just like her all that much in the end.

Iris and Dunning were the most annoying to me, but I don't dislike anyone. Melissa was very annoying at first as well. And I guess that I should've found Jeff annoying, but I really liked him. No idea why actually. And oh, Rachel going "sweetie" and "handsome" all the time annoyed me as well.

Pretty much. I also aspire to be a writer someday so what he did seemed especially scummy in my perspective. Maybe if I was a parent or a child who was abandoned by a parent, I'd hate Mrs. Parker, too. If it helps, I thought he was annoying before the plagiarism revelation

I actually didn't mind Jeff like others have. Sure, he's a spoiled, whiny brat, but he's just a kid and he actually grew a pair in the end

I fully well know what it's like to have a close friend who likes the same things you do, but he exceeds at everything much more than you do yourself, so I could completely sympathise with Summer's feelings on the subject, but what he did was absurd. I love to hate him, i guess he was a "what-if" scenario for if your darkest ideas had turned into reality.

I mean, think about it, you're a person who's forced to accept that the thing you like doing the most is something you'll never be good at, and meanwhile you're looking at others who seem to have a natural talent for it, like it was nothing. I thought it was extremely well-written and it sat in my mind for days, but it also made me realize that it's probably something a lot of us go through when it comes down to it. In case you're wondering it's mostly to do with math, and also strategy games in my case, so it's not as serious. But darn it, how I still wish I could beat my pal in chess!!!

Post subject:  Re: Most annoying/hated character?

That is at least one good thing about the characters in the game - they're not seperated in good/bad or friend/foe. They all made some bad choices in their lives, but not for the sake of being jerks but because they were afraid or envious etc. (I don't remember it all right now) Basically that kind of stuff most people think or at least want to think they'd never fall to themselves, but many probably would at least consider in the same situations.

Putting that aside, Summers seemed pretty much made to be dislikes the way he kept showing up and talking to no end. And Jeff, I don't quite get the hate for him either. I liked his character development. One reason I have a softer side against him though might be that I still feel a little bad about our first encountering when he seemed a bit down and I chose the option where you bitch at him for being in the way instead of asking what the matter was. (Then again he kind of made up for that by being a bitch himself the next time I met him)

Yes, Summers was definitely written to be unlikable. God, I love Kyle Hyde's quote "What, did this guy swallow a dictionary or something?" because Summers is always so overly formal and indirect.

Pretty much. While I hated Summer, he did feel like a realistic character to me and I could understand his mistake. And linkenski, I also compared myself to someone else at some point in a different situation so I do kind of feel his pain in that situation. I didn't act on it, but I'd be lying if I said I never thought about terrible things

The Summer/Alan situation actually feels like the setup to an AA case with either Summer killing Alan/Dan as a coverup or Alan killing Summer in revenge

I love the fact that Kyle took no shit from anyone. One of my favorite lines (and I can't remember it exactly) is when he asks for the pen back from Summer and he basically says,
"Give me the pen"
"Ok. I don't know if I should ask this but..."
"You're not getting it back"
*dejected* "Ok"

I kind of liked Summer at first but then I lost all respect for him after learning his secret. Especially since I like doing the idea of him being a mystery novelist and all.

Jeff was pretty annoying too but hey he barely appeared that much in the game so it's fine. Same goes for Melissa.

Overall though my least favourite is FRIGGING IRIS SHUT THE HELL UP. I like how even Kyle got sick of her crap. She got a little better at the end I guess but not by much.
