It's annoying how it can be hard sometimes to know what you have to do next.

Spoiler: Very minor spoilers
Covering a pen in chalkdust isn't exactly the most obvious thing in the world.

I thouroughly agree! Tbh I had to get help with that part. Twas stupidly hard. And there were times when it was just impossible to know where to go next.

It was stupid hard! I mean come on, closing the DS! How do you think to do these kinds of things! And pulling two levers at once! Graaaaaaaaa! But it was still a good story, and the rumble was nice to have.

Edit: This is a nice forum theme.

I managed the closing the DS thing quite easily, but the two levers I didn't think were possible...

Yes, it was kind of crazy. To beat it in four days, I had to play it wherever I went. On vacation with my dad and stepmom, I hardly ever put it down. I would play it in restraunts and everywhere else XD
Spoiler: mild
You could also use the flour in the kitchen :). A second playthrough taught me that.

The pen took me almost a day to figure out, I thought I had to get someone to read it or something!!
Closing the DS and flipping both switches at the same time to me right then and there. Closing the DS was so awesome though, who knew that just closing a DS would be so epic.

I couldn't figure out how to read the pen, I had to look it up..
With closing the DS, I ended up closing it and setting it down 'cause I was frustrated, so it kinda ruined the coolness of it. ,:D
And it didn't take me too long to notice that you flip both switches. =/

I completed about a half of this game through walkthrough.
I'm not too motivated. :P

I really couldn't be bothered to work out how to get out of that room where you find out HE is Osterzone. I used a walkthrough after one attempt.

My problem with the swiches was I had to try and flip them both at the same time! (At least, that was what I was told.)

You have to admit, though, that using the idle function from closing a DS as a [art of the game is pretty friggin' clever. While frustrating when it doesn't click to you initially, it's like OH SHI - when you do it.

To hell with your levers.

The pen was dreadful, had to look it up, and even after that it never really clicked in my mind. The closing the DS, while a masterful piece of art, was mentioned in a review of Hotel Dusk somewhere and thus spoiled for me. =/

Two switches were noticed decently quickly, but they were still hellish to flip. I started turning the DS around and trying to flip from various angles, although I'm sure that did absolutely nothing. I did get it when the touch screen was facing away from me, though. =D

Just a question, how did you guys bowl?

Bowling and closing the DS had me stumped. The two levers...well, I could swear that louie tells you to pull them both, so...well, I got it quickly.

Bowling was definitely the hardest. The bell puzzle at the beginning was a real toughie as well. The pen thinkg had me a little confused...

The one that REALLY got me stuck though, was finding the wine bottles. I didnt pay attention while Rosa was telling you to find them, so after she walked away I had absolutely NO idea what the hell I was supposed to do. Stuck for HOURS.

It took me about 18 hours to do, without help. Some parts were complete "O_O?" though.
And with the bowling...XD.
It took me four tries to win a single game.
But yes, it was still epic.

but anyways, I did hate the bowling... But I got it after a while... And the guy really scared me when you're walking with Mila at night, and get caught. I was like OH MY GAWD! It was just surprising... Didn't see it coming... That's what I egt for not listening to Rosa, hehe...

The pen was simple for me. I made the connection pretty fast, since I used to love doing that sort of stuff when I was kid. And where the hell do you get chalk from? I used the flour the first time anyway :/

For some reason, I was REALLY stumped at the time when Jeff came out of the Staff-Only Rooms and I had to find the gun.

Also, with the locked room part towards the end of the game, how did you guys read the number in invisible ink? I turned my DS to the side and saw the number (the colours are oh-so slightly different). Later I found it would possible to use the black light...

I didn't really find any of the puzzles that difficult. The only one I had problems with was the switches and bowling. Other than that all of the puzzles were fairly easy for me.

I used the flour instead of the chalk dust =X Took forever to figure something out

And yes, despite it being the most EASIEST thing to do, flipping the puzzle over with the DS was acctually hard to figure out, I kept moving and clicking and shut it while I went to the bathroom, came back and it was done :beef:

I'd often use two stylus with Trauma Center to cheat with tool grabbing, so when I got to the switches I just thought: "Well, the real way of doing this is probably more intricate, but I'm lazy so I'll use two, durrrr."
And that's how I did it.
But what got me was...
BOX. BOOKMARK. RAAARR.

I didn't even realize that until I used two styluses to flip both switches (which I didn't even think would work, but Kyle did say he always used both hands, so...), which I thought to do after I tried everything else I could think of. XD

The pen was the only thing that had me stuck long enough to ask for help, though. The flour looked important, but I doubt I would've thought to use it for that.

The ones where you have to close the DS... well, I remembered that from Trace Memory. :P

With the bowling, you have to sort of carefully guide the ball down the center, not just roll it as hard as you can. Too bad my psychic bowling powers didn't work as well in the game as in real life. XD

The basement... I'd gotten familiar with that sort of scenario in old text games *coughhitchhiker'sguidetothegalaxycough*, but actually figuring out what to do is always tricky because you have almost no room for mistakes. But I refused to get help because in this particular scene, that would've detracted from the experience. The paper was easy, though, because invisible ink + blacklight that I hadn't used yet... yeah. :P

Ohmigosh, I felt soo stupid! I thought I was the only one who didn't get that! Honestly, I just couldn't put two-and-two together.

The chalk thing I didn't get right away, either. I felt kinda silly, lol. I also didn't know how to access the stuff...

The lever and closing DS I got right away. I think they tell you to lift both levers, and since I was used to the idea of using two styluses (same reason: Trauma Center), I just did that. Actually, I was too lazy to do that; I used a stylus and my finger, lol.
I was used to another game where you had to close your DS, so those parts didn't phaze. I almost didn't get the second time you have to close it, though, lol.

The hardest part was when you hade to find the gun in the Linen closet. How hard can it be to wrap up a piece of sheet?

Hard? Hotel Dusk?

Well, I admit the pen was a bit difficult. I had already heard of the ds-closing trick in other games, and the switch puzzle came to me pretty quickly. How could anyone find ringing the bell difficult though?

I had to use a walkthrough to figure out the pen, but I didn't use a walkthrough for any other part!!

I brute forced the levers :P (Louie told me to try both about 20 times)

And I knew the closing the DS thing b/c I played Trace Memory first :P ("Hm... to do CPR their lips need to touch and--Oh, right.")

I got stuck a couple of times, often not the at the puzzles at all, I feel they could have placed a lot of the items and characters in clearer places. Like Dunning being in the resturaunt of all places.
In terms of puzzles, I got stuck on the switches puzzle, simply because I knew that the DS couldn't register two different areas being pressed at once. I was also stuck on the coat hanger puzzle because I assumed that the wire would have to be bent in some way to allow picking.

I found most of the "harder" puzzles fairly easy, as I'd helped a friend with Another code a few years back. I was kind of suprised just how many puzzles they'd recycled.

I used a walkthrough for most of the game XD. I got stuck on the closing of the DS for long enough that I was like "Screw it, I'm looking it up" I had problems with the switches, everytime I tried, it just didn't work out. Still, it was entertaining to see me stabbing the DS. XD

Hiya! First time posting here, but was so interested in this forum, I had to register.

Things that bugged me:

- Seriously. The bookmark. It annoyed the frick outta me, and that led to me reading the walkthrough.
- Getting caught by Dunning with things I couldn't have with me, like
Spoiler:
the crowbar, cash, screwdriver, red box, etc., etc.
THREE times.
- Doing fine with the conversation until I say the second wrong thing, and getting kicked out...before I saved! That annoyed me the most. I had to go through several conversations to get back to where I was.
- Basement...kept wanting to file the scissors instead of the other thing. :)
- Coin puzzle.

Amazingly enough, I won at bowling the first time around.

i spent a lot of time on that bookmark. and had to use a walkthrough on the pen thing.

and the ds is technically incapable of registering two touches at once with its resistive touchscreen, you just have to flip the switches really fast.

Ugh, the coin puzzle...That made me feel really stupid!
Bowling...yeah...I had to use a ruler just so I could get the ball to roll straight.

BOOKMARK OF THE BOX. I SPENT ROUGHLY HALF AN HOUR ON THE DARNED THING. I TAPPED EVERY INCH OF EVERY SIDE OF EVERY ANGLE AND I DIDN'T FIND IT.

OMG you too? I was tapping that cursed box for ages before the bookmark even peeked out. It certainly did try my patience.

Too true. Did anyone else try to whack the damned box with a crowbar?

Anyway, I didn't use a walkthrough but there were some parts where I got insanely stuck.
Spoiler:
In the basement at the end, I thought the 'blank' sheet of paper was another red herring so I left it alone and tried EVERY CAESAR SHIFT UP TO TEN. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but when you die ten times in the exact same way only with a different string of jibberish coming out of the machine every time, it REALLY. GETS. ON. YOUR. NERVES.

I didn't have too much trouble with the switches thing, since I figured out whilst playing Pokemon Diamond that if you put your stylus on one end of the screen and your finger on the other you can polish all the badges at once. =)

I was wandering around with the pen for a while, knocking on all the doors and so forth. Did anyone else not realize they could write down what they had to do next in the memo and came to a dead end every single time they started the game?

Spoiler:
I NEVER figured out the closing-the-DS thing until my sister played it through and marvelled at its awesomeness. When flipping over the jigsaw I just tapped the screen and had to rearrange it later, so saving Mila was insanely hard for me - I actually, uh, put my face to the DS screen was Rosa was like "YOU MUST PUT YOUR FACE NEXT TO HERS!" Yeesh, I feel stupid for that now.

I remember I finally "gave up" on saving Mila and closed the DS to go get something to eat, and of course, when I came back, she was alive. Aaargh...I wanted to throttle her so much for that. Still do, actually.
