She'd be legal in America, yes, but the official age for adulthood in Japan is 20. That's what I meant by "underaged".

On the other hand, she has been to America before. I'm not sure if she's from America or Japan, but either way to Nick, she's really young and spunky... like the many assistants preceding her. Uh, Nick, it's not a fetish in any way, right? 'Cause you ain't Edgey.

Because nick is a pimp (poor idiotic manipulatable person)
Although it is true that quite that being a 20 year old lawyer was enough to be considered feared or respected, but now it seems commonplace.
And having the majority of the female characters being either teen agers or young women seems commonplace now as well. But now in 3D

At least Kokone will (presumably) act with maturity beyond her years, unlike the unbroken string of bratty teenagers we've had for 6 consecutive games :yuusaku:

Yes hopefully, although by looking at the way she acts in the AA5 live stage show it seems she also has a youthful disposition although being able to keep a calm, collected persona too.

Seeing as how Phoenix's serious personality from GS4 will take a 180 back to his partially-serious and partially-goofy self from GSs 1-3, there needs to be a mature character around him (the purpose of a pair; one complements the other). Of course, Maya/Pearls/Trucy/Kay weren't mature, but they made Wright look like one.

Yeah, but there are reasons.
Maya could take liberties as she was like a little sister to Phoenix, and we followed her through to maturity at the end of T&T.
Pearls was serious due to her formal upbringing and had a naivete to the modern world.
Trucy is Phoenix's adopted daughter and therefore probably picked up his goofy side before he became smug.
And Kay is useless as she was only with edgeworth for the female assistant role as comic relief went to gumshoe. and her bipolar attitude contrasted both of theirs.

That goes into more details as to the fact that the pairs complement each other. But yes, even though they're "immature", there's a purpose for that, but in the end, they're suppose to mature, or as others would put it, character development.

It's not the skirt that is bothering me. It's just her changed appearance and attitude that seems to appear with the shortness of that skirt. Why couldn't she really be a 22 year old lawyer, with a kneelength, tight skirt?

Oh, Kay wasn't bipolar. It was just a joke.

And Maya matured throughout GS1-GS3. You know, dealing with her own feelings of inadequacy and the drama her aunt and cousin caused, and later concluding there were more important things in life besides running away from it all...like being strong for her remaining family.

Thank you Ms. Andrews, that is exactly what i meant by her maturing throughout the series.

As for the whole "Kay is bipolar" thing i guess i should have been a bit more concise in which her personality does a complete 180 at points in the story, for example, When confronting Calisto after she is revealed to be shih-nah, Kay is perfectly cheerful and smiling. yet when confronting Alba she becomes all solemn and serious. yes i know this is about her fathers murder but i t makes no sense she would smile around her fathers killer.

But anyway
back on topic of the new game. Kokone's look isnt that bad, even if she does where a miniskirt at least she wears leggings or tights so that its not to much of a suggestive outfit, plus unlike most of the other female characters ( :two-faced: :peal-mia: :youngmia: :mia-maya: :april: ) at least her chest isnt exposed to any degree. Mia was the worst on this account, since being a lawyer she shamelessly showed waaay too much cleavage. At least kokone's "sugestive" clothing is below the level of the defence's bench.

I love the comic, and appreciate that the tangent had slid to phoenix's partners from previous games, but i think i need to pull it back to the original subject of the new designs of the game and its characters.

I know, its a lot more dramatic than the 2D games. Although by the way he swings it across his body rather than raising his had makes it seem more like the "Superobjection" from T&T or the trailer reveal for PLvsAA

That reminds me, why are all the female assistants throughout the series at least 7 years apart from the main character? It's almost as if Capcom is implying something with them.

On the other hand, young female protagonists tend to be more appropriate for fanservice. Maybe 7 is Nick's lucky number?

Necro! Yay!

Ok, so I was watching the AA5 stage show presentation (and reading the translation), and I noticed something:
According to the translation, Kotone (or whatever she's called) called Phoenix "Chief" at one point. Combining that with the fact that throughout the investigation part she constantly refered to him as "Sir" and "Mr Wright", rather than something more informal (Nick), it leads me to the idea that, maybe, rather than being Phoenix's partner or babysitter, Phoenix could be her mentor, being Kotone's Mia basically.

And that leads me to another facinating thought: What if Kotone is the lawyer for the first trial?
We know from the previews that the bombing case will have an investigation phase, which means that, assuming the Junior team (AkA the AAI team) kept to tradition, it can't be the first case. What if the first case it the case the bomb goes off in, and Kotone is the attorney up untill that point, with Phoenix as the assistant (like Mia, or Grossberg, or Kristoph... but without the whole murderer thing, obviously).

Wouldn't that be an interesting idea?
