Post subject:  Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (First Beta Sent Out)

Hello guys. I am making a fancase for the PyWright engine. It's name is Draco Pitelli and it features new characters, places and (hopefully) new soundtrack.

As well has having the Magatama and Perceive Bracelet, Draco Pitelli has his own "power": To see the exact moment of an event through another person. It kind of works as a " look into people's minds" kind of thing. It was inspired by Ghost Trick's 4 minutes before death. And yes, these powers are ALL usable in court and in the investigation scenes.

Anyway, below you can find the individual Turnabout and their status. I know I said in my very first post I'd wait til I'm 50% done with the first case, but then I realized I need help. Eheh :sillytrucy:

Spoiler: "Turnabout Cuisine (temp name)"
PLANNING: 0%
GRAPHICS: 0%
CODING: 0%
STORY: Rookie defense attorney Draco Pitelli makes his debut behind the defense bench in a murder trial, where somebody was shot with a sniper rifle, and the other person with him is a suspect in his murder. Is this case as simple as it seems?

PLANNED RELEASE: At least a month.

I need your help, Court Records! I can do sprites (though the ones I have now are a bit rushed and are just made to be placeholders), but I am asking you guys for help:

Beta Testing: I'm an OK bug-squasher, but there are some things that I can't figure out how to fix (like that stupid "undefined court_record button at line 0" error), so being a beta tester means you hopefully know how to fix these errors.

Soundtrack Composer: Now, sadly, I am NOT a music composer. I can't even make a half decent rhythem. I am learning how to, though, so yey! :sillytrucy: Anyway, I just need Allegro and Moderate Cross-Examination themes, Defendant Lobby, Pursuit and Trial start music. Hopefully I'll learn how to make my own music. Ace Attorney style preferred.

You: For support, crazy theories, ideas, discouragement, etc. Just be normal :-)

does it work like a "next-level" perceive?

Hmm...yes AND no. The thing is, when Draco does this he's in the eyes of whoever he's "focusing" on. That being said, even inaniamte objects can be important clue givers.

Dang it, I was hoping to make a sane lawyer and now I have a lawyer that can stare down plants to find out what happened. :-)

I'm still thinking of a name for it.

Edit: huh. The first board I've been on that ddidn't have strikethrough.

Sorry for doublepost. Yes I do know the Edit Button exists, but this is for anybody that has "SSubscribed" to this thread. I have started semi official Draco Pitelli art.

Image

I know he isn't the right size for an AA game, I'll resize him. Anyway, thoughts? I didn'tgo too far into shading yet.

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Nice to see you're trying to make your own sprites XD

What jumps a lot is the size of the head. The proportions would look jarring if you're using canon or frankensprites with it. I can give suggestions for improving it but where do you think you are on the "barely serviceable game asset" to "serious AA art" kind of scale?

Edit: Can't read it said "semi-official art" sorry XD Didn't mean to misinterpret but I'm still open to giving feedback XD

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Yeah, I'll resize his head down a bit before resizing the rest of his body. I think I have the perspective completely wrong, too, so I'll go in and fix that. And Idid this entirely from scratch, no frankenspriting!

Author:  mercurialSK [ Wed Jul 22, 2015 10:20 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

I meant if you put them next to official or frankensprited stuff the differences would be obvious XD

So far it's a lot more cartoony than the proper stuff but if you're happy just having something instead of trying to make it proper then it's ok. Keep an eye out for symmetry though, the shoulder to elbow lengths are different between arms.

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Oh yeah. That. That's part of the whole "perspective" looks wrong thing. And I'm only using Payne and Judge. And the Payne is, well, a different Payne :yogi:

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Flint Chin Payne maybe? lol.

Anyways, I think your art may need some work, sorry. Do you just draw by mouse on Paint?

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

No. Android device, with my finger. And his name is Felix Payne. I have his sprites complete. They have bugs. Do you wanna help? I've fixed Pitelli up and I thought I posted it on here. I've also made a few crime scene photos and made a custom lobby though those are WIP.

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Right, I think there should be a big improvement between semi official and official art. Though it's just my opinion, you don't have to look super professional if you don't want to. For proportions, my advice is to mirror the art, you can spot a whole lot more flaws that way. I'd say you should take it easy, releasing the first case in three weeks seems kind of like rushing.

Author:  Fellowzdoomer [ Fri Jul 24, 2015 4:38 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Well, 3 weeks is without all the official art. For now Phoenix plays the role of Pitelli, and my witness Zachary Adavari is placeholder. I say 3 weeks not for a public, but for a private beta test release.

Cool, I'm interested in trying beta testing myself actually. So can I sign up? I promise I'll be a lot of help. :edgey:

Sure! Hopefully you know how to fix a few errors. I'll PM you.

To everyone else: I need help with art and soundtrack, as well as a gif2strip thingy. Thanks. And does anyone have a sniper rifle evidence box?

Couple of screenies. Don't wanna give away too much, but I have my sniper evidence. This is before you press a certain statement, though I had to do some SetFlag/DelFlag hackery to reveal a statement. The statement [name] test=[nickname] doesn't work.

Also, Pitelli's "power" is temporarily called Glare.

Update: I plan to release the first Turnabout to beta testers on August 15. This is a little more than 3 weeks, but ive had some life issues. Anyway, i'm 46% done with coding the game. So...cheers!

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (Work In Progression)

Tomorrow I will release the first closed beta for Turnabout Cuisine. It is currently 64% done, but by tomorrow it should be at least 80% done. If anybody wants the first beta, simply say it here. If you want to volunteer for sprite and music making, just say so here.

So far the game features:
2 cross examinations (writing the third one now.)
* One is a Press-Then-Present
* One is a Press-All-To-Continue
* The third will be a normal CE.

3 Custom characters
* Felix Payne - He'll make you feel the pain.
* Zachary Adavari - Your client.
* Ayam DeMurdara - A Frenchman who works as a waiter in a French restaurant and who ddefinitely isnt the murderer :p

Crime scene photos and flashbacks.

I can host the files and directories themselves for you if you want. It's just gonna be tough for you though.

Alternatively, you can try this and see if it'll work. Or try 7-Zip.

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (First Beta Sent Out)

Okay, I got it working. So I should just PM feedback along with advice right?

At least, with your art in this thread, I can give advice on how to improve. Try to trace first then copy a drawing, it's a good way to train your acuity of what you're drawing, especially when you want to replicate a style, like Ace Attorney here for example. If not, then maybe getting a sprite artist to help you.

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (First Beta Sent Out)

Yeah PM me advice and bugs.

Also, nobody is helping me with sprites. I wonder if they know they can volunteer to help. I also need soundtrack help.

If anybody is going to volunteer for sprite making and decides to make Draco, I'll need to ask them to make some spoiler sprites for the fifth case

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (First Beta Sent Out)

I do have some artistic experience, mostly anime/manga. Though I'm completely new to the Ace Attorney art style, so I have doubts if I can manage it. I guess I'll just play for now and see if I can help later, but as I said, I don't know, so good luck in any case.

Post subject:  Re: Draco Pitelli: Ace Attorney (First Beta Sent Out)

Gonna bump this for new news.

I WILL start back up on this project. Things have gotten in my way ever since iI started this thing, so I think I can finally work out some free time. Also, ever since the 23rd of October, I've been busy being 14 years old! :-D

Sadly, I will restart the entire project. My coding in the first beta is awful, and apparently my "undefined error" is in the evidence.txt file. I am also making the longest PyWright case ever! "Turnabout Confusion" will be its name, and there are many suspects to blame!

So, this project is NOT dead. It has been reborn!

(also case ideas for Cases 2, 3 & 4 would be nice.)
