Just finished this game and all I can say is...wow. Great game start to finish. Only one real complaint:

I'm totally new to fangames so here we go.
Gotta say, I started playing this game yesterday and it grasped me completely. The first day of investigating and trial were amazing.
But now I somehow got stuck, and I'm not sure if it's just my stupidity or a glitch in the game.
Spoiler:
It's the 2nd day and Chambers has just been murdered. I'm investigating and I collected today
-HT5 Case Files
-Strange Defense Request
-Car Alarm
-Autopsy Report
-Chambers' Car
-Car Interior Photo
I also checked every part of the car, Arthur's grave, and the track markings.
The only person that's there to talk to is Ema Skye at the police station, and I presented everything to her, including profiles. To the CR, except for the car alarm, she never gives a real response.
She also never gives me more than the 2 options to talk about: "Facts of the Case" and "Evidence?".
All other places are empty and I checked pretty much everything there as well. I called everyone on the phone list, too. Am I missing something?

Okay, I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing. So I got PyWright, and extracted the case into the games folder, but I don't know how to even start the thing up. The only thing that looks like it would do anything is the .pwv file, but my computer doesn't know what to do with it when I try to open it. I could really use some help here. I'm just an idiot when it comes to stuff like this. .__.

It turns out I actually had tried that earlier, but I got an error that said "permission denied". I usually use a non-administrator account on my computer, so all I had to do was tell it to "run as administrator". I KNEW it would be something totally in my face. >__<

It seems to be running just fine now. Thanks so much! Really looking forward to it! ^^

Also, I'm not sure if this is the correct place for a bug report, but anyway:
Spoiler:
During trial 2 concerning Chamber's death, you get to present the HT5 case file to prove the location of Erlenmeyer that fateful night. However, you have to pick the correct part of the file after presenting it.
I checked the Court Record before I picked any of the options, but the game registered this as if I clicked the wrong option "Trial Data" or something? and I got a penalty.

I can't go to Detention Center because of that Chief Justice, and I already presented every evidence to Rhea and Ema, but always found nothing......

If you've talked to Meekins (second topic, try doing that again) and picked up the wig, the Chief Justice shouldn't be here. That's what the code says, and I can't find a flaw in it that would explain why he's still here - unless a change in wrightscript's syntax has been made that I wasn't informed of, for instance if "is X AND Y" now means "if you've set the variable X, then Y, in that specific order" instead of "if you've set the two variables, whatever the order", which would create a problem if you've picked up the wig before talking to Meekins, but I frankly doubt it.
Anyway... try writing putting those two lines

after "label Detention Center" in scene11rhea.move, load your game, and go to the Detention Center. That should normally work.

I just finished playing your game, and I must say it was definitely an amazing experience. I know you've already gotten plenty of compliments and posts about bugs, so I was just hoping to point out the things I loved and hated about this game, which you could hopefully fix for people who plan to play this fan game in the future!

I'll start with what I loved, of course!
Spoiler: Love
I absolutely loved the twist of Rhea being the serial killer. I caught on to it during the investigation, and was assured it when she said "Do you know why I put strawberry and lemon flavoured gum in the same box..." which got me fired up to get her! I must admit I didn't like her in the beginning, and didn't feel she was a suitable girl for Apollo, so the twist made me happy hehe.

I loved the past references and the cameo from characters I would have never expected to see (Marshall, Meekins, that creepy doctor lol). I also loved that you had Apollo fend for himself, even though I'm a bigger PW fan than I am AJ :P)

I loved the ending of the game, and Rhea's digging her own grave emotion... that face was scary yet funny at the same time!

I loved that Poole was so wishy-washy with her emotions. At one moment she hates you, then the next she wants to help, and then suddenly hates on you again. Talk about menopausal :wendy:

I loved watching Ema crave her "munchies". It makes me lol every time I see her so hooked on those snacks!

I loved the autosave and the quick saves - definitely a lot better than the other games when you can quickly save like that!

And most of all, I LOVE the storyline! I can tell you put so much effort into the story and it definitely showed! I must thank you and your team for all the hard work and dedication you put into this, as I know this wasn't a 5-day thing.


And for some of the negatives...
Spoiler: Hate
I must admit, the bugs got irritating at times (I've had times where every single screen would give me a "skip to the next line" error, which got me a tad irritated).

In the final trial, I had a really low health bar since about the beginning (since it was so damn hard!), and even though there were about 2-3 recesses, my life bar never got fully restored (like in PW 1-5), which made for some irritation and mass saving on my part. Maybe you could fix the health bar so that it fully restores during the recesses?

Never, EVER, let Judge become a defendant, and NEVER let Judge be a victim. That was horrible :\. I must admit that was my least favourite part of my game, and definitely made me hate G.Strings with a passion (I'm sorry!). P.S. Don't you need to have been a lawyer for at least 10 years before becoming a judge? That's how I believe it is in Canada, so seeing G.Strings - a 28-year-old son as a judge threw me off - you may want to consider making both him and P.Strings older?)

The whole blackmail on P.Strings' part was barely shown. I was badly hoping it would be involved somehow within the story (i.e. Rhea blackmailing P.Strings, P.Strings knowing Rhea was the real killer and not being able to say anything BECAUSE of the blackmail, etc - it was suspicious that Rhea knew about all this Latin mumbo-jumbo, knowing about the gold plate and the statue phone, etc)

...So...much...pointless...evidence... I know there were a few previous cases where PW would clear out his court record - maybe you can do that as well in this game (at least get rid of the pointless defence request letters)


All-in-all though, I loved the game. It was definitely many hours well spent, the twists were spot-on amazing, and overall the quality was superb. Hopefully you can make the changes I posted (that is, if you want to), and I'm sure it'll be even better! Thank you so much for the experience!

Thanks you so much for the detailed, helpful review, Kav! I can't say much about the compliments, except that they mean a lot to us (by the way, you're right in that it wasn't a 5 day thing; it was more of a holiday thing, really ^^) and that we're glad you enjoyed the game, so I'll focus on the "bad".

As for the bugs, I can't do anything when I don't have more details on where they appear, sorry - the game is just too big to go hunting for them, as it were, without any leads.

I'll consider refilling the bar during recesses... well, only one recess really, because the last part gets you a gameover at the first mistake anyway. Still, the game is meant to be very hard, and so far you're the first to suggest this, so I'll have to think about it before I make a decision.

For obvious reasons, I can't change the defendant or the victim XD The case wouldn't make any sense whatsoever if I did. Plus, many people found it sad, and felt bad for the guy, which is the reaction I wanted: it wouldn't have had the same emotional impact if it were anyone else.

I don't know about the specifics of how to become a judge in the United States (where the game is supposedly set), but remember 1/ this is the 2020s, and the judicial system has changed a lot (understatement of the week :p) 2/ if you look at the past: "The youngest federal judge was Thomas Jefferson Boynton, who was 25 when Abraham Lincoln issued him a recess appointment to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on October 19, 1863."
Besides, the 10 year of experience thing is not something you see everywhere: for instance, if I wanted to become a judge in France, I could become one at the age of 24 (it's 7 years of studies, but you start right away), 4 years younger than G.Strings, and I only skipped one year. My cousin, who comes from Germany, became judge at the age of 26 or 27, I don't remember which. I could multiply examples - if anything G.Strings would be a bit old for a rookie by several countries' standards.

The blackmail is involved within the story. The guy at the end of the line is Shawn O. Fisher, and he's not blackmailing Paul Strings, but rather asking for payment for his role in Erlenmeyer's prison escape.

I see your point about evidence (though AAI was the first to do this)... but again, the game is supposed to be difficult. The more evidence, the harder it is to make wild guesses. Furthermore, "housecleaning" in AAI didn't make much sense: they would keep evidence not based on their relevance at the time, but later on, making it almost too obvious what the Chekhov's gun would be. It would be the same if I did it in TS: why keep the photo of Rhea and Nathan, of all things? That would instantly make Rhea suspicious. It also works in reverse: if we got rid of the bust of Leonidas after trial day 1, people would stop suspecting Paul Strings and making connections with the Mysterious "Bust" Killer.

Spoiler: one point
I think what he's saying here is that Paul Strings completely drops out in the second half of the game. In fact, I thought he was the person who would testify when Apollo has to come up with a witness (rather than Erlenmeyer himself). It did seem weird that he just wasn't around, especially if you wanted the player to continually think he might be a suspect.

I wanted the player to think he was still a suspect precisely because of his absence, coupled with the fact that he was previously established as an important character.
But I can see how people may have been surprised by the little role he had in the second half, though paradoxically he gets the most screen time in the second day of investigation.

At the second trial, when I have to accuse Rhea as the killer, I just realized that there isn't any profile of her in my Court Record, so I can't continue the game currently. :larry:
And I've just realized that some of my evidences(Attorney Badge and Bracelet) are disappearing too.

Is there any way to solve this problem? :larry:

As for Rhea, are you sure you're looking at profiles? You're the first to have that problem, and there's nothing in the code that would explain it.

Im on a part where you have to accuse someone of the murder (2nd trial, it's after when apollo goes "I know who the murder is", i know who to accuse can't remember there name ._. but i must be correct because it saves after selecting them, im on the "And the evidence..." part, but im so comfused and this case is so hard for me :larry:) But what evidence do you use though? I've tried all the evidence but i get the same thing every time, the girl runs away :yuusaku:. Also would you consider making a walkthrough of this on youtube or make it a text walkthrough so we could know what to do if we are really stuck on the game :phoenix:.

Just click on the error message until it disappears and allows you to go on. Those errors are never game breaking, fortunately ;)

Out of curiosity, when did you download the game? In the newest version, there is no longer any "emo aideserious name=pc", I just checked.

Ok I am stuck.

The judge wants me to accuse someone with some evidence. I feel as if I have tried everything here, including accusing Apollo and the cat. I must be stupid or something. I think it has to be pole, but I can't think of any evidence (profiles aren't even a selectable option).


Btw, I did manage to get stuck at the wig bug. And restarting from an earlier save somehow worked. And some graphics sometimes randomly fail to load. And the autosave when you present stuff leads to a less ideal save, it still works, but you have to close the court record yourself. And yes, I am using the latest version of both the engine and the game (according to the built in updater at least).

You can turn off the autosave. Press esc for the options. It won't help you get unstuck, but it might lessen the annoyance factor.
