KSA_Tech, you could ask Invertigo, who ripped the Kristoph one, for the others. He's a ROM hacker, so it shouldn't be too hard for him.

I had begun coding a load/save screen identical to the one in-game however due to unavailability of features of some kind (I cannot recall now) it got scrapped. I still have the coding so I shall dig into my files, see what was completed, and try identify what needs to be done, then work with KSA on it to make sure it is introduced in 1.2. I don't recall the problem tht you had with it on aige 0.9.700a, but in any case i'll add anything that might be needed.

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on something? There is a problem I've been having with AIGE. Whenever I start it up, it will leave me with a white screen and it will just sit there. When I close it, it says the program is not responding. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem is simple: PWLib load time takes longer to load and after a minimal time, it looks like it locked. It is a problem with how AIGE loads long scripts (like pwlib's loading sequence), not rendering to the window in the middle of the loading. I was thinking on a solution for this, btw.
Just wait a bit longer and it will load. If you try to close it during a white screen, it WILL crash.

Notes about PWLib:

I'll work on a better loading so it doesn't stall (at least not in most cases) with the white screen. It might even have a loading bar. This might not take long, so I might post some screenshots of the loading screen today or tomorrow.

A small candy from PWLib 1.2: the new loading screen:

It isn't definitive yet, but it shows the loading stage on the messagebox instead of on the window title.
Also it reveals the new series name for PWLib starting in 1.2!

PWLib 1.1 already has a loading screen (that changes the title).

The girl on the lower screen is named Mio, that is all I can reveal about the relevancy of the name with 1.2.

I might add a load bar, but there is one functionality that I need to add first (in order to autoget the values for the bar for example).

I have a quick question:
How can you make the screen turn black and white, like in flashbacks?

Also, are you going to post a release date for 1.2 when you can, or are you just going to release it whenever it's ready?

The final version, with smooth loading bar:

Image

As a sidenote, the title can (must!) be set before pwlib is loaded, unlike it was in 1.1 and earlier releases, laving a more professional eeling to the game.
Also the white screen problem might have been solved in most cases.

---------------
The black and white effect is possible using AHLTL and making the needed textures bw with an AHLTL script (i'll provide those on 1.2, as only the inversion is there).

I prefer to not put up release dates as it tends to break. The surprise is better when you don't know when it comes too, right?

Some notes:

PWLib's official "birthday" date is June 14th (good times when I released 1.0).

Now onto information about 1.2: I finished the integration of the Perceive, so mostly what's left for it to be out is really Shinku. Some fixes on GFX and appearance are needed too (arrows for CR, for example), but they are minimal and won't take much to be done.

I like this loading screen much better than the other one. It's much more AA themed :phoenix: ! Can't wait to see it all come together. There's been tons of new updates in this version. I'll be sure to keep checking for 1.2.

P.S. It's kinda hard to see with all of the posts scattered around, but what are all of the functions of Shinku?

With the fact that PWLib 1.2 is still mainly in production there is most likely no real work apart from cosmetic in production for Unleashed at present. However if I can get a sneak preview or whatever, I will make little code snippets during my spare time which you could see in action straight away then examine the code to understand it. (I prefer this learning method myself)
I am also thinking of perhaps providing a PHP application for KSA's website so there is one large database with ALL official commands and what they do (possibly with small demo scripts also). A similarity of what I would like to give KSA is PHP's own website, you can easily search for a function (If you know it and just need to understand what it does) or you can search through a list of them and find one you're after. This link takes you to a part of PHP's website which has all of the String (text) related commands and a brief explanation then upon clicking the command you get even more information about it.
If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!

PWLib Unleashed needs Shinku done first in oder to exist. Some things are borrowed from the PWLib In A Nutshell (such as character creation), but mostly is going to be new.

The PHP DB will be a very good thing, so people can refer easily to functions and example code.

Also I had an idea to make a demonstration game showing all functionality that there is in PWLib 1.2 (so it could serve as well as a test). The "game" would be hosted by Mio who explains and comments the features. For it I would need the certain Mio poses:
Front-Type: Normal, Serious and Laughing
Court-Type: Normal and Serious.

Tips when developing PWLib games:

- Do not add any files to the PW folder. Doing so makes updating to newer versions of the GFX pack harder and imprecise.
- Do not add any files to the pwlib folder. Making so makes updating to newer versions of the pwlib core harder and imprecise, sometimes leading to bugs.
- Use the music folder, or any other folder you like, to put ALL the musics in. Don't break the music pack over many folders.
- Try to put your game files on a folder with the name of the game. This allows better organization and transportation in case of updates.
- Ask for help if ypu're stuck. Sometimes something you did touched a hidden bug on AIGE, that might get fixed thanks to your collaboration.

Right! Because I have it load the resources before each case, it takes some time to load, with just a black screen. A loading screen there is a swell idea.

Also on a sidenote:

AIGE 0.9.800a does have a unload texture command, so characters will need to be updated to support a cleaner function. It isn't something hard, and will be explained as 1.2 gets closer to release. This will prevent PWLib from filling the memory with unused character from previous cases.

Update
Now characters (initially) will autoload textures for animation that are not present (not loaded). This allows one new, more memory economical execution of pwlib games.
Characters will have to use an unload function that will automatically unload ALL textures used by the char in question. After the creation is done, this function will have to be called to free all memory used by the gfx. But as an expression is called into use, the character will autonmatically load the required texture.
This frees much more memory andmake PWLib's memory usage lower. Example:

Edgeworth FULL set of gfx uses ~200mb of memory. With this method, it will be easy to simply use ~2mb per pose, and only the needed ones in question. The update on all chars is simple work, nothing complicated.

So for developers, calling a char unload function will be recommended if that char doesn't show up for a while. Even so if it isn't called, PWLib will use less memory then before in cases where of 20 poses the game uses only 2 or 3.

So, when a character animation runs, it will automatically load the required textures, and then those textures can be later unloaded with an unload function?
That does sound a lot smarter.

In AIGE 0.9.700a, the Texture Manager changed sightly: loadtexture won't really load the texture, but register the place for the texture. When an object uses that texture (set<...>graphic for example) the texture is loaded. This explains why PWLib 1.1 loads faster then 1.0x's. But you couldn't unload the textures from that.
In AIGE 0.9.800a, you can unload the texture using the destroytexture command. And animations will automatically load textures used by the frame it's changing to. So suppose you have an animation with 100 frames and one texture is used on the frames 1 to 10, other on 11 to 20 and so on until the 100 (10 textures). As creating the animation loads the textures (since the texture sizes is needed), you can now unload the texture soon after (i'm updating the chars for that now) to economize memory. Now think each texture would eat 4 mb of memory, you would have 40 mb of memory used. If you play the animation with all 10 textures unloaded, as a frame needs one texture, it will be loaded (so if you play the animation until frame 49, you will only have loaded 5 of the 10 textures). Now think the animation is broken into 10 animations of 10 frames each. You can play animation 2 and only that animation's texture will be loaded. In PWLib, it means loading all characters won't get the memory full since only what's needed will be loaded. (and you will be able to clean what you don't need anymore).
