I've completed an early trailer for the game, as can be seen here.

Trailer was great. The start was a bit too slow and boring however it really picked up later on. Also, Lana was the former Chief Prosecutor, not a former High Prosecutor. She went straight from Detective to Chief Prosecutor because of Gant.

Really now? I merely thought they were the same thing, seeing as the position of Chief Prosecutor is pretty much the same as Attorney General, and the that there are multiple High Prosecutors (They all have the same ring to them). Essentially I thought they all were describing the same thing (as the name is different in many countries...and the fact that the Chief Prosecutor in 1-2 is a man. I got confused, thought they were the same).

Oh yeah, it is also probably due to the fact that Phoenix and Ema get directed to the Edgeworth's High Prosecutor office in 1-5, making me think it was Lana's office (for some reason).

Well, anyway, I wanted the start to be kinda sad. :sadshoe: So that explains the boring, haha.

Vegas eh? I use Adobe Premiere since I hate using Vegas :p

Question: What are you using for Gumshoe's attorney sprites? Customs or just the GK ones?

Premiere is expensive, so I haven't tried it. I presume it has a lot more transitions and effects, I have to make a lot of my own effects in Vegas by combining others.

For now I'm just using Gumshoe's GK sprites, which pretty much cover everything...except for when he objects. Whether or not he gets a finger pointing pose will depend entirely on if I can get someone to make one up.

That's something I might be able to help with as well. My dad has an Adobe Photoshop he plans to install into my computer. Once done, I can take a crack at doing a Gumshoe Pointing sprite sheet.

That'd be awesome if you could. I have photoshop myself (I could afford it stand alone, but it is CS3, the previous version), but I'm an absolutely terrible sprite artist/editor. The most I can do is banners and the such (the image in the first post was created by me).

I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Just a sample of my cut-paste editing skills. This was done a year back for a friend.

A simple refacing, erasing and recolor sprite animation. Used Ema's body with Desiree's face. It's a simple edit, but I'm proud of it.

It's just to show you what I can do.

That actually looks pretty damn good. Sure, there may be a few white artefacts around the sprite, nothing a little touching up couldn't fix though.

That looks great. All I really need now is that with a transparent background, and a version of that with him not talking (obviously with a transparent background too).

If I need to, I'll get someone to make the animations into a sprite sheet.

It may need touching up, but it's great for something I didn't pressure you to create. ^^

I have yet to see if it matches up with the size of the other GK Gumshoe sprites though. I presume you created it based upon a full sized GK sprite anyway, so it should be the same size right?

Wow, from the trailer to the objection sprite, this actually pretty quickly seems to be shaping up! Especially since it seems like you're using all existing characters (and thus don't have to wait for a mountain of custom sprites to finish) As long as the writing matches that of the originals, I think this is something I would really look forward to!

I don't know how much this is worth, but outside of overall plot-planning, one thing I'm fond of is planning out how a murder happens, and what contradictions lead to its discovery in a way the player can understand. It's sort of a mix of writing and design, in a way. If, perchance, that's something that's appeared as a trouble area, I might be willing to help out.

Yes, but those gifs are on a white background. So either a sheet or transparent gifs would do, but if it's a sheet they have to be normal sized (and Photobucket seems to have shrunk the image, probably to fit it's max width).

Damn uploading sites, screwing over Ben's work! :chinami:

Well, I do have a few original sprites that I need, but only a few of them are major (S, final boss), so I shouldn't need them till much later anyway. Well, it'd be better to have S sooner than later. But, yes, I'll mostly be using already existing characters, so things should go smoothly from that perspective.

The trouble I'll probably have with the whole planning out of how a murder happens will be case 3 and 4's murders. I've got case 1 and 2 pretty much planned out, and some of case 5. When I get to that stage, I may hit you up. ^^

When I was reading the plot I thought it was going to turn into Dick Gumshoe - Private Eye

Seems like a good idea and I like the look of the sprites, but I have a quick question, how will the first case start? Will you get to see Gumshoe get fired or do you just jump straight into being led by Trucy?

Although it is to be expect, it's neither of the above. The first case is going to have a cold start, starting at Gummy's very first actual case. Case 2 will be a flash back and explain the back story of the game better.

Hm, it seems I may have overlooked something.

Considering Gumshoe is now an acting Attorney, thus not a member of the police force, thus not a detective, I am without a detective character.

Older Ema Skye (As seen in AAI) is a very possible candidate for this position. After doing some research, Ema could qualify for a position of "Private Investigator", as in she is not linked with the police force. However, this might lead me to partially bend canon. Is 6-7 months really enough time for her to realise her dream of being a Forensic Investigator is kaput, and that she must then settle for Detective/Ivestigator instead? Or does what I have in the spoiler tags below work?

Spoiler: Could be considered Ema spoilers, not sure, still AAI stuff anyways
I could make it that she thought that becoming a P.I. on the side was a good start to her Forensic Investigator career after completing her studies in England, as 6-7 months is enough time for that to happen (she was 18 in AAI). By which I mean graduation from wherever she was studying, and her return to the U.S. to pursue her dream

Does this roll with you guys? I AM trying to make this fit into canon as best I can.

Edit

It seems I overlooked the fact that Ema did not meet Phoenix until much later in life (after 1-5). The only way I can concieve of having her there, while fitting into canon, is to make her not meet Phoenix. It'll be hard, but it'll work, and give me a way to add in a new running gag. Well?

Actually, with Lana in the bunch, that might not be a bad idea. Also, more sprite work for "S", I'm willing to help with that now, if you wish.

But, yes, I think I've pretty much made up my mind that Older Ema (Ema 2.0) should be the detective. However, that means she needs frontal sprites...

Since Aurion is pretty busy with his OC, I might hit you up on that and see what your interpretation of her is. But she has to be top quality though.

I'm not sure Ema being the detective would work. in AAI she's back in the US on her spring break, and has to return to Europe very soon thereafter to continue her studies. If she's just finishing high school there before going to university in the States, it would make sense for her to be a PI, but it seems more likely that her higher education was in Europe as well (hence not meeting Phoenix). Also, why would the police use a PI instead of one of their own detectives?

Lana rejoining the police force as a detective seems more likely (she vows at the end of 1-5 to get back into the field so she can investigate crimes with Ema again, and she is a veteran detective after all), but she doesn't appear until case 3 in the currently planned plot. Since the detectives in the GS cases first appear in Case 2, this is a bit of a pickle.

A detective OC is the easiest way out, except for the "more work" part. :sadshoe:

I guess having Ema studying forensic science in LA and being a PI on the side might work best after all. Since she's busy with her studies + work and Phoenix is busy either being emo or going on his super secret mission, it's plausible that they wouldn't meet, and we can just fanwank the part about Ema coming back to find Phoenix disbarred (4-2) out. Actually, I've always had the vague temptation to fanwank all of AJ out. :-P

Well, I don't mean that the police would use her, I mean she'd just be...y'know, there. "Someone anonymously told me about this place, so I came to do some snooping? And who were you again?"

I kinda want Lana to be a sort of mentor for Gumshoe, considering she was practically what Gumshoe strived to be back when he was in the force. The thing is though, is it's a bit soon for Lana to be back in the force. The case in DD-3 takes place around 2-3 days after her release from jail, so having her be the detective is an even longer shot than Ema.

Quote:

Then I'd need to come up with a whole new character, and you see where that leads me to. Back story, why they're in the story, their relation to the other characters, etc etc. So, yes, "more work".

If I ever did need a situation where Phoenix and Ema were to be in the same place, I was going to do a 'just missed each other' scenerio. I mean, she didn't even meet Phoenix in AAI, so I don't assume it would be a priority here either.

We wouldn't need to fanwank out that situation either. It seems that not a lot of people in AAI know what Phoenix is up to now anyway, so the fact that Ema may not have known he was disbarred is very possible. It's not like she has contact with Maya or anything either, since they never met, so she essentially has no way of knowing what he is up to.

So, yeah, I think I'm just going to go with Ema studying forensic science in LA and being a PI on the side. Now I need frontal sprites...xD

Small Update:

I should be getting S' voice samples soon thanks to denerop, and I should be getting Lana's finished sprites. I may even get S' sprites eventually.
