Spoiler: Explaination
I think that the Poole you meet at the crime scene is in fact... Vivian Snow. Maybe Ping doesn't want to use the old "evil murdering prosecutor." Poole confessing was quite nice and friendly, while the Poole at the scene was a bitch. Just like Snow. And if she played no other role why would she have a profile.

Haha, I check this thread and find my favourite character in TS being debated about :karma:

Spoiler:
So you are saying that Poole at Forest Bones was actually Snow? Do you think that Snow was evil enough to have swapped with Snow? If so, where is Poole? And what motive does Snow have for doing all of this?

Finished! That was awesome! I especially loved Erlenmeyer's crazy-ness and I actually understood some parts

Spoiler:
Hmh... I believe she had the help of either Strings or Poole herself. She did have a helper that told her of the faked nature of the report, and I don't think Udgey would tell her. Strings did say he cared more about Justice, but he forged a note and covered it up, a contradiction of his own morals. Why would he help Snow than help cover-up the note?
But at the same time, why would Poole present the evidence if she informed Snow of it being a fake? Is it possible that Poole wanted Erlenmeyer to take the blame for crimes that someone else(either herself, Snow or Strings committed) but didn't want him to die for the culprit's sins? If Snow was the murderer, she may have toke Erlenmeyer's case because she knew she could make him take the blame. It is fairly obvious by her extremely quick switch of plea, she didn't care about if he really did or did not do it. Snow could also have told Erlenmeyer of the details of the music and photo's to make him look even worse. Maybe Poole and Snow worked together in the Bust killings? Snow told Erlenmeyer details, Poole dragged them out of him to make him look guilty. Poole then brought up the report, (pretending to be helping Strings and Udgey) and told Snow of how it was forged. Snow brought that up and managed to spare Erlenmeyer of the death penalty.
Now taking that theory into the back of our brains, let's activate logic mode. Poole said she was going to confess, did she not. Maybe Poole informed Snow of this fact as well, and came to the conclusion that Poole was going to confess to the Bust killings too? Snow may have taught that Poole would bring her up in her confession and as such would have to get Poole to hold back on her confession. Poole thought about it, but the next evening refused, claiming that she needed to get rid of this guilt, as she said to Apollo. Snow could not let that happen, so she killed Poole and adopted a disguise of being Poole herself. She obviously had to hide the body somewhere, maybe in a place where a corpse would be a normal sight? A graveyard! It just so happened that Udgey came along while Snow was hiding Poole's body and Snow realizing that there could be no witnesses, disposed of him. She hit him over the head with the shovel she was using to bury Poole and hit him as he exited his car. She proceeded to finish burying Poole and attempted to get away, using the car! Not the wisest move but I doubt after you think you've killed two people in 5 minutes you would be thinking logically. She got in, with gloves(from burying the body) and tried to drive away. It was at this point that the Judge awoke and tried to stop Snow, this activated the alarm and Snow panicking, knocked Udgey aside and ran him over. After hearing the alarm she started to run away. It is at this point Erlenmeyer walked in, he say Snow run away, tossing her strawberry gum in the snow. He approached the car and touched the stirring wheel. He saw the Judge's body and fainted.

This is a bug Supersonic.

If you have a save from before entering that menu, follow randomjiberishes fix:

RandomJibberish wrote:
I have exactly the same problem as DefenceLawyer, and I'm definitely using the latest version.

I've fixed it by putting "set _show_back_button true" before the list in scene56strings.talk.txt.

Apply that fix.

Then load that save. If you saved in the menu, you will need to either apply the fix and restart, or edit your save. To edit the save, open games/ts_demo3/Turnabout Substitution/save.ns in notepad or another text editor. Search for listmenu. Delete from the [ to the ] where it starts ["listmenu" .... .... .... ]. Watch out, there are other brackets inside there. Here's an example listmenu section for one of my saves:

Code:
['listmenu', [], {'dim': 1, 'selected': ['line 1', 'line 1'], 'name': 'general/logobw', 'blinkspeed': [40, 100], 'spd': 6, 'max_fade': 0, 'pri': 6, 'pos': [0, 192], 'id_name': 'list_menu_id', 'si': 0, 'tag': 'talking', 'fade': 255, 'fail': 'none', 'x': 0, 'hidden': False, 'z': 5, 'rot': [0, 0, 0], 'options': [['line 1', 'line 1'], ['line 2', 'line 2']]}]

It will usually end with "]]}]"

Make sure not to take off too many ]'s though. If you have trouble just post the save and I'll fix it for you.

I'll upload a fixed TS too.

Ping, just played through Demo 3. Great job with it; it was great, but I did have one little complaint.
Spoiler: Demo 3 Spoiler
The chewing gum was very difficult to find, even knowing that it would be there.

But aside from that (and a few text lines slipping into offscreen space) it was of high quality. The new sprites and backgrounds looked good. Whoever wrote the dialogue for the first part of the demo was really funny (especially Snow), but the rest of it was really good too. The new opening was a huge improvement and looked awesome. I will certainly anticipate the next installment in this epic case.

More save editing, if you search in save.ns for "_cr_back_button", "_list_back_button" and "_show_back_button", make sure all of those values are set to true. If your save is at a point where a menu without a back button is showing, you will again have to delete the ["listmenu" .. {}... [] ...etc] section.

The updated TS on pywright downloads has it fixed for strings, but if this problem crops up elsewhere it might be bad. The problem isn't actualy strings in scene 57, it's is actually some other code which is hiding the back button but never unhiding it.

Anyway, just to announce that even though it hasn't been a week, the megaupload file has already been downloaded 105 times! Thanks a lot for your support, guys! Spread the word, and let's make it ten times as many :)

In other news, coding for trial day 2 has officially started. And I actually mean the coding, not the writing, since the text is already completely written. Look forward to the final part !

I love it! I will wait util the final part is ready.

It was realy well made.. Sadly, I found some few bugs:
Sometimes you can see the G. Stings sprite over the Poole Sprite.
The Stings and G.Stings out of court dont have animations.
In the first trial everybody has the name "none" when they talk.
Sometimes when you explore important things the dialog cancels and says no clues here.
In the middle of one of the talks you have with rhea an error message apears saying than the scripts for that dialog dont exist.
I things than there was more.. but I cant remember.

About the two Strings' not being animated... that's because they don't have animations xD They're supposed to be that way.

If it says "No clues here" you probably clicked the "check" button instead of just clicking the area with your mouse. If you used the "check" button, try using your mouse instead :) (Or, if you are using your mouse, try using the "check" button xD)

If you get an error message (like the one saying the dialog doesn't exist) it's much more helpful is you jot down when/where it happened and then tell us =\

Malvodius > Thanks for helping us remove all these little bugs :)

All sprites issues are already known, and are due to our graphic team understandably not having the time / not having as many people in it as would be optimal, to keep up with the fast pace of the coding.
Once the coding was finished, I found it would be better for the players to release the demo than to have them wait for weeks, maybe months, for small graphic edits.
These will all be done by the time the final version of the full game is released, of course.

As for your problem with 'none'... all nametags showed properly on the version of PyWright I had when demo 2 was released, so it probably has to do with one of the changes made since. Coders are currently working on trial day 2, so it'll be interesting to see whether the same thing occurs to them. If it doesn't, it'll tell me exactly what I need to change in the script of trial day 1 ^^

I remember where it was the "dialog dont exist" problem. It was in the first option of the talk you can have with rhea in her house by the time you can visit Stings in the detention center.

It happens when apollo is going to respond to her, a few error message apears over the sprites in the first window. after you clik a few times to pass the messages the game continues normaly.

Lovely game.

Spoiler:
"What does the constitution say about his power level?" Almost as awesome as Apollo praising AJ:AA and dissing the PW trilogy and AAI:ME. :redd:

The Strings are awesome. When the Chief Justice was describing his son, I felt every word as if he were describing me. :garyuu:

Spoiler: 4-3, TS demo
I presume G. Strings (I couldn't read that name with a straight face for the first five minutes, lol) is supposed to be the one Machi and Daryan were trying to smuggle the cocoons for?

In hindsight, I'm actually surprised that wasn't mentioned ingame.

I believe it was mentioned but Strings became the Chief Justice because the previous one had to step down due to his sick son. I don't remember clearly but I'm sure Ping' posted about it in this thread.

Father and son: G. Strings admires his father like a hero.
Smuggled cocoon: A cocoon was smuggled, falling into the hands of the Chief of Justice, curing his son.

This explains why G Strings admires his father.

Spoiler: Or...
Ping could use a plot twist such as reveal that G. Strings had a brother, yes, had. They didn't process well the cocoon and made it a lethal poison.

Spoiler:
However nice that theory sounds, I'm afraid Tap is right. Strings was chosen as Chief Justice to replace the one mentioned in 4-3 (Judge explicitly stated it in the first day of investigation). Gerald's admiration for his father has more to do with the fact that Paul is the typical distant authority figure. The less Paul treats him like a loving father, the more Gerald seeks his constant approval.

Progress update !

Those of you who've been following this topic the past few months will probably have noticed that the Turnabout Substitution team has been on a roll ever since December.

Well, we ain't done rollin'.

Filip1236 and Supersonic808 have been recruited as coders, and as a result, one third of the last day of trial is already entirely scripted.

At this rate, Turnabout Substitution will probably turn out to be (against all odds, since it's quite a long game) the very first casemaker game ever to be completed.

The question is no longer whether we'll be able to see this project through (we will) nor even when coding will be finished (soon) but rather, how long it'll take to get all the remaining graphics done / improve those that can be improved / fix all bugs / add some extras for you guys. Whatever happens, it'll get done in the end anyway.

Yeah, I saw that on Ace Fancase. Hard to believe that in three to five days, 20 pages of dialogue was coded. That's amazing :)

You'll never get your soul back, Ping'. I think I did a good job finding that coder for you.

Hopefully, you can find another sprite artist (or two) to help out with the remaining animations and graphics.

I think I've found the Nothing names problem, I'll be looking into it more closely and putting up a fix (either in TS or PyWright). It may be a 0.960 thing.

Edit: er, nope. I'm really not sure how this wasn't caught, unless none of the beta testers played all the way through, but I get the "nothing's" in court as far back as beta 10.93. Scene 18 sets everyone to Nothing, and there is a quirk to court macros which makes the names persistent :)

Edit2: "Nothing" nametags are now fixed in latest ts_demo3 on update service. If downloader doesn't work, try updating to 0.971 (0.970 broke new downloads!) If updating to 0.971 doesn't work, download the patch here: http://pywright.dawnsoft.org/updates3/engine/0.970.zip

If you have saved during a "Nothing" nametag, it will not be fixed until the next scene.

Mmm, this egg on my face tastes good

Whoops, sorry for the late reply.
Put "set _show_back_button true" before the list in scene56strings.talk.txt.
Check saluk's first post in this page for more details on how you can start from where you left off (instead of going through the beginning once more) if you've saved.
I think it's fixed in the version you can download on PyWright, though.
I'll probably put out another megaupload link soon, but I want to reach 200 downloads first (so I can add the download counts more easily ; currently we're at 191).

Hey,

I just started playing the game, and DUUUUUDE well freaking done, it's awesome.

I thought it might be helpful however to list some glitches I've found:

1. The text is like oldbag text at the start (running without the click), you can lose track of the story easily if you look away for an instant.

2. The Judge in the detention center, the first time you see him, due to the sprite, you can't see his legs, and it looks like he's floating. This problem occurs repeatedly check the point at which Apollo thinks 'pull yourself together'. Again at 'gasp are powerforwards allowed at the detention center', for some reason the sprite has been elevated this time.

3. When in the detention center and speaking to the judge, at the main menu (examine, move, present, talk), you can't see the judge.

4. It might be useful to allow the player to hit tab to return from the court record, rather than forcing him/her to click return.

5. There is a grammatical error at 'photographson the floor', there is no space between 'photographs' and 'on'.

6. Not sure if this was intentional but there is a point where it says 'averyloud'.

I hope I don't sound extremely critical or upitty about all this, I just thought it would be helpful, like game testing for the final release,

that's all for now,

Oh,

also, I just lost all my save data because I pressed 'd' by mistake in the hope that it would count as a button to replace the click.

'd' appears to close the program, but that's probably pyright's fault

probably should warn people though.

It shouldn't do that. Pressing D toggles fps display in the top corner.
