Hey there!
I'm back to tell you that I fixed the problem I had with the gum not appearing. :will:
The problem was with me modifying the wrong file, the right one was inside the PyWright-games folder and not the downloaded Turnabout substitution folder ^^" Let the investigation proceed!

Anyway, I'll give my feedback after finishing the case!

>BadPlayer: Yeah, I did. In fact it was the first ever fancase i've played! :phoenix: It took me a walkthrough to finish it :|.

>DualThrusters: I must say, I agree with that rant/comment/suggestion of yours. It inspired me to make my own. (No infringement intended :godot:). See rant below.
Spoiler:
To the TS team...I really like the AA games, because they are so unique and fulfilling. I also really look forward to those fancases made by people like you guys. But Turnabout Substitution was different. It surpassed all those fangames I've tried and MORE. The quality gameplay and the concept of its story line ranks as high as the real PW and AA cases themselves. Overall, the game was excellent, great gameplay, intriguing story, amusing sprites, nice backgrounds, funny dialouges. YES, there were some bug like "no label." and people saying the wrong dialogue, and no "back" button during conversations with characters, but nevertheless it was a really, really, REALLY AWESOME game. It seemed so parallel to Phoenix's story (dramatic 5th case, new assistant, sociopath for an ex, etc. Rhea's character was interesting...I'd never suspect her (I suspected Poole, you know?). Ending was so scary. I hope Rhea doesnt haunt Apollo after that. Poole was okay, Meekins was annoying, the P. Strings and G. Strings were a great touch, Marshall was EPIC :)). OH AND THE PHONE BIT. That was really great. Good thing you guys added that. BG's and music were nice, and the timer thing at the end was really nerve-wracking. It was one of the best games I've tried in my life. Congrats on the success, and I hope there are more epic cases to come! (Will you include :phoenix: :edgeworth: :maya: in it? Or is it based on :odoroki: again...

*Headdesk* Turns out I've been playing the damn 3rd DEMO of the case. (I got it through the PyWright downloads.) Just great. :grey: Well, at least you included the way to quickly get back to action in the full version! Thanks a million for that! ^^

DualThrusters, dasupernerd25 > Thank you so much for your support! To see that some players actually think about the game, keep memories, and even feel some emotions, whatever they are, means a lot to us. What we gave is nothing compared to what we're receiving =)

DualThrusters >
Spoiler:
I absolutely love your interpretation of the last scene.

Glad you like the phone conversations. BP did a great job finding the words for what I had in mind.

I'm flattered that you tried replaying the game. You'll see that there is a lot of foreshadowing in the case :p

If I ever make another PW game, I'd be likely to reuse some of the characters. If I made a case that occurred after Substitution in the continuity, G.Strings would have to be the judge ; if it occurred before, a younger Poole might be interesting ; another character that could use more screen time in another game would be Snow ; and Shawn O. Fisher could always be your typical "average joe with a temper who witnessed something incredible" in any case.

Good luck with your projects! I'm sure you'll be able to bring your ideas to life one way or another.

dasupernerd25 >
Spoiler:
Wow. That's some praise. One of the best games you've tried in your life, you say? I sincerely hope you'll be able to play lots of better games than this one in the future.

Anyway, one of the main ideas was indeed to parallel what happened to Phoenix with Apollo, good that you picked up on it :)

Iban > Oh. Sorry you had to play demo 3, the full game is vastly improved compared to that version. Hope you'll enjoy trial day 2.

@BadPlayer: Haha. Thanks for pointing that out, I should really read previous posts more.

@Ping: The concept of the parallelism was really clever :))) This game inspired me to make a fanfic, you know? Its about Phoenix continuing his law career after Turnabout Succession (and...I guess Turnabout Substitution). I know, its so unoriginal. But I have to start somewhere right? And I don't have time to make a REAL case on pywright. Its too hard... :meekins:

@Iban: OHHH. I can totally relate. I played the third demo when the full game was released. Frustrating. The full game was wayy better than the demo.

I signed up just to say that this is the coolest fan game ever! You have definitely raised my expectations for other fan games out there. Love the work! :redd:

I am sadly stuck in day 2 of the case...is it alright if I ask for help?

Spoiler:
This is the second day of the trial and I don't know what to present to contradict Jake Marshal. I either have to call a witness or present evidence. I presume I need to pick evidence but the ones I thought of placing were not the right ones. Which do I need to present to produce a contradiction? >_<

Spoiler:
You need to call a witness, not present evidence.
Think of someone whose account can tell you what actually transpired at the crime scene. There's only one character that fits the bill.

By the way, I'm about to upload a new version of the game which should fix a good number of issues.

@Ping' > Oh that's great! Am excited! Speaking of which, here are some bugs I did pick up on the way. (I downloaded this game just last week or so I think)

Spoiler:
1. Sometimes when reading testimonials for Jake Marshal, the left and right arrows disappear and you have to click the dialogue in order to continue.
2. There are certain situations when a sprite won't load and you need to "click" to skip this line. The most common occurrence is Rhea "blinking" if am not mistaken.

Thanks for the help by the way!

Very well done on this case, I'm glad I decided to play this.

Some things that made this fancase shine for others were:
- Script was very realistic and funny.
- Had a number of original characters all with their unique personalities.
- Had many plot twists, and very well done breakdown.
- Effort made into the game is obviously shown, by the details put into this.
- Very interesting ending I would love to see more often.

There were also bugs, like during the last trial, multiple "bench" graphics were shown at the same time. (e.g. defense bench and witness bench was shown.), and sometimes the sprites would "jump".

Despite the bugs, it had made no impact at all to my experience. The whole team has done well, so you all deserve a pat on the back, and you all deserve a nice cup of coffee! :trapcardcoffee:

Here's the new download link for the game:

http://www.mediafire.com/?pm5xc6222v30l9c

This version fixes most of the bugs that were specifically mentioned in this topic since the last release, as well as non-graphical bugs that were pointed out by Percei in the report he sent me.

Among the improvements are:
- Less disappearing characters (I can't guarantee I got them all, because I probably didn't get a full, detailed list of each time this happens. But the more I fix, the more the few errors that are remaining will stand out.)
- Lifebar at 100% at the beginning of trial day 2, regardless of how many penalties you got in the first day of trial.
Spoiler: investigation day 1
- You no longer get the phone at the very beginning of the game, but in the scene in Rhea's office, the way it should be.

Spoiler: trial day 2
- There should no longer be anything game breaking in Erlenmeyer's testimony.
- The CR button issues towards the end should be fixed.

One change in particular will please a lot of people:
Spoiler: investigation day 2
- The gum at the crime scene has been made much easier to spot.

You mean her first testimony, right?
There are actually several things wrong with it, all of which are in the information you get by pressing her.
I'll start by giving you the obvious one. Pressing the "Erlenmeyer ran over Judge" statement will lead you to an easy contradiction.

@'Ping

Spoiler:
It's the second one this time. This is the one where if you press statement they will ask if there's something wrong with it. This is where I'm getting confused because it's like every statement is backed up by something in the court record.

Ex: "Erlenmeyer had a hard time backing up"- This can be backed up by the fact that the rear-mirror is broken.

But there are still some issues here and there, along with graphics / sheets that need improvement.
And even the next version won't be final. As long as we think there's even a possibility we might still improve something, we won't be calling it the final version.

I remembered what you said about the order, so I thought it had something to do with the order of who died first: Arthur or Nathan. I thought the contradiction had something to do that Rhea only helped out Judge Chambers after Nathan's death, but that would contradict with the order.

Apparently, that doesn't seem to be it, since I presented the case file and I was rejected >_<

Beat it, loved it.

Spoiler: Don't read this if you haven't finished playing the game
When I started to play, I already knew it would be something as much amazing as a fanmade game can be.
The whole case's in the spirit of AJ: dark, bitter, if you could say so.
The soundtracks were.. Fitting. To the characters, to the storyline. There's an absolute balance between characters' personalities and the soundtracks, I should say.
When I saw the after-credits ending... I were just speechless.
It left a strong image in my mind. I think this ending can tell that the story isn't over. Somehow, it just left such feeling. Like the rest of AJ cases did.
That's some lesson to Apollo.. Never trust strangers. Lucky him, he learned this until he got disbarred... And, luckily he didn't get killed.
Rhea could have killed him, if you think about it. Actually, I find it all funny. She was the one who digged her own grave, indeed she was. Coming to Apollo in the first place was a mistake.
Ah, what an irony. To think that these pieces of gum she mentioned would incriminate her.. Truly amazing.

I recomend the game to everyone who hasn't played it yet. Seriously, you should..

Thanks a lot for the great feedback and support!

Spoiler:
Even though you would expect a new arc with a younger character to be "lighter and softer", I've always thought AJ to be the darkest game in the series, especially case 1 and 4. I'm extremely glad that you found AJ case 5 perpetuated some of that feeling, and that you felt the irony I tried to insert into the story.
And indeed, the game was about Apollo having no one to trust but himself, overcoming obstacles on his own so he would fully understand and make the most out of his responsibility as a lawyer, so you make a good point. With Phoenix and Trucy gone, there was certainly a temptation on his part to rely on an assistant who knew what she was doing ; had she been trustworthy to the end, the "coming into his own" storyline would have been weaker.

Wow I really feel like an idiot XD

Spoiler:
I'm starting to wonder if I presented the wrong evidence. (USB about Arthur Chambers)

Rhea's statement made Apollo think that there was some giant contradiction, but until now I've been presenting every piece of evidence I could think of related to her statement and no-go.

Her statement was something about how when Nathan died she went to researching on Arthur and she deleted most of the research when Erlenmeyer was killed since Arthur was a close friend.

Good thing Apollo saw something, because I can't >_<

Logic and absurdity often go hand in hand :p

BP, you're so evil, frankly. Even beterbomen finds you insensitive XD

Minaru, I should definitely help you now.
Spoiler: end of trial day 2
The evidence isn't the USB. Every evidence + person combination leads Apollo to believe he's found a contradiction. This was made to prevent wild guessing.
Think of what evidence is the most closely related to the actual act of killing someone. Simple inconsistencies won't do anymore ; her slip up needs to be fatal.

If you really want to know the answer:
Spoiler: end of trial day 2
It's the drugs + Erlenmeyer. After that the contradiction is obvious, so I'll let you find it.
Enjoy the ending :)

Some Thoughts about the game
Spoiler: thoughts
I laughed when I saw that Ben was one of the Mysterious Bust's victim's. Nice job with the Red Herrings. Was kinda annoying near the end with the bracelet drugs and File thing, but it adds to the challenge. The timer idea was a good idea as well. Also, Rhea was a good villian, reminded me of Dahlia a lot. I liked Apollo's character development. I'm glad he fought a prosecutor that didn't help him every 5 seconds. It made him look less NOOBish. I didn't care for Paul String's attitude towards Udgey though, especially when you hear that Strings was a part of the botched forged evidence plan.

There's one thing that kinda disappointed me, though
Spoiler: question
We never found out who told Vivian Snow about the forged evidence though. I'm pretty sure it was Paul Strings though.

Besides that though, great game.

You made some quite interesting remarks...

Spoiler:
Glad you liked the timer. The final present can be a bit annoying, I'll admit.

We spent a lot of time on red herrings. We also tried to make it about Apollo's growth as a lawyer and person, and that meant a more antagonistic prosecutor (without being Von Karma-like, as it would've been too obvious), so it's great that you got that impression.

I wanted the player to be kept in the dark about who tipped Snow off so that they could each come up with their own theory. It makes the characters seem more ambiguous and allows the player to have different interpretations of their behaviour during the case depending on who they think did it.
There is a right, or "canon", answer to that question, but if I told you, it would be less fun.

Regarding Paul Strings, he is never presented as a "nice" character. He's on the good guys' side, but his methods are more than questionable, and personality-wise he is something of a self-hating bastard.
