First off, is there another DS casemaker besides B12Core's? He junked his original version, and I don't know how long it'll take for him to develop the new one.

Second, how hard would it be to learn PWLib, and is there a way to port it to DS? I'm really hoping to have a portable editor, rather than having to edit on the computer.

That's pretty much it for now. Might have more questions later.

There is only one DS casemaker.

PWLib can be considered hard or easy depending on the person. At first it looks hard, but it gets easier along the way you start using it.
Edit: PWLib is about programming, so programmers will find it easier (specially C-like language programmers).
No, PWLib has no direct to DS because it wasn't programmed for that. AIGE's too heavy for the DS (it won't run on the DS).
Well, PWLib is pure coding, so any text editor is portable.

A real, graphical editor for PWLib might be done in the future.

so in theory, if I knew the code for PWLib, I could open a text editor in DS, and code my game?

Yes. In PWLib, the game's code is written on a simple txt file (with .hlsl extension).

I use only Notepad++ to develop PWLib and tests for it.

Thanks. You're welcome to ask anytime.

I wish I could develop a version of AIGE to run on the DS, but AIGE's too heavy for the DS in its current format (as well its design model is not suited for the DS).

I hope you don't mean to actually run your game in your DS. Because you won't be able to.

And doing that would work if you were a very experienced PWLib user, so you don't have to check PWLib in a Nuthsell (the actual Tutorial Book), nor test your code every once in a while. So, if you're just started, writing in your DS, and then testing in your PC would be too time consuming.

Unless you are using something like Win2DS, which lets you "control" your PC with your DS, according to what I read. Meh.

Good luck, anyway.

my intention is to learn the PWLib code over the next week, with minor notes written down for reference, and to code in a text editor on my DS. How would I go about exporting the game once it's finished o_0?

PWLib is for the PC, and a conversion for the DS (or a DS casemaker) may be impossible due to the different ways that the DS works. AADS works totally differently then AIGE (and PWLib).

There's no problem to have a version on the DS and a version on the PC (with PWLib).

Oh, then it'll work. But, bare in mind that AHLSL (PWLib's current main language) isn't that easy, so I doubt you'll be able to learn it in 1 week. You could print PWLib in A Nutshell, that could help a lot when writing in portable devices.

Well, once you've finished (assuming you're using a homebrew text editor with a flashcart), you just put your .hlsl file/s into it's/their appropiate folder/s, and test. You move it from your MicroSD to your PC, specifically AIGE's folder.
Was that what you meant by export?

by export I meant to export my game as either a .nds file, or as a .ppf patch, to patch onto an existing PW game, but it's clearly not been tested yet with PWLib, which is a major turn off for me.

Nah, that's impossible. Even AADS uses a different setup than the original games, so you couldn't patch with it anyway.

It might have been possible with PWSE and the tools from the defunct GS3 GBA translation project if they were still being developed.

so there's no current editor/casemaker that allows me to 'hack' a game and create an edited rom, or even a patch of some sort? And if not, are there any plans to make one?

Nah, it's pretty much impossible currently, and there are no plans to do such a thing.

You might want to look up French fan Deufeufeu...? I think he was working on a patch that would allow someone to (theoretically) insert their own script into a rom, for fan-translation purposes. But we don't allow stuff like that on here, since it's trespasses too far into the "stuff that could get us in trouble" category.

Unfortunately I don't know how to reach him. For now you might have to be satisfied with using your computer.
