Before you ask, yes, I have checked the walkthrough, but it only says "redacted" for that part. That probably means I'm being very stupid right now, but... oh well. Here goes.
Spoiler: Turnabout Consequences
I'm at the part where Pearl testifies about "being there when Maya got shot". I have already pressed all the statements, but nothing happened, so I'm guessing I have to present something. I have no idea what... Can anyone help me out here?

It's been awhile, but I believe the updated fingerprints from Watters is the evidence to present? Pearl was "there", by being in the hidden passage.

Oh, right. Thanks. I did present it. It was just at the wrong statement.

You should start a new game, using the intro2.txt file that I included. I wrote the instructions for it on the first post.

I'd do that, but I'm already past the point it puts you at... I'm at the point just after the fourth trial.

I guess I could just redo that part if I have to though... I doubt it would take THAT long.

You don't have to restart if you don't want to. As long as you can tell what evidence is what you should be fine.

How did Dreisan get Black to meet him? I'm assuming Black would be on the run, so it wouldn't be in his best interests to go see him, right?

I would like to know this too. It's been bugging me since I started playing the second half because I thought about it and couldn't come up with a plausible explanation. Maybe it was explained in the first half and we forgot about it? Either way, now that I've finished the game, I'd appreciate an explanation/reminder about this. :goodman:

Spoiler:
I admittedly didn't go into a lot of detail on how Black got to the forest. I intentionally didn't discuss it a lot, since the only living person who would know is Luciano/Dreisan, who would have zero reason to confess his method at any point of the case. So most of the details of that were left ambiguous, both for that reason and to keep suspicion on Mendirez/Yossarian up until the very end. And beyond that, I didn't really want to have players investigate a third crime scene, as T-ITU was already complicated enough.

The hints I left in the game which I can recall off of the top of my head are that:
1) Black vanished from police custody
2) He survived an initial stabbing and wasn't actually killed until the killer had possession of the shovel
3) Franziska is skeptical that it was an escape
4) Black's police escorts were found dead (whom Sir Gallante would be unlikely to kill).

So I'll let you make from that what you will.

Somebody requested that I post some of my original ideas for the game. As you might know, COI evolved quite dramatically over the course of time from its original conception. The overall outline for the game was more or less finalized by the time Turnabout on the Web was halfway finished, but before and after that there were many changes to some of the smaller details. Most of these changes I would say are very much so for the better.

These notes contain MAJOR spoilers for the game. I do not recommend reading them until you have completely finished Conflict of Interest.

Spoiler: A Turnabout Is Worth a Thousand Words
As I've said before, this case was initially passed over because it had little to no connection with the rest of the cases. I came back to it primarily to give Trucy some more screentime and to show Maya returning to the Wright Anything Agency.

In the first draft (back before The Rogue Turnabout was released), the Rivales Family was not involved. Kylie Washington killed Victor Timmons because she was jealous of the attention he was giving Lotta. She didn't kill him at a concert, but in some random field by a river. Also, she had no personality. And not in an intentional way like a certain villain in Dual Destinies... I mean in a "holy crap I actually wrote a character that bland" type of way.

Spoiler: The Rogue Turnabout
This was the first case I ever thought to make. At first, it was a standalone game, with Nick vs. Edgeworth as the prosecutor. However, after thinking it up, I decided that I should do more cases. After coming up with premises for TOTW and T-CON, I decided to have a new prosecutor who would stick with you for the whole game.

As this was the first case I finished, the changes you'll read here are much larger than the ones you'll see in other cases.

Despite the complaints some people have made... I DID initially intend to give Maya some new sprites that made her look older. And yet, at the time my spriting abilities were rather limited (see: Fonzie Larry), so I didn't feel comfortable making sprites for a character whose poses are as varied as Maya's (she has a LOT of different animations). I couldn't find any fanmade older Maya sprites that I liked. And for a wide variety of reasons (which I still agree with), I absolutely refused to use the "Maya channeling Mia" sprites to fill in for an older Maya. Another user I spoke to (who shall remain anonymous) told me that they would help make the sprites for Obadiah, and yet they never followed up on the promise and stopped responding to my messages, so I was already behind in the art department. I decided then that if I wanted to get anything done for this first case, it would have to be by myself. And so since I already had the canon sprites for Maya available, I just opted to use those. By the time TOTW came around, I considered making new ones, but even then it just didn't seem worth the effort. And by the time ATIWATW and T-Con came around, Maya's "youthful looks" had already become a running joke in the series, so there was no reason to change.

There were originally a few more characters. One was Kay Faraday, who got cut because the cast was too big. I split up all of her planned roles between Cody and Gumshoe.

Another character was a rival security guard to Wayne Parker (who at first really was just a security guard). I couldn't really think of a use for this guy, beyond that he didn't like Wayne, so I transferred that animosity over to Sarah Keyes. This guy was probably the first thing to be cut from the game.

Sir Gallante was a fairly silly character. He was essentially just a darker version of Mask De Masque. At first, I planned to use Ron Delite's costume as a base (my spriting skills back then were quite wanting, so it was difficult to do purely custom work). Needless to say, the final version is a lot more intimidating and hardly humorous at all.

Watters was a LOT more sleazy. He was pretty much just a crooked cop like Togamera, but I decided to make him nicer and more sympathetic so that I could carry him over into the next cases.

Spoiler: Turnabout on the Web
The best parts of the case didn't exist until after I finished TRT. Neither the Rivales Family nor Cody were in the first draft. Togamera was just some douche who killed a guy on a message board and happened to be an FBI agent so he could cover up during the case. He was at first only going to show up at the beginning when he kicks them out of the crime scene and then at the very end of the final investigation (and of course during the trial). I gave him a bunch more screentime after deciding to include the Rivales Family as the overarching villains of the game.

Talking to characters you know online and having Nick be oblivious to it was one of the first concepts I thought up for the case.

For a while I debated if I wanted to have "Woman" show up at the end and reveal to Nick either her name or her face (or both). In the end, I decided "Nah, screw it. Neither!"
And yes, this does mean that I have a name for her. You're just never going to know it.

I killed Cody largely for three reasons:
1) To created drama during the investigation.
2) To show that the Rivales Family weren't screwing around.
3) To test the waters for the "Pearl is the shooter" twist in the following case. I'd been a part of a roleplaying group previously where they REALLY didn't take kindly to a plot that involved Pearl getting injured, and a lot of players had thus far been displeased about Pearl being gone in TRT (though to be fair, I handled that scene rather poorly in the original release). So I was very hesitant about continuing COI, thinking that all the work would have been just to make a game that everybody would hate. Had Cody's death been received poorly, I probably would not have made the final two cases. Thankfully, people responded quite well.

Prior to writing the script of TOTW, Jimmy wasn't going to show up until T-Con, and even then it was only going to be for a very brief scene in the records room. I put him in here to introduce him earlier to the player. I kinda, sorta anticipated people suspecting him as Cody's killer, but not nearly to the degree that they actually did.

I'll post some more for the other cases when I have time to write it up.

Yeah but since I wouldn't be able to read the evidence is would be pretty hard to do the actual trial. Anyway, I redid it this morning, and it didn't take that long since I knew what to do.

Where is the tic for the second Percieve with Mortan Dreisan (during the last trial)? I've been looking for a while, and I can't find anything...

And obviously the walkthrough isn't any help to me.

EDIT: Nevermind I was looking at the wrong statement the whole time. That certainly made things more difficult.

Ropfa, I just wanna say that I'm way too impressed with how far you've gotten.

Spoiler: Conflict of Interest brief review
When I first saw TRT, I'll admit, I have low expectations for COI, especially when compared to the other Pywright first trials. But seeing it all the way through showed that there really is a treasure of a moment worth the experience. And the case overall does feel a lot better thanks to TIWATW helping out with it's setup.

TOTW and T-Con both managed to surpass my expectations for an AA fancase, and possibly even for an actual case for that matter. The former for it's setup and humor, and the latter for it's drama and character development.

The final case did make me feel confused and lack the feels at first, but the bar flipped like hell after I find out who Mendirez is, and the suspense level just keeps on ticking to a higher and higher note thanks to that. The whole case was hard as hell, but that climax is so good and fulfilled a significant part of my expectations strongly that it's beyond worth it.

I have to say though, I'm not sure if you've been told this or I'm just ignorant, but I ran into a glitch in which the "back" tab exists during evidence-exclusive moments and every time I tap them, the game presents the right evidence for me, letting me cheat my way more than once.

But overall, congratulations on this project. It's obviously all over the place, but the fact that you managed to pull a system out of it is very remarkable. I give Conflict of Interest an 8.5/10 :butzthumbs:

There seems to be a large demand for an Android version lately, particularly on Reddit. I've been told that the password scene in TOTW doesn't work, and I would imagine that perceive is a bit buggy, but apart from those I'm told that pretty much everything works well. I'm planning to release an Android version sometime soon, which removes these two mini-games (replacing them with just dialogue).

Also, there might be another update soon to fix some of the recent bugs that people have found.

I just finished the game. I really enjoyed it. The identity of the real killer surprised me, which honestly doesn't happen much in this series. There was one thing about the last case that I didn't really understand though...

I don't really think that we're asking the same question though.

I'm not even at the last cross-examination yet, and Ropfa's answer didn't include Trucy's notes. I think that the testimony I'm at is the second one after discovering Dreisan's nervous tic. You know, the one where you have to prove Dreisan/Luciano's motive as to why he would turn on Mendirez.

Hints:
Spoiler:
-The user whose account you want to use is Webb's.
-The password is case sensitive. For example, if the correct password is "Apple," then typing "apple" will be incorrect. (The real password is not "Apple").
-The password is related to a plot element of the case. It is related to Ace Fanclub.
-It is something that Webb found to be important. It is something that Webb would remember very well. (This should be your biggest hint).
-The password has letters, numbers, and one special symbol (&, $, _, !, ?, etc.).
-You have seen this word many times throughout the case.
-There was some rather large foreshadowing for Webb's password in the first day of the case.

If you still can't figure it out after those clues, then Fuandon's LP gives the answer.

I have found a game-breaking bug in case 5.

If you open the Court Record while :trucy: is investigating, the game will crash and exit.
While questioning Dreisan, :trucy: has to present some evidence.
Then the Court Record will open, the game will crash and cannot be played further.

Yeah, this bug shows up in a lot of places, but it's easy to fix. It happen when PyWright tries to access a page in the Court Record that no longer exists, due to evidence getting removed and decreasing the page count. To fix it, load a save from before you switch to Trucy, go into the Court Record, and make sure that you Evidence and Profiles are both on the first page. Once Trucy starts investigating, you should be able to open the Court Record without it crashing.

Yep, perceive works on Android. I'm nearing the end of case 5 now and the only time I've had any trouble was case 3's password.

EDIT: Yep, finished the game now, and can confirm 100% that the password is the only thing that doesn't work.

Incorrect computer info.
Spoiler: Turnabout Unknown
I'm loving the game so far, but in the part where Gladys Porter's body is found, it says that no data could be recovered from the computer because the CPU had been destroyed. The CPU is just a processing chip, it doesn't actually store any data. The data of a computer is stored in the hard drive. In this case, it should say that the hard drive was destroyed, not the CPU.

Hi guys,

I have been trying to play Conflict of Interest on my Samsung Galaxy S6, using Pywright(0.9880), and noticed that every thing is very laggy (including the music). Some people seem to have played CoI on Android, but I dont see how that could work with this speed. Anyone else experienced the same?

Hi guys,

I have been trying to play Conflict of Interest on my Samsung Galaxy S6, using Pywright(0.9880), and noticed that every thing is very laggy (including the music). Some people seem to have played CoI on Android, but I dont see how that could work with this speed. Anyone else experienced the same?

Can't really help you too much with the Android version myself. I've personally never even touched the Pywright core coding or the Android files. That's a bit over my skill level. Some people have played the game on Android and didn't mention any problems apart from one specific section, but different people have said that there are various interface bugs. So I can't really tell you what the issue is.

As far as I am aware right now, Pywright doesn't really have anybody fully dedicated to tech support, as the two people we've had in the past have moved on. So any problems with the Android version may or may not get fixed unless somebody steps up to the challenge.

PC and Mac versions both work fine, so you can always try those.

Spoiler:
I examined the desk in the Penthouse in TRT and I didn't get a piece of evidence. All LPers I watched on YT got the parking ticket thingies.

If you mean the note, it was removed in the later versions of the game. Maybe you're missing the murder weapon?
P.S.: if you go to the "games" folder of your PyWright archive, you'll find walkthroughs for all the cases in the games. Might help!

I think I did forget to remove "examine the desk" from the walkthrough. Don't worry, you're not missing anything.

Firstly, I must compliment you Ropfa on the sheer quality of this fangame. The stories and cases are some of the best fan-works I've seen period, and canon characters are used well. Turnabout on the Web has overtaken Turnabout Scapegoat as my favourite fan case, and that's really saying something.

I'm also amazed at how
Spoiler:
in a game that makes the Big Bad's name and role known early on, you STILL managed to pull a fast one on us. I've noticed most people guessed bits and pieces of the big reveal, but I don't think I've seen anyone who guessed exactly what was going on. Me, I suspected Driesen, but I thought he was Mendirez. (I also thought his beard was fake and pulling it off would be the dramatic reveal, but that's beside the point)

Other notes on heavy Case 5 spoiler:
Spoiler:
The final testimonies were done very well, and I like how he manages to still play you while never clearly admittin to anything, and forcing you to expose Mendirez' Gallante connection in court was genius. My one complaint is that I found his sprites for the very last testimony to be more silly than scary. Maybe it's the joined hands, and his hunched-over pose. I actually felt his "normal Driesen but with creepy smile" sprites were more fitting of a final villain.

However, the full art of him holding Watters hostage more than made up for that. THAT is pretty much how I expected him to look in full Big Bad mode.

Also, since you seem to appreciate people editing the TV Tropes page for the game, I thought I'd mention something related to that and major Case 5 spoilers:
Spoiler:
Putting tropes for the Big Bad on the character pages is a bit awkward, seeing as he's represented by THREE profiles: Francisco Mendirez (as the imposter), Morton Driesen and Carlo Luciano. At the moment, I'm going with a system of:

Everything related to the orders he gave his subordinates, and Hackins's murder, goes under Mendirez.
Everything related to Carlo Luciano's reputation and his role in MN-6 goes under Luciano.
Everything related to him pre-reveal, and in the final trail, goes under Driesen.

However, I'm wondering if we should just make a separate folder entitled "Final Case Villan: MAJOR SPOILERS WITHIN" to put everything under, and keep the other profiles spoiler-free, much like Turnabout of Courage's Characters page. It would make things a bit less confusing, and avoid accidently spoiling new players. (Driesen's section under ToTW is now spoilery enough to raise a lot of eyebrows).

I mostly posted here though to point out what is maybe a glitch in an LP video I watched. It's at 7:57 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbGuVSz_U64 but be warned that it pertains to HEAVY CASE 5 SPOILERS:
Spoiler:
It's in the Revisualization segment. When prompted who was the inside person who told Trucy the info, the player presented Luciano's profile right there, and it cut straight to "Luciano never died!" Something tells me this might have been jumping the gun. I haven't played the case, only watched it, but I'm guessing you're meant to present Driesen there, leading into more questions, which eventually brings the autopsy into question and leads to "Luciano never died".
Is this an issue?

Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to make this amazing fangame.

Actually, I have seen one person who guessed the final plot twist before it was revealed. Darth Wiader was beta testing for me and even while we were still testing the investigation scenes, he had figured it out.

I don't really feel it's my place to edit that page. I think I changed one thing on it years back and haven't since. I prefer to just sit back and read what other people have put down. Thank you for the thoughts though, and if anybody else wishes to organize it, Tv Tropes is of course free-to-edit for anyone.

Good job to them then. I also noticed someone guessed that
Spoiler:
Sir Gallante was being financed by a member of the Family
from the very early days of this thread, when TRT had just come out. (Did you have that plot detail planned since the beginning or was that added later?) It's always the mark of a good AA twist when it's surprising, yet still possible to figure out ahead of time.

Just started the case and haven't gotten that far, but here's a slight bug I found...

Spoiler:
In Porter's office, after you find the bottle and tablet in the web of lies books, if you go back into examine, it shows the office zoomed out, but once you click anywhere on the screen it changes back to the close up of the books and the dialogue appropriate for that. It then gives you the option to back up one level of zoom, but it instead goes back to the whole office again, where, upon clicking anywhere you get the picture and dialogue for the body close-up. That then gives you the option of backing up again and you actually get back to the proper wide office view which then works as normal.

Hope that all makes sense, I think it seems fairly obvious what has happened and that it's just the way that it displays the wide office when you go to examine, when it still thinks that it's zoomed right in, but just thought I'd let you know.

THOSE TIN CANS ARE NO MATCH FOR ME!!

Case 5 was goood. I love it when I have no clue what's going at the end of Day 2, and then everything comes crashing together at once. A few notes on the final day 3 segment:

Spoiler:
I felt misled on the second testimony (the one after Trucy's percieve). The third+fourth presses and the partner dialogue hinted strongly at "Prove his motive here", and I spent a lot of time presenting on the motive-related second and fourth statements. I was rather miffed when the correct present was on the super general fifth statement.

I'm hazy on why the bottle was so important, nor was I sure why Pearl's testimony would should Luciano was alive. Sure it could vindicate the chef and implicate Mendirez, but I don't see how it'd conclusively show anything else.

And a super nitpick, but I felt the "Are you using a lack of proof as proof" line was a super weak rebuttal. Kylee had a stronger case and Pheonix still easily pulled the jury card on her. I was expecting Pheonix to say "One murder was almost certainly done by someone with no fingerprints, you are a one-eyed fingerprintless man unusually knowledgeable for a coroner about the workings of a crime syndicate. That don't fly no more, no jury will possibly believe that's all coincidence". Ah well.

Oh and I'm curious about the alt-path, but not so much that I'd replay a five hour trial! I've heard the gist from Tv Tropes, but haven't found a playthrough on that alt-path.

Spoiler:
In the Pearl Goes Free path, how exactly do Mendirez and Luciano die? Do they just kill each other in the struggle? And what exactly is the forged evidence Williamson presents, what was he trying to prove with it, and how does he get found out?
