Ace Attorney Legacy: Clay Justice, also known as "Shin Gyakuten Saiban: Odoroki Daichi-bengoshi"/"新逆転裁判:王泥喜 大地弁護士" (New Turnabout Trial: Attorney Clay Justice), is a fangame 23 years after the events of AC:AA

Characters:
Clay M. Justice (Daichi Odoroki), 23, Lawyer
Mercenary of Lawyership
The son of Apollo and Athena, Clay is a trusted lawyer, and cares about the truth as much as he cares about the fate of his clients.
Special Abilities: Perception. Apollo passed his bracelet onto Clay.
Name origin: "Clay" is self-explanatory. He was named after Clay Terran, Apollo Justice's deceased childhood friend A.K.A the victim of 5-4. The "M" stands for "Metis", which comes from Athena's mother's name, Metis Cykes.
Style: He's a gamer, and very calm, even though he practices his Chords of Steel like his father did. Likes to work out still wearing his suit. He was (and still is) good at golf, and keeps his bag by his desk. He's multilingual, a trait inherited from his mother, Athena. (French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese)
Legal Methods: Clay does not tolerate dishonest means, such as fabricating evidence and manipulating witnesses. He believes that only truth and faith are the key to victory in court.
Favorite Color: "Don't really give a damn about it, as long as it's dark in color."

Maria Justice (Mari Odoroki), 19, College Student
The Princess of Charisma
Apollo and Athena's only daughter, and Clay's trusty sister. (and partner.) Maria is a first year in the criminal justice department at Ivy U, and her brother, Clay's assistant and partner.
Special Abilities: Perception. Received from Thalassa after she died of illness.
Name origin: "Maria" comes from Mari Kidzuki, Metis Cykes' Japanese name.
Style: She's a music lover, and an energetic and charismatic girl. Likes to wear skimpy outfits.
Favorite Color: "Green and light purple all the way!"
Fears: Genophobia. Bring up sex-related stuff in front of her, you get a face full of Clay's deadly knuckles.

Percy Wright (Ryuuta Naruhodou), 20, Clay's apprentice
Heir to the Turnabout

Ryan Blackquill (Kenta Yuugami), 24, Prosecutor
A Samurai of Convictions
The illegitimate son of Simon Blackquill, Ryan Blackquill is the prosecutor in charge of most of Clay's cases. Has a sharp blade, and a hawk named Gari. (Taka+Gari=Japanese Falconry, AKA Takagari)
Name origin: It was my friend's idea.
Style: He wears a surcoat similar to his father's, and he's also calm, until you make him angry.
Favorite Color: "Heh. I'm not Ryan BLACK-quill for nothing."
Methods: Ryan is the type of prosecutor who doesn't tolerate dishonesty and cheating, and even goes as far to keep a trial going until the truth is revealed. In his three year career, he has never won a false conviction.
Spoiler: Plot
Case 1: Turnabout Offspring

Defense Attorney: Apollo Justice
Defendant: Clay M. Justice
Prosecutor: Kreien Payne
Victim: Claire Terran, 19, Teen actor

Voice casting
Here are styles for the voices:
Clay Justice: Fox McCloud - Star Fox: Assault
Percy Wright: Use Phoenix's UMvC3 clip(s)
Ryan Blackquill: Vergil - DMC3 (With a British-Japanese accent)
Apollo Justice: PLvsAA: Phoenix Wright
Phoenix Wright: Same as Phoenix's DD voice from Tyranee's Let's Dub Project.
Simon Blackquill: Use his DD voice clips.

Rated M for the following:

Murder, Blood, Language

I can imagine he working in the Wright Anything agency, and some older Characters... :hobohodo:
His special ability is Perception... looks like Apollo can't perceive... or Thalassa died... well, what comes first. :lana:
Hmmmmm... Hey, and if the main prosecutor be Klavier's son/daughter? And one of the case Junie can be the Judge and get some envy of the little Thena. (Come on, Junie LOVES Apollo, and Vera and... Athena. Yeah, hard choice. :eh?: )
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand... his assistance... Oh, well, I think I want too much Spoiler...
Using a name different of the usual... it's a good idea, but... what do you have in mind, bro?

The title of this fangame has now been set as "Ace Attorney: The Justice Legacy." I also introduced two new characters, Maria Justice and Ryan Blackquill.

You should probably work on finish your previous fangame before starting a thread about the sequel... in terms of the story itself, some of the elements seem a bit dark, namely Maria's backstory, which could be potentially seriously triggering to some people. I think that's something you ought to just scrap entirely.

I don't mean to be rude, but I WANT a dark backstory, and if people get offended... frankly, fuck em... It's not their place to say what an author can and can't do

I don't think you understand... people can have panic attacks and other serious disorders caused by stuff like that. It's a serious condition and it's most certainly not just "getting offended". If he wants to do it then he certainly can, but he should at least label it with a trigger warning and understand it'll turn some people off from the game entirely, including myself.

Exactly. That includes
Spoiler: 5-5
Athena repressing most of her memories of the UR-1 Incident due to her mother's death. Also, Simon Blackquill's memories don't count, he lied.

I'm doing double work on both AC:AA and AA:TJL. This fangame will use the Dual Destinies music. And I assure you, the game gets darker.

???????? What does that have to do with actual people possibly getting triggered by something in your fangame? I'm just asking that you be wiling to put a trigger warning if you're going to include something like that.

I won't tell you what to put or not put in your own game, but keep in mind that something like that will completely set the mood for the rest of the game, since this is an incredibly sensitive subject. If you don't tread carefully here, you can guarantee that your game will get a bad reception. Also, expect zero sympathy for the perpetrator at all. Once your audience finds out what happened, they'll be rooting for his violent comeuppance the entire way (maybe that's what you want... up to you).

I'd agree with the idea about adding a disclaimer. Something like that would not be what you'd generally expect in an Ace Attorney game.

It might be a good idea to specify that is is a potential trigger for rape victims specifically, but it's better than nothing.

Nice artwork :D

I like Clay and Maria's design

Clay seems like the typical "satirical/sarcastic protagonist" we all come to know and love throughout the series

I'm implementing a new feature into this game, similar to Logic Chess. I call it "Justice Duel". the difference between Logic Chess and Justice Duel is that you get a health bar instead of a timer, and it takes place during a trial segment. If the health bar runs out, you have to restart from the beginning, with a 5% penalty being inflicted. Answer a question properly to restore 10 points. When the witness has revealed a fact, you have to press the "Attack" button and then Clay will yell "A-ha!" and break down part of the witness' defense, indicated by a shield. Destroy all the shields to complete the Justice Duel. Doing so will bring forth new testimony.

Sorry, but that's not going to work out for you.
http://aceattorney.sparklin.org/forum/v ... =12&t=3737
AAO has a set of waaay stricter rules than court-records, including no swearing other than light swearing (as you would see in the normal AA games) as well as no overly-sexual content. Considering how this series is practically based around this whole rape theme (something I still strongly feel like you should NOT be doing considering how dark a theme it is), AAO isn't going to work out for you.
I'd furthermore say that this entire project is ill-fated anyway, considering you've ALREADY got a full scale fangame planned but w/e

Actually, as long as it's not "public" (as in, you need the link to access it) and you don't advertise it on AAO, it's ok

The rules specifically state "These rules apply to all cases created using Ace Attorney Online.", so I don't know where exactly you're getting that knowledge from. Furthermore, AAO6 requires that a case be set to public, otherwise it only works for collaborators and playtesters. But maybe you're right, I don't know :ron:

The rape thing kind of feels like "dark for the sake of being dark." Dual Destinies dealt with dark themes but it went about it all wrong. Apollo Justice is still the darkest game of the series because it handled its themes with subtlety. I'll be the first to eat my words if I'm wrong but I don't have faith in this project, especially considering you're already dealing with another fan game

I generally don't like fan games except for the contempt of court, though, so what do I know?

Well, I won't say I don't like fan games, considering I've only played four (one of which I really liked and another that I thought was ok. I won't name them, though, at risk of hurting feelings). I guess I'm just kind of a novice at playing them. The only thing that pisses me off about fan games is that the scrolling text is WAY too slow and it almost never changes. In the actual AA games, it can speed up or slow down at key spots. In fan games (in my experience) they're always at a set speed and the only times it changes speed is when it gets slower. It makes it hard to play a lot of

Alright, I've come up with character personality lists and Case 1 information!
Spoiler: Case 1
Defense Attorney: Apollo Justice
Defendant: Clay M. Justice
Prosecutor: Kreien Payne
Victim: (Still deciding a name)
It's the day before Clay takes the bar exam, and all of a sudden, he winds up as the suspect in his best friend's sister's murder.

Spoiler: Personality
Clay Justice: Calm, strong, and determined.
Maria Justice: Energetic, excited, impatient
Daniel Terran: Arrogant, strong, determined

And that reminds me, I did some art for Dan and 49-year old Apollo. Take a gander:

Change of plans: Daniel's voice will be Phoenix's from UmvC3.

Also, I have more info about Justice Duel.

Justice Duel's Showdown mode occurs at the end of an argument, where you have to present a piece of evidence contradicting what he/she says during the duel, resulting in Clay, Daniel or Apollo yelling "A-ha!"

[rebuttal=]Prosecutor Drvonkitty. Before I changed the script, you said that I based the theme and backstory around Maria's attempted rape incident. However... *desk slam* I didn't even write "Background" anywhere. So just because I wrote that she suffered from androphobia doesn't mean that that the rape thing was part of the game's theme!

That is the defense's explanation.[/rebuttal]

Lots of stories contain rape themes, even very tame network tv often contains rape in its subject matter. It is true it can be a trigger - so can many other elements in stories. From a storytelling perspective, it has often been over or badly used, so one should be careful when choosing to include it.

Just because something can limit an audience isn't a reason alone to avoid it. I think the biggest danger here is that these are existing characters that are being taken to this dark place, so people are going to be upset by it. I was pretty upset by the path that Turnabout Substitution went though, and people have enjoyed that. And fan fiction does this kind of stuff ALL THE TIME.

I think it's a bit premature to get upset about this before seeing how it is handled. If you don't like these kind of dark topics, by all means avoid this game - I don't think the author means for people who would be disturbed to be hurt.

If handled respectfully I think this could make a quality case, but if handled badly it could backfire. Overall this sounds pretty strong! All these kids hehe.

I love dark topics and I sat through Clockwork Orange without blinking. Rape in an Ace Attorney game simply wouldn't mesh. I think it would be damn near impossible to handle correctly

I don't remember the original story but wasn't one of the main character's personalities based on the fact she was raped, the prosecutor was a rapist, and the final case involved rape as a possible motive? It's not the theme of the game, but there is a theme of rape and the game is heavily based around it. But if you're going to scrap the rape story, what's replying to drvonkitty going to accomplish?

And drvonkitty's point was that AAO simply wouldn't allow it

In terms of the story itself, some of the elements seem a bit dark, namely Maria's backstory, which could be potentially seriously triggering to some people. I think that's something you ought to just scrap entirely.

I have no idea what you're even trying to say at this point, and it doesn't help that you're trying to roleplay as if this discussion is Ace Attorney game. :ron:

In terms of what you're trying to say, I don't think whether it's a part of the game's theme or not is important. The fact that it's in the series, whether it's major or not, will prevent you from being on AAO.

And I'm glad that you've changed it to murder instead of rape, even if it's "all my fault". I appreciate you taking the time to listen to people leaving comments (which were overwhelmingly on my side, other than Blizdi and now saluk), it says good things about you as an author.

Yes, there are many, many mediums that attempt to tackle rape in their stories. However, most of these fail because touching on such sensitive subject matter is VERY hard to pull off as a writer. And I mean no offense to you, Gyakuten Fanatic, but according to your profile, you're only 14. I have a very hard time believing that you would be able to write this convincingly and well, when experienced adult authors have failed many times.

I apologize if I've come off as condescending.

Also I was ninja'd by JM and yes, replying to me doesn't seem to accomplish anything, really.

I concede. Putting that aside... I'm trying to find a way to implement two separate Health bars into one trial segment, one for penalties and one for my "Justice Duel" mechanic. Anyone know if this is possible in PyWright? (That's right, it's not AAO) If not, I can just scrap this idea and replace it with venser's Mood Matrix script.

Also, I need to get ideas for the other cases. Case 5 will involve
Spoiler:
the reason Ryan tried to kill Maria.

Yes you can indeed use multiple penalty bars: http://pywright.com/docs/#penalty
Example:
Code:
penalty variable=justice threat=20

I don't think there is a built-in way to show both penalty bars at once. You also can't at the moment use different art for each bar unless you separate the justice duel sections into separate cases.
