Okay, this thread is me basically announcing that I'm creating a fangame for Phoenix Wright, set after PW3 (and between other fangames :phoenix: )

Everything will be done on PyWright.

Five cases, four of them being from Phoenix's point of view.

1. Turnabout Meeting
2. Turnabout Bullseye
3. Turnabout Facade
4. ?????
5. Turnabout Vacation

Status:

Turnabout Meeting:

During a day long meeting with its protégées and a group of friends, Mrs Strycter is killed from a blow to the head. One investigation and one trial later, Phoenix Wright closes the chapter. But then he finds out that he has been forced to defend the very same person he had pointed as the killer in that trial. Can Wright find evidence that can clear the name of his new client while avoiding the very same (although circumstantial) evidence he had pointed in the trial?

Three Investigation phases, Three Trial phases. The first Investigation and the first Trial are supposed to work as the Tutorials, while the rest of the case is as the rest of the turnabouts.

Idea/Development of the idea: 100%. Have every profile, every piece of evidence, every detail of the death of the victim, and an outline of the Investigations and Trials.

Script: 100% COMPLETE

Character Design: 100% :

Sprites: 15%:HELP NEEDED If you wish to help please leave a message or contact me and we'll work something. I would send you the sketches, so you know what could be the intended result!

Background: ????:

Coding: 12%
:

So, as a tl;dr: HELP NEEDED
in the spriting and background categories. And it is likely that, sooner or later, I'll need help in the black and white images.

What I could offer in exchange of the help...well, to be honest, I'm not sure. Besides credit, Beta Testers will be needed, so I guess that is a possibility. Giving money in exchange of the help isn't a possibility...

So yeah, that is it.

I'll make sure to post any progress on this project. I'm somewhat busy, so this may take long, but I'll take as long as one needs for this to be a good case.

If you have any questions about the actual state of the turnabout, then please ask them! I'll do my best to answer them.

A massive thanks to Mr. Incognito, also known as Ceres, who spent hours combing through Japanese visual novel databases in order to compile two incredibly large background packages. An additional package, which is slightly smaller than the largest package, was linked from Court Records a number of years ago, although said link is now dead and lost...

Three background packages are available. All of them feature different backgrounds from one another. Please post in this thread if the links are dead!

Ceres/Mr. Incognito's Packages

300+ Backgrounds (Folder titled '2011')
1300+ Backgrounds

Third Package

900+ Backgrounds

If you need somebody's opinion on your cases - investigations, trials, logic, dialogues, etc - I can give you a hand. Also as Beta-tester, but I suppose it will be in a distant future. Will your first case be the usual tutorial case? Trial without investigation or something else? Also, are you sure you can make a five-case game? I'm not saying you can't, but it will be a hard connecting them all. Even 3 or 4 is already hard, but still, I welcome such an enthusiasm (I'm also making a fangame). Talk to people, listen what they're saying, but control your thinking at the same time. Sometime you might encounter difficulties with something and you might need to drop something and change your ideas completely. It's a natural process and it can be easier than overcomplex something good.
With that said, well, good luck.

Oh God, I clicked "PM" instead of "Quote". Way to go, Salavarrieta, your attention at details has helped you once again.

The outline of the first case is that it is divided into two parts: one single Investigation phase, plus one single Trial phase, while the other two can be classified as the Turnabout itself, in the description.

To be honest I'm rather unsure of the Tutorial part. I may as well consider turning it into a normal Investigation and normal Trial, without explanation on how to use the general game and that jazz. After all I doubt that this will be the first thing an inexperienced PW player will play. I guess that I'll make both possibilities and decide which one would fit better.

Yeah, five cases. I have a very, very rough sketch of four and how they're connected. Right now the connections are more of a case connecting to the next one, and all of them having a little something that goes towards the last case.

Thank you for your words, I'll take them to heart.

Okay, I need people to critique my spriting style.

This is my style, and if there is something wrong then please tell me, as it is likely that any other sprite I create will have the same mistakes if they aren't pointed soon. Here is a sample, one of the characters for the case.

Please, critique.

Her blink animation similar to Redd White, but it's freaking me out a little. Hands without fingers - hmmm. The body is not outlined. Other than that all - it's still better than me who can't do sh*t. You need more practice.

Progress Report #001:

Sprites: 5%---8%
Coding: 2%---5%
Script: 4%---15%

Sprites are the things that take the most time to be ready.
Corrected some stuff in the general outline. Fixing testimonies and general case.

Progress Report #002

Sprites: 8%---10%
Coding: 5%---12%
Script: 15%-45%

*Huge progress on the script of the first case. So far it has reached the second trial phase. Completed the script of 2 Investigations and one trial phase
*Sprites of the prosecutor are starting to be created. All the characters of the first case (OCs) has been defined, at least in the form of sketches and personality.
*Coding is going well, using placeholder sprites. So far, coded until half of the first trial.

Progress Report #003

Sprites: 10%---11%
Coding: 12%---15%
Script: 45%-85%

*Script is almost finished! The only thing left is to finish the last trial part.
*I'm done selecting every music part needed for the case. Awesome! Although I asked JoekerTrack for help with this part, so the music selected isn't definitive.
*Tweaking sprites. The existing sprites work perfectly now.
*I created a little something. It isn't THE BEST GAME ART EVER, as well, I'm not an artist. Still, here it is.

What? It is obvious who I based on the sprite? Either way, I tried my best to modify the general face, and well, one could say that the changes are leaning much more towards the "subtle" side. I guess one can only see them if one overlays the original sprite on the modified one.

Not my best sprite job, but I guess that it is only more noticeable as well, it is in a size much bigger than normal.

Progress Report #004

Sprites: 11%---15%
Script: 85%-100%

*Script is complete. Now the only thing left is to turn it into code...after I make the sprites. Either that, or with placeholder sprites. The thing is, it is finished!

*Spriting is going slowly. Very slowly. At this pace, all the sprites needed will be finished in a few weeks.

Take as much time as you need on the artwork. I generally don't take points off a game due to less-than-stellar artwork, as I realize how difficult it can be to get stuff looking properly (being rather mediocre with drawing myself). However, there are definitely people out there who will. Sprite making is srs biznes, so don't rush it.

Not trying to scare you, but that's the way things are, unfortunately.

Yeah, I realize that.

I'm trying to create god sprites, and well, they don't happen instantly. It was mostly a notification that progress is slow, so this will take time

There was not much, but there was some drastic changes in the script. A lot of lines has been rehashed and replaced. Besides that, there isn't much to report this week.

Still working on sprites. Not much progress, due to being busy.

BUT...I'm currently trying to pass every single page from the script into Word, for proofreading. I have it written on a notebook.

So, I'll need help, somebody who proofreads the script.
If you wish to help and don't mind being heavily spoiled, then please leave me a message.

I also started writing the overall form for Case #2, and Ropfa was very kind to offer himself to do the voice of one of the characters in that case. Thank you, Ropfa!

That is it.

This is quick note to notify that the project is far from being dead! I still work on it everyday.

I stopped making weekly reports, mainly because, due to time constraints, they would turn really repetitive. I'm progressing, but at a slow pace.

So thank you for your patience, people

If you need a proof reader and/or a beta tester, I would be happy to help.
(by proof reading you mean that i look for grammar errors and tell if the story is good/makes sense, right?)
(and then i tell them to you)

I'm not really the best sketcher but I wouldn't call myself the worst, if you want just tell me what character you wish for me to draw and how you want me to draw them and I'll try my best to have them meet your expectations.

Please reply at your earliest convenience.
