Prosecutor A.A. Thread: Update 1

Hello those of the Court Records forum. Myself, along with currently 5 other people I am making a fan game of Ace Attorney based around the prosecutor. After searching, I found that this has never been done before and that quite honestly surprised me. Nonetheless, we are trying to make this a reality. Here is a overview of what we have so far (no plot elements will be revealed quite yet).

Gameplay:

Anticipation (Basically just cross-examination with a twist):
Anticipation is our regular court game play. As mentioned above, it's basically just cross-examination. However, as prosecutor cross-examination isn't something you want to do. Thus, the initial finding of contradictions will be you finding the contradictions in your own witness's testimony. Then, you will refute the claim the defense makes with evidence of your own.

Witness testimony:
This is similar to the Magatama. Again, similar to cross-examination, you will find potential weaknesses in witness testimony and cover them up. Of course, you being the hero, you won't go too far with this, however the game play mechanic is still there.

And 1 other game play mechanic that shall not be discussed until finalized

Characters:
Spoiler:
Keep in mind that NONE of these character's names are final. I get that some might sound stupid.

Taiten Mosten
First up is your rookie prosecutor, Taiten Mosten (A play on the word ostentatious. Ostentatious basically means a show-off.) And yes, his name does apply to him. He's going to start out extremely confident and cocky, and although we plan to have that degrade the part of him will still stay alive. We're going to have him also be a little bit of a nerd to get the sympathy of players (no offense lmao).

Kylee Mosten
Her name is unfortunately not a pun, however Kylee is the wife of your hero. We wanted to be able to represent a deeper connection with our characters. Kylee is your assistant as well. She is a detective and can work with the police during your investigations. Using this we were also able to shorten investigations and make them more interactive at the same time.

Lucas Lowe
Lucas Lowe is the defense rival in this game. He's going to have that generic television "law" character. Based off of Rob Lowe (Rob Lowe, Lucas Lowe) 's performance in the TV show "The Grinder." Right now we don't have much else to say about him.

Potential New Members:

Please if you fit any of the categories we need, help us out! Make this game a reality!

IF WE DO NOT GET A SPRITER SOON THE GAME WILL BE CANCELLED

-Expert on game engines (right now we are running off of GameMaker: Studio. Which, let me tell you, is not exactly built for this type of thing. It will work, but won't function very smoothly)

-Sprite Artist (If we get multiples we may hire both of you just to lessen the work load on the other member)

That is all for now. Our current team is 4 for script (yes, 4. We are the untalented division that gets pretty creative with words and plot elements) and 1 person that we found on reddit for music. He's very talented, so we won't be needing any more music creators. Thanks to any who help us out! If we get at least 1 of those 2 positions filled I'll start updated the thread with spoiler-free plot information. Thanks!

Hey! This sounds interesting. The features you describe sound possible to do in the PyWright engine. As I understand, you're kind of going for an AAI esque game(?), so that isn't too hard to do in PyWright. That last game mode that you're not mentioning though does make me uncertain, but the rest sound doable. You could always ask for help on these forums If you pick PyWright. You have Ropfa, DudeWithAMask, and may other greats here :p

I hope this comes to light, though!

Sounds interesting and I AM surprised that no one has done it before.

If you are having trouble with the devilish nature of the "hero" you should check out "Devils Attorney" a fun game about an actual slick and dirty attorney being a hero to legitimate criminals.

Its more proof that if your protagonist is full of enough charm that you can get away with the villainous stuff.

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

There is actually at least one other fangame where you play as the prosecutor here. Still, this has an interesting concept.

I think it would be actually interesting to give the player the option to lie during these sections. It would help make the game more different than trials where you play as the defense, and having a theme about morality would make the game more interesting, seeing how the biggest problem with prosecutor cases is that you lose the mystery aspect of playing as the defense (as you already know who the culprit is). It's still up to you how you implement this, of course, and you should not try to do anything that seems to complex in your first trial.

Thanks for the response! The final gameplay mechanic that we have planned right now is very basic. It's the gimmick of the game (Like Phoenix's Magatama and Apollo's Bracelet). Pretty much the only thing we need finalized is what is going to cause this to happen. But basically, it's our excuse for making up opening statements, changing witness testimony, and potentially other things as the plot advances. Really if everything else is possible this should be too.

Interesting. I wouldn't say a fangame starring the Prosecutor is completely new, but every single time it appears, the style is different, so I am interested in how this will work out.

For one piece of advice in writing the story, remember that the AA legal system is heavily biased towards prosecutors, so try to work around this somehow.

Sorry to keep bugging. This is the final time I will mention it. If we do not get a spriter soon, the game will be cancelled. Please, if you can make decent sprites that would be so helpful. Sounds strange, but I'm extremely hyped for my own game. I want to see this happen. Please please help.

I would recommend you start coding the game using already existing sprites. After all, most spriters aren't willing to help with a game for free if they don't know the quality the game itself will have. For now you most focus mostly on the writing and use stock sprites for now, or you will never get much done with the game.

UPDATE

The game is taking a new direction. Thanks to CesarZero (I'm typing this off the top of my head sorry if i spelled it wrong) I have decided to make a demo case that will showcase the personality of the characters, most gameplay elements, and will be totally fan service. The reason for this is to ensure quality in what we will be making and hopefully get a spriter on board. It's going to feature steel samurai elements (that's the fan service I was talking about) and will be totally non-canon to the rest of the game. For now, we will recolor sprites of existing characters.

Right now I am planning everything about the case and will probably start writing the script soon.
