ok guys i'm new here... don't throw me any coffee yet...
so, we all here are Gyakuten Saiban fans right?

well as I do too, I was wondering if we can make Gyakuten Saiban 3D

FYI: I'm game designer in training

Well the concept is simple, since the game is rendered in 2D, we turn it all to 3D
While Examining the scene, we present the 3D scene that can be rotated (that adds more challenge)
then, all the conversation is now rendered in 3D with the same perspective like in Gyakuten Kenji
next, the Court Record is all in 3D, including the Profile too.
The platform... well it's for PC of course.
What do you guys say? I think it will be the greatest experience if we can make these

I'll post some PC lookalike concept later

PS: I'm asking an opinion

Before I begin with my thoughts, this thread would be better off in the Phoenix Wright forum.

Firstly, I think by doing so, you're removing a lot of its charm. One of the good qualities I like about Phoenix Wright is that it's portable, so I can play it on the bus or at College. Putting a game on PC kind of destroys that.

Secondly, I don't see how important graphics can be in a visual novel. I mean, it's not like there are any major action scenes that would not be understandable at all in its current display of sprites, text and images.

If a crime scene is in 3D, then all scenes must be in 3D. That means having to fill out the stuff that'd normally be behind you and not important. They'd really have to flesh out the case even more to get all sides of the crime scene tied in some way or another, otherwise it's pointless to be there. Hypothetically speaking, if I were a killer and I wanted to kill someone, I would be careful to leave little traces of my presence. If crime scenes are in 3D, there'd have to be points of evidence around the entire room. Seeing all the critical evidence on just one side seems a little more sensible and makes the killer look less like a doofus.
Spoiler: Do a nice thing today,
Give your computer some love. <3

yeah... one of the eccentric of Gyakuten is that the game is portable...
But we know right? about the PC version of this game

well about how important about graphic on visual novel... well let me put Another Code (Wii) that's one of many 3D Visual Novel that you can find
that just well looking fresh

Yes, all the scene will be 3D, it's basically like you play Gyakuten Kenji, but in 3D. Maybe more like First Person view too
well the way the crime scene in 3D must be more smarter than 2D version...
more like fans like crime scene model :p

One thing that really attract me on Gyakuten, is the character expresion. I always wondering if all that character turn into 3D and like... wow funny :p

The biggest difficulty into making a 3D game is to find skilled 3d artists with free time, but the idea is good.

AIGE (PWLib's core engine) has very young 3D capabilities (including a very simple 3D camera) so if this project lives on, I can help (even expanding AIGE's 3D core).

@Coppo: Well, every single fangame is on the PC >_> He's talking about making a 3D GS fangame, not about having Capcom Please let it be Capcom and not Konami make the GS games in 3D on the PC.

Anyway, definitely possible, and like just about every single fangame we've seen the biggest part will probably be the graphics. I mean, you'd need to make 3D character models instead of just 2D sprites.

The characters don't have to be 3d - it worked for hotel dusk. I think a 3d investigation mode would be pretty cool, although hard to pull off. 3d editing takes a lot more work than drawing things in 2d, which is why so many independant games are still 2d (or mostly 2d), although that is starting to change. In my opinion, 3d is the main reason why it became impossible for one or a 3 man team to make a complete, commercial quality game, and instead, games take millions of man-hours to produce.

I would guess this is possible in pwlib, although probably pretty difficult to use. Maybe it will be the next thing KSA adds after GK features :)

Programming a game from scratch though to support this scenario might be the best way to go though.

There have been games such as this in 3d, but they are rare. Unsolved mysteries for the DS made really good use of the 3d crime scene investigation, for example. I think the CSI games for pc are mostly 3d as well, if I remember right. And all of the telltale games are 3d - they use their own tool for it. I thought they were going to release it at some point but I can't find it now.

Wrong. AIGE's very capable of doing it, and if some feature is missing, I can add it on the fly.

I don't know if PWLib can run this 3D engine
I was thinking about using Lite-C although maybe it's hard
anyway if AIGE can run 3D then we can use AIGE

Well if we just turn the Scene to 3D, now that will be Hotel Dusk remake :D nah just joking

I'm too is finding 3D artist that can really free to do all the scene... well I hope...

anyway what adds in GS 3D is voice acting (of course you can turn it off and feel the classic game beep) and remixed music (as well as the old music)

AIGE runs 3D.

We can try.

I can work heavily on the missing 3D features as they are needed.

wait...
just for confirming, AIGE is using Phyton? yes?
Well then, it's decided we can use PWLib as for this game...
of course using 3D modified AIGE

AIGE is pure C++. It has a 2D and 3D core (I'm considering into unifying them in the future).

AIGE provides a language named AHLSL (that allows you to make objects and change their properties), and PWLib is fully written in it (so basically you can use PWLib and extend certain things).
So you can make a game with 3D background and 2D character in the front, for example.

Like I said, we can try. I have to finish PWLib 1.2 and Mikumo Extension, but I think I can use some time to make AIGE's 3D capabilities better over time.

Simple example of 3 3d Pyramids with basic light:

great that was neat
so basically I just use the PWLib and extend the AIGE to use 3D?
that worked

so now we need 3D artist
I'm only good at skinning and story making which is not much needed in this project
Wait... My friend is a little busy at the moment
which is I need someone who can do the programing too
although maybe I can start learn some PWLib

AIGE's 3D support is native.

If, for example, a new camera control is needed, you can tell me, I'll implement it and expose the AHLSL command.

OK. The harder part will be finding people to help, but there's always a chance.

Cool
The camera view I need is Free Roaming First Person camera for examine system, and maybe... for making character model shown like in Gyakuten Kenji (I mean like the phoenix and the conversation character can be seen)

I'll make the example tomorrow, of course not the finished 3D model, just how it looks like from the model I thinking...
