Title: The Bakeshop Turnabout
Project Head: Nekonohime
Current Contributors: Tap (Programming), PandaPrinzessin (Editing), PESSTAR (Editing)
Casemaker: PyWright

I've had this idea in my head for a very long time, so I decided, "Hey, why not try to make a game out of it?" So that's what I'm planning on doing. It's still in VERY early stages of development so please bear with me. Comments, suggestions and critique are welcomed and encouraged.

Updates
06/7/2010- Project Abandoned.
03/15/2010- Announcements and Help Wanted! (Musicians)
01/10/2010- Status updates.
01/07/2010- Added some new sprites and changed status updates. Also added custom musics.
01/05/2010- Updates to the plot and status updates.
01/04/2010- Updates on what I have/need, and a few other minor things.
01/03/2010- Statuses updated, added new character. Currently planning on redesigning Rosa Kitaki. I've also decided that the sprites and maybe everything else in the game will not follow the AA style, but instead in my own art style, due to the fact that I would rather make my own sprites rather than using the game sprites and editing them.
01/01/2010- Statuses updated.
01/01/2010- Contributors list updated.
12/31/2009- Thread created and game announced.

Here's the general plot so far:
While cleaning the house one day, Trucy, Phoenix and Apollo come across a storybook that Trucy made, so they decide to take a look at it.

It's 23 years in the future, and at this time, Apollo is a much more seasoned attorney with his own law office. However, he hasn't had a case in weeks, and he's desperate to get one, due to him being behind on his bills. However, he soon gets a call for a case and discovers that he has to defend one of his former clients, Wocky Kitaki, who is now the Kitaki family head and manager of the their pastry shop. Apparently he's been accused of murdering one of his employees, Patty Cake. With the help of his co-council Trucy, he must uncover the truth of this strange case.

So essentially, the prologue is in AA style, but as soon as you get to the actual case the art style changes to my art style to simulate the feel that you're in a storybook. I was trying to think of a way to incorporate the style change into the plot, and this was the best way.

Characters (So far):
Apollo Justice [defense attorney]
Trucy Wright [helper]
Wocky Kitaki [defendant]
Pearl Fey [Married to Wocky]
Rosa Kitaki [Original Character, Wocky daughter and witness]
Patty Cake [Original Character, victim]
Simon Walker [Original Character, detective]
William Kitaki [Original Character, Wocky's son]
Belle Montagne [Original Character, prosecutor]
Teddy Barr [Original Character, Patty's boyfriend and witness]

What I Have-

Scripting: I'm working on Day 1 at the moment. (17 pages written)
Spriting: Since I've decided to ditch the AA style and use my own, I will no longer need spriters. However you are still welcome to suggest how I should animate the sprites and give criticism on them.
Spoiler: Sprites I Have
By Me:
ImageImage Still working on other poses.

Image Just started this one; I've still got to animate this and make her other poses.

Image This was pretty hard to make; Looks pretty good but I still need to fix some of the lines.

ImageImageImageImage Some of the evidence I've drawn so far. There's tons more I gotta do, so stay tuned :)

Spoiler: Rosa Kitaki Full Body
ImageImage

What I Need-

Programming: I'm no good at programming, so I need some people to help me out with this. I would like to have this game on PyWright, since it seems to me it supports most of the functions that the real AA games use and I like how the games play and look on it.

Editing: Since I'm so early in the development of the script, I'll wait until the script is finished until I ask for one. However, if someone is already willing to take on this role I can send what I have so far and can give me some input/critique/pointers on what I should change/remove/etc.

Musicians: I need some people to help me make music for the game. I may use some tracks from the original games but I need themes for Rosa, Belle, Teddy, and Simon, which are the ones I need the most. If you would like to help, post here or send me a PM.

Status:
Script- Day 1: 17%, Day 2: 0%, Day 3: 0%
Spriting- 5%
Programming- 0%
Editing- 0%

Your fanfiction turned into a game. Awesome! I can help you with the programming as I know quite a bit about using Pywright as it was the engine I used for a month before I swapped to PWlib.

Patty Cake? Bwahaha, that really fits for someone working in a bakery.

I like the sound of this game. I'd be interested in helping with spriting and editing, as and when you need it :)

Sounds interesting! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

I know nothing about PyWright, but if you need help with spiriting and script editing, I wouldn't mind being of service c:

I like the idea of an older Apollo/Trucy tag team :3!
I can get you concept art for their older versions by tomorrow, if that's alright with you?

Haha, it's a nice feeling, innit? I hope this goes somewhere as well! For great justice!

Do you have another design for Rosa? Her clothes seem a little plain...

That's fine, just let me know when you decide.

As for Rosa's design, I have thought of given her different clothes, but I'm still thinking about it. I'll think of something, don't worry :)

I've sprited an older Trucy- let me know what you think. I haven't done all that much to age her, besides making her a bit curvier, changing her hair and frankenspriting Thalassa's mouth on (since they're mother and daughter, they'd probably resemble each other). I also recoloured her outfit to match her cloak brooch.

This actually looks quite good, Panda :)

It could work, since in this game Trucy is 38 years old. Maybe you could've made her taller, but this is good for now.

Haha! Patty Cake, what a great name! Maybe it shold be Pati Kake though - more Japanese sounding, if she's meant to be Japanese. The story sounds really interesting, and I like that it is so far in the future. Gives you a chance to be really creative with things.

I'm happy to help with the PyWright stuff if you need it.

Actually, it would be Pati Keeki. パティ ケーキ。 Cake in Japanese is Keeki.

Yes, that's true, but Patty isn't going to be Japanese. She's actually going to be American ;)

Rosa has a Japanese name though (Since she's Japanese-American... Well, I think so, anyway): 北木滝美 (Kitaki Takimi). I took the first character in Wocky's Japanese name (滝太, Takita) and the last character in Pearl's Japanese name (春美, Harumi) and combined them :)

...You're a pretty good artist. It would be ambitious, but you could just draw all the sprites, evidence, background, etc in your style for the game. (It would be a lot of work, but I think if you did it the end result would be very nice, and you wouldn't need to get the other sprites in AA style. Considering this is 40 years in the future, you'll need to redo every sprite anyway, so if you're willing to put in the work I don't think this is too bad of an idea.)

Thanks. You know, I never thought about doing the sprites in my art style. That sounds like a cool idea, but I would still need people to help me animate, because I'm not really good at it. Thanks for the suggestion. I think the game in my style would make it even more original :)

If you designed sprites in your art style for this game, then I think it would work really well. Ace Attorney games are meant to be visual novels, but the sprites don't really reflect that very well. I think with your art style for sprites, you could pull it off.

Hey, you know what? I'm gonna go with using my own style. I think I should make this game orignial, and going for a style different from the AA games would be kinda cool :)

But... It's gonna be hard for me to draw backgrounds, though... But I'll try this and see if it works out, because it sounds like an awesome idea :)

Looks like a neat idea to me. I'll check it out once there's more to see. Keep your work organized, don't lose the motivation too early and have fun with this - Making a game on your own is hard, but it's so much fun for anyone who's creative just like you :)

Well, since I've changed styles, then no, I'm going to let go of all my spriters. You can still do editing, though, because I'll definately need a few of them.

Announcement

Alright, It's been about 2 months since I've updated this. Just to let you know, this project is not dead. I've been so busy with other things that I never really got a chance to work on this much. It's still being worked on so it will take a while till I have a demo of sorts out.

Also...

If you scroll up to the first post I am now recruiting some people to make music for me, because I don't just want to use the same old music from the real games. If you're interested let me know and send some samples and such.

Thank you.

It's nice to hear you are still around. Sometimes the list of (seemingly) abandoned projects can be depressing :(

I wanted to say that I love that you are going with your own art style, and it looks refreshing. Very handdrawn like playing a sketchbook. Sometimes sticking to capcom's style with fangames feels a little samey and boring to me, so props there. Plus hopefully it means you'll be able to get the artwork completed faster, since it will be more suited to you.

That's exactly why I'm doing the graphics this way; I wanted to be different from anything anyone has ever played, and people like originality don't they? :)

The artwork would perhaps get done faster, but since I'm creating ALL the characters and backgrounds from scratch, it'll be a process.

Thanks for the comment, saluk :phoenix:

That's true - on the one hand creating new art is harder to do in Capcom style, but on the other hand you can recycle a lot of it. So it's a real tradeoff.

Good luck with the project, hopefully real life doesn't slow you down too much. Sometimes I wish I cold just pause real life so I can catch up on all I want to do hehe!

I'm sorry, but I've abandoned this project.

To any admins, please lock this thread. I have given up on this game and have no time to work on this anymore. I'm just going to make a fanfic of this plot.
