While that may be true, some of those images could be red herrings to trick us into thinking that way, and then they'll hit us with another surprise. I'm not sure if they've done it before, but it is a clever thing to do.

In 1-5 Gumshoe mentions how Edgeworth isn't very well liked. (That's why he had been kicked out of the investigation) In my mind that would mean that there would probably be a lot of people ho consider themselves Edgeworth's rival. So Makato and Rou being called Edgeworth's rival probably means very little in the big picture.

I guess that would all depend on your opinion of Payne in general. He is a necessary part of the first four games for at least the first cases. He's not really mentioned outside of those cases, but I don't think that makes him insignificant per se.

On the other hand, I don't think the lack of Franziska necessarily means her role is unimportant. It would be weird if the Kenji cover was almost entirely people you already know. New faces make people curious.

I really did like the first game's cover art; I don't know why they switched to the four boxes style after wards. I still remotely like it though...even if the cover for Trials and Tribulations had an error on it.

I guess it depends on how effective and well-done the obvious
comparison is. It could be really well done and then there's really no problem with it.I think Rou's just going to be very similar to
but perhaps with some subtle, but distinctive, differences. I dunno. I just like that (it seems) they're actually trying to make a rival worthy of Worthy instead of... um... *points upward*(Wow. I have to submit it again just because people ninja'd me?)

Anyway, I always figured Makoto was just another Wellington/Sawhit/etc.. I still can't help but think that there's a reason this guy looks like Xin Eohp. It'll have to be brought up at some point, and I guess this is the whole "small mention" or whatever they called it, of Phoenix in-game. Where he won't appear but they admitted there'll be some very tiny mention of his existence.

MMM... Why tigre? Are you talking about Shiryuu or about Makoto? If it is because of Shiryuu I don`t have a clear answer to that, I`m as intrigued as you are. If it is about Makoto: WTF!!!???
Well that`s everything I had to say... I guess.
And about the whole deal of the boxes I agree... It was kinda cheap. However we`ve all seen that Capcom always comes up with more box designs. At least that was what happenned in the first game. Why it`s so unlikely to happen in this game too? I don`t see any reason to distrust that possibility.

I'm not surprised this turned out to be official. Though I don't know how that website "announced" the cover before Capcom. Anyway, I'm still waiting a website-official cover, just for the sake of officialness (and cleanness) and to update the Wikipedia page yet again (I added the whole "Plot" section and all "Gameplay" Phases). So, Capcom, you announced the cover, why not updating the official site with it?
EDIT: Just noticed this when I was looking for the announcement in the Developing Blog.

Rou's the new main rival and he's a detective who hates prosecutors. And has a scantily-clad assistant, Sheena.
I actually really like firexxxsaber's idea for the cover.
Though I prefer the four boxes style better than the cover of the first game...

Kinda like Gumshoe, in a sense. He's not on any cover, and yet he's always there from AA1-3.
