Now before I have the crazy Edgeworth fans jumping all over me please hear me out! This game is being done by a different director correct? You don't know what to expect. Also the fact that there is no court cases really makes me upset. I understand it would be really hard to do the scenes from the other side of the witness stand but I just don't know if I could see myself playing a "Gyakuten" game with no court scenes. I vaguely understand this "confrontation" phase but won't it just be similar to unlocking psylockes? Staring someone down but no real enemy besides them? Maybe I'm being overly skeptical. I'm not hoping for a failure by any means. I reserved all AA games before this and I will this one as well but I'm making sure to keep my expectations in check.
Currently trying to go beyond the time.

A lot of people feel the same way you do.

We don't know how it's going to be. It could be the worst game in the history of gaming, or better than the other 4 Gyakuten games combined. We're not saying it's going to be the worst game, or the most amazing game.

Just wait and see ;)

I'm not skeptical at all.

But of course I AM gonna love Perfect Prosecutor because I am a biased fangirl.

I'm gonna miss the court room scenes though. No Judge ='^(

*agrees with Looby*

I'm not skeptical in the least, I think this is going to be a fantastic game, different director and all.

And remember, when they first announced the project, it was called "New Gyakuten, Not Saiban." (Meaning, New Turnabout, Not Courtroom.) So, I wasn't really disappointed when they said there would be no court scenes.

Seeing the new information, I'm even more psyched for this game, and May 28th can't get here fast enough for me. ^_^

I'm not gonna lie, the main reason I want this game is Edgeworth. I guess I haven't had a skeptical thought about the game because, as my husband and I discussed earlier, we can't really think of any terrible Capcom games. There might be some bad ones in certain series', but nothing that his so horrible that people universally pan it (think of most games released recently by Square-Enix that are not Final Fantasy [insert number here]). But that's just our opinion.

I really hope that this game turns out to be great because I'm sure we will all be horribly dissapointed if it does not.

I have not played those games, so I wasn't aware of that. In general, and in my opinion, compared other huge game companies, Capcom seems to have fewer failures.

DMC2 was a total failure. I can think of a few Capcom games I've been really disappointed with... >.>

However, they've already said that the Confrontation phase is going to be almost exactly like the Cross Examinations (pressing, presenting, the whole shabang) so we reallllllllllly don't need thread after thread of "GASP NO COURT!" This has been news for a while now.

I'm actually really looking forward to this - not because Edgeworth and Gumshoe happen to be my favorite characters, but because I really like that there won't be any real court scenes. I must be the only person alive to prefer the investigation phase. So yay, Gyakuten Kenji!

I prefer Investigation too. I think we're all alone in that, though.

I've been skeptical about it from the start, but we should still hope. If you're excited for it, then if it turns out good, it's great! If you're excited for it, and it turns out crap, there's still GS5! If you're not excited for it and it's good, well it's not as great playing it. I also prefer the Investigation phases - especially with Psyche locks.

Don't worry about lack of court scenes though. There was a demo/trial version of GK posted, and there's a questioning phase that's pretty much identical to cross-examining. (It's actually where I got stuck and lost/had to stop :sadshoe:)

I'm a little worried about the characterization of Edgeworth, really. I mean, they have new writers, right? I played through the demo with the English translation, and I don't know, but something feels a bit... off witth his characterization. Now that could be just because the localization team changes some lines when they translate and don't do a direct translation (or not, I really don't know how it works...), or it could be because the new characters translated it differently.

They'll probably do fine with it, but I still can't help but worry.

I think there wasn't as much as his "scathing sarcasm" as Gumshoe would put it.

Not at all. I'm enjoying the absence of courtroom scenes. It's supposed to be a SPIN-OFF, people. Plus, you will still be able to cross-examine witnesses outside court.

The only thing I like about court battles is that when the prosecution gets an idea of the supposed "truth" the defense objects and the objection or cornered theme starts up and they present evidence to shut them up.

The MOST EPIC Objection moment for me is when Phoenix is OWNING Redd White and Edgeworth objects, the cornered theme plays and he tell Redd to admit his crime of the tape recorder to get rid of Phoenix's ideas.

Also, I was a little down when court battles weren't going to be used in this game, but... OBJECTION! is still going to be heard! Also... Will they change the OBJECTION! for each character or will they use the old ones? Also, will Gumshoe get an OBJECTION!, he used it with Larry in T&T.

Yeah quite honestly the courtroom scenes were my least favorite parts in the original games. I'm all for investigations (which is why I ate up Hotel Dusk)

So this game already is an improvement for me.... but playing the demo it's still VERY similar, and you still confront people and cross examine them

Haha, could be. XD

But really, we've only seen a tiny part of the first case. Edgeworth could get more sarcastic as the case goes on. ^_^

Also, remember, with characterization: right now, we're working from a literal and fast translation of the demo. Humor tends to get lost with that sort of thing -- good localizers will put the wit back in in the new language.

(This is not in the slightest meant to knock Croik's translation -- it's just a fact of working with literal translations.)

But I thought it was awesome, honestly. I hadn't been expecting much from GK -- now I'm very excited (and kicking myself again for not buckling down and learning Japanese).

I'm not skeptical at all. I just really want to play the game. I've lost excitement lately, but I played the demo again and, even if I didn't understand it, I felt like I loved the Phoenix Wright series again.

And yeah, the translation is more literal -- once it's localized when it comes to America, Miles Edgeworth should be his good ol' ...Edgey..self.

I love the battle of objections, contraditions and desk slams, but i also enjoy the investigations, psychlockes and logic connections.
I dont think you could replace either one with the other...
But this is a spinoff so I'm not spectical about anything.
I also dont think the characterization is off, i think its just the litral translation that might make it seem off if some think it is but I believe by the time it reaches our shores, they will fix it and add more joke. (hopefully with more of our narrow minded cultural assumptions). :godot:
p.s and not to mention for the Edgeworth content as well! :jazzedgy:

I'm... mixed about this. I wasn't that WOWED by the demo, so... I don't know. What I'm scared of is GK getting insanely popular, and instead of continuing with Ace Attorney, they continue with GK-like games with no court scenes. Seriously, that is a scary thought.

I'm worried too. I still want the style of the old Phoenix Wright games for the GS series. Stationary and everything.

I want them to keep GK and GS seperate series. Each with their own style. :)

See, I think the run-around style for investigation phases would be cool to see in GS5. I thought most of the DS-specific features in AJ were lame -- the best one they've done so far is the video sequence in Rise From The Ashes, IMHO, and I was really disappointed we didn't get to point things out in the video in 4-3. But being able to run around and maybe move things and do the crime scene recreation in the in-game engine? Nifty.

I think the biggest threat to the quality of the game is...fanservice.

No, really!

If the writers aren't careful, this game may end up as pure, shameless and shallow cash-in that the Edgeworth fangirls will lap up, regardless of quality.

That's the worst case scenario, however. It seems genuine effort is being made to the game.

for some reason, I've been wanting a game where you walk around freelance and search for things. (Much like the first Megaman battle network games) but with no "random encounter battle" stuff, just an honest to good 3rd perspective point and click adventure.

and for the fan-base, I want this game for Franziska.

I don't mind that.

From the demo I'm actually more excited because I like this new system it has going on. And the new characters look amazing :edgy:

Haha!

I just realised the other day actually, if it was in the normal style, then we wouldn't see Edgey at all .... and that would be criminal.

So many times playing PW I wanted to see Nick's reaction to what people were saying, rather than just being in his thoughts.
