If she has a big role, I'm going to guess it's throughout the whole game. Since when has the second case been that important? I think Lamiroir was in the second case of AJ, and she had a big role, but it was a big role throughout the whole game (even if she wasn't there much...) So, I think that even if Franzy is only in the second case, they'll still probably mention her a lot throughout the game.

I don't think that they would hazard to call her a major character if she wasn't part of the rising action or the climax. I, for one, would be quite rabid if they cheaped out and only put her in the second case. But, thankfully, Franziska wouldn't seem to have much reason to show up for the second case and then disappear once the case is over

Judging from the past series, you usually get the most development and information about the characters when they are personally involved in the case... Developers mentioned in TGS that she's going to take on a major role but, if she's not going to be a suspect {hopefully not a victim or the real murderer } and Edgeworth have more than enough assistants already. A rival may seem like a major character but... rival characters get very little character developments if they are not involved in a case... {That would be like JFA all over again... hopefully it doesn't resort to that }
Capcom... I really wonder how you are going to pull this one out...

I don't think you'll have to worry about that. This game is supposed to take place around T&T, in which Franziska appears in the last case. One of the screenshots from a promo article (the one in the "Is that Sal Manella?" topic, if you're curious) reads "Mei, you've returned from America." Therefore, her appearance in GK takes place AFTER she gets back on the plane at the end of JFA, but BEFORE her return in T&T, in which Edgeworth already knows that Franziska is back from Europe. In that case, she can't be dead and she can't be in prison.

I don't understand. How do we know that it takes place after T&T? The only clue I've seen is that Gumshoe's age is the same as in T&T, but that could mean that it takes place after T&T too, and we don't know when Gumshoe's birthday is, do we?
In T&T, Edgeworth was the one who called her back, so of course he knew she was back then. But she was only in America (Japan) to help Edgeworth and Phoenix, and then she probably returned to Europe (America). How do we know it doesn't take place a little while after T&T, and she had to return again for something?
I've seen all the screen shots. I just fail to see how that one tells us the timeline. The timeline has not been confirmed yet.
And no, I'm not saying that Franziska is the murderer or the victim, I'm just saying that I don't think we can base the timeline on that one screenshot.

From the Gyakuten Kenji FAQ thread:
Q. When does the game take place?
A. The dev team has said "around T&T." Gumshoe's age as listed in the demo is the same as his age in T&T, but they haven't come out and said if it was before or after 3-5.

Franzy in GK makes me so happy. She's my favorite character in the whole series and I didn't think she got enough character development so far in the games we have. She needs, at least, her own theme music. I don't care where she fits into the story, I'm just glad that they brought her back. It'd be nice if they gave her some new sprites (a new outfit maybe?)

She is my favorite character and thinking this... when is the storyline placed before, or after GS1 and 2 cause... Miles and Franny don`t see each other for a long time and if they saw each other, how many years ago...
Well I suppose they met before GS1 so... that the story fits with the actual idea but one of my main questions is: Will the storyline reach GS1 or to be more exact the meeting between Phoenix and Miles??

About Franziska's role...
In the game, not only are you not playing court cases-- Edgeworth isn't playing court cases. Maybe Edgey and Franziska are in a team, Edgey's doing the investigating while Franziska's doing the court cases.
Since we're missing a mentor. You could go to Franziska and be all "hmm, maybe, I should run this over with Franziska to see what she might think of this." Or the "What to do" at random times in the Prosecuters Office.
Or she could be a part of logic mode. "I know! It's John Doe!" -WHIP- "Only a foolhardy foolish fool would come to such a foolishly foolish conclusion!" "I guess that means I'm wrong..." (PENALTY)

Franziska and Edgeworth were raised together, and they have a very sibling-like bond. Franziska doesn't 'call' Edgeworth her younger brother 'or something like that'; she feels that he is her younger brother. She doesn't view him as an equal but as someone inferior, and at the same time someone superior who she must strip of their superiority. IIRC the sibling angle has already been discussed, at least once, in this topic, and both facets of their relationship were plainly stated, more than once, in the games themselves.
