This actually reminds me of a show I watched once where a character mixed up all their sports metaphors (I think it was Saved By The Bell). Anyway, one of the character's said they were going to "kick them at the court," but they were going to play soccer or football.
Makoto: Hey Edge-dude, wanna go shoots some goals at the basketball field? (gives two thumbs up).
Edgeworth: (sighs) Oh Mako-chan, even I know that you just mixed up basketball with soccer.
Makoto: (flashes his smile and tosses a football) Edge-dude don't be silly. I think I can tell the difference between soccer and basketball (points at the football). Or maybe you want to play a little game of tennis?
Edgeworth: (checks his watch and walks away). Okay, let me just get my racket and I'll meet you at the club.
Makoto: Silly Edge-dude, I said we're playing tennis, not golf.

Actually...You know how, in cartoons, some character fails hard at skiing and they tumble down the moutain and become a huge snowball? I just imagined that happening to poor Gumshoe.
Better yet, it happens to all three of them, and they made a snowman. A snowman of justice.
