I want it to be her now While that would be amazing, I'm dead-set on KeyGirl being some sort of magical assistant, so I'm not sure. I think her being a DA would only work if she was somewhat mature.
Besides, she looks a bit too young to be a lawyer in PW-Canon. (Unless she's from 'Germerica' like Franny, but I doubt it, considering her design and clothing choice - the boots are of a traditional Japanese style, I think.)
Granted, that's only looking at her from an extremely superficial standpoint; I mean, we don't even know her name yet.

The only thing I don't like about the theory that she's an assisstant is that it takes place before and after T&T, but we don't hear about her at all during T&T. Although Capcom probably could figure something out, but =/

Even if there's no court phase, we will probably meet the defense attorney. In every single AA game we've met the opposing attorney outside of court, so I don't see why it would be different this time around.
Although if you want to get iffy, we never met Edgeworth outside of court in the original GS1 ('cause when we did he was the defendant) but that was the first game! So that was the longest ago, and this trend of meeting the opposing side has been completely recent!

Your argument makes sense (Hurray for Germerica! :) ), but... I dunno. She just doesn't feel like a lawyer, prosecution or defense.
But once again, we know barely anything about her. All we can say about KeyGirl is that she has strange clothes, and she'll definitely be in Gyakuten Kenji. We don't have any sprites or anything of her - just official art of a single, neutral pose. She could very well be the DA, but she could also be a victim for all we know (far less likely, and I really hope not, as I've taken a liking to her design :P).

In the profile screenshots you see a young blonde boy in a blue outfit and glasses. And I hope that Kristoph will defend.
I don't think they meant it litterally when they said "Not Saiban" I just think that was there to make it different from the other GS games. Most people's favorite part is the courtroom. I don't think Capcom would take that.

for Hammond, I guess that would be explanitory... Perhaps he'd face against Grossberg... That's the only explanation I can think of since Kristoph was called the "Best Defense Attorney in Town" in AJ, so I doubt he would've KEPT LOSING against Edgeworth... *shrugs*
